The engagement ceremony between the Gu and Su family was magnificent and elegant with the theme of vintage fairytale garden themes that have been on the trend lately.
Everyone was standing in groups of twos and threes, conversing about various common topics with each other.
Zheng Roufeng showed his invitation card at the guard who looked at it before he scanned it with his phone and asked, "Are you Mr Zheng Roufeng and his companion?"
"Yes."
"Please enter."
Jason didn't say anything and as soon as they entered the venue which was a garden, a refreshing fragrance wafted over their faces.
The people who came to this engagement ceremony were all the top echelons in the country.
There were around a dozen ultra-rich and prestigious families in Country M where both the Gu and Su family, which were the host of today's event, are a part of.
The moment Zheng Roufeng walked into the venue, he immediately became the center attention of the people there not only because of his identity that didn't belong to any of the prominent family but also because of the man beside him.
Already used to seeing such gazes, Jason remained silent beside Zheng Roufeng while still holding each other's hands tightly.
"CEO Zheng, it really is a pleasure that you manage to come here today. Who is this young man beside you? Is he perhaps your lover? He is indeed good looking," unexpectedly the first one to greet them was Gu Xihuai who was smiling like a sneaky oil merchant.
Beside Gu Xihuai stood an elegant mature woman wearing a plain dark blue dress with appropriate jewelries which even those with no knowledge would know they were expensive at a glance.
The woman's face had a light soft smile but she didn't seem to bother to say anything and only stood there like a pretty doll, seemingly not caring about anything.
She is Zhang Arin, Gu Xihuai's legal wife and the mother of Gu Xin.
Zheng Roufeng glanced towards the woman and greeted, "It's been a while since I last saw Madam Zhang. You're as beautiful as ever. It's also been a while since I saw you Mr Gu. This is my legal husband. This is his first time attending this kind of banquet."
Zhang Arin nodded her head slightly and said, "Thank you. Both you and your husband are also good looking and well matched."
Gu Xihuai felt a bit awkward but he didn't show it on his face, "Oh it's the rumored husband of CEO Zheng. No wonder Mr Zheng is so loyal if he has such a good looking husband waiting for him at home everyday."
For some reason, Gu Xihuai seems to purposely say irritating things towards them since the beginning.
None of the other guests said anything or tried to help the two husbands since they prefer to just enjoy the drama.
Amidst the awkward interaction, fortunately there was someone with common sense interrupting them, "Hey newlyweds, how is your vacation? Having fun?"
He Lang came towards them with both his parents and sister.
"There's suddenly an avalanche happening so it wasn't that fun," Zheng Roufeng replied lightly.
"Should I ask dad to give us a private island instead of an icy mountain range? There won't be a sudden tsunami devouring the whole island right?" Jason suggested.
He Lang couldn't help but feel his eyes twitch a bit, "Hey hey tone it down Jason. What next are you going to give your husband? A moon?"
"A literal moon?" Jason acted confused but he knew it was impossible to give a real moon. A moon rock might be possible.
Zheng Roufeng who could understand what Jason was thinking couldn't help but chuckled, "It's fine. You can save your money for our kids."
He Lang showed a disgusted face while his sister seemed to blush seeing their interaction, "You guys really matched each other. Jason, can I ask for your signature later? I'm your fan. You're more good looking in real life. I approved this relationship. Nobody is more worthy to be with you other than CEO Zheng. I, as a sister fan, approved this 200%."
Seeing a sudden fan giving her blessing, Jason could only smile helplessly, "Thank you sister for the blessing. I thought nobody would recognize me when I dressed up and changed my hair color."
Jason rarely dressed up formally and he also dyed his originally black hair to silver blond hair and used a grey color contact lense which highlighted his western facial features more, making him look like a fully western guy instead of a mixed race.
"Even if you dress like a beggar, I will still recognize you," He Lin admitted proudly.
"Eww, stalker fan," He Lang teased.
"Shh, you don't understand," He Lin retorted.
Their parents and the He couple already used to see the siblings arguing with each other back and forth thus they didn't bother with them and instead conversed with Zheng Roufeng instead.
"It's been a while, Roufeng. When will you invite auntie and uncle to your wedding? You can't prioritize your work above your partner. Work will never end until you die but your partner is a human that needs attention and care, " Mrs Su, He Lang's mother said.
Mr He also agreed with what his wife said, "It's true. When you guys have kids later, you also need to pay attention to them and not just let the kids be raised by the nanny."
"Thank you for the advice auntie, uncle. I will definitely invite you to our wedding. All the wedding preparations will be prepared by my husband's family and I will follow their arrangements, right darling."
Jason nodded slightly, "Roufeng is busy so this kind of thing better be left to me to handle."
"It's good that you guys understand and can rely on each other. I heard you're Roufeng's childhood friend. You can also call us auntie and uncle just like Roufeng did," Mrs Su said amicably. She always likes good looking and polite young people the most.
Gu Xihuai on the other hand felt left out although he was the one who started to greet Zheng Roufeng. His situation didn't become better when his wife just remained silent beside him, not saying anything.
On the other side, the daughter of the Su family, Su Ran is dressed in a beige high-waisted dress with delicate makeup on her fair face, making her look more ethereal and elegant. Gu JinYang was standing by her side, wearing a three piece black suit with a beige colored bow tie to match his fiancé.
"I want to thank everyone who attended my eldest son's and future daughter in law's engagement ceremony today. Let's make a toast to bless the young couple," Gu Xinhai announced.
"Oh my, sister Ran is really beautiful," He Lin was amazed.
Su Ran, Gu JinYang's fiancé could be said to be He Lang's second cousin (the cousin of your cousin).
Most of the prominent families here have ties to each other especially marriage ties thus their families would be related to one another in one way or another.
"Hey, why are you guys all gathered here?" A voice suddenly greeted their group.
"Qi Cheng gege, it's been awhile since I last saw you," He Lin exclaimed.
"Our He Lin became prettier every time I saw her," Qi Cheng also wasn't stingy with praise.
"You need to go check your eyes if that is really what you see," He Lang said jokingly.
"What a way to ruin someone's mood," He Lin grumbled.
Walking along with Qi Cheng was Gu Junling who didn't expect to see Zheng Roufeng and Jason there.
"Jason, never thought to see you here," Gu Junling said.
"Zheng Roufeng was invited so I decided to come along," Jason answered nonchalantly.
Qi Cheng couldn't help but sneered, "So it must be your first time being in such a banquet right. Don't feel nervous and just enjoy your time here. Feel free to eat and drinks."
Jason: Why do I feel the sudden urge to punch this guy's face? My dad owns this place so what food can't I eat here?
"Sure," Jason didn't say much.
He Lang noticed the subtlety and decided to change the subject, "Hey Jason, did Adam ask for your help lately?"
He Lang already knew Jason's background from Zheng Roufeng but even before that his instinct always told him not to look down on Jason and he was right.
What kind of man could make someone like Zheng Roufeng so infatuated? Obviously a man like Jason who both have the luck to be Zheng Roufeng's childhood friend and also the solid background and personality not to be shaken by anyone.
Jason just shrugged his shoulders, "He didn't. It seems he already managed to get my sister's phone number so my help isn't needed anymore."
Zheng Roufeng became interested in the conversation, "Does Jess really liked Adam though?"
"Seems like it. If not, she would probably have already punched him."
"So your sister is with brother Adam huh? Oh my god, another beautiful couple that I approved of," He Lin acted like a fanatic wing man.
"Gosh, you only like it when both of them are good looking and you will curse if one of them is not up to standard or ugly," He Lang commented.
"So don't be ugly," He Lin defended her action.
While the ceremony was ongoing and the guests were interacting with each other, suddenly there was a commotion coming from the entrance.
"Sorry sir. You can't come inside right now," the guard said politely to a bulky tall man in normal clothing.
The man seemed to be showing him his ID while saying, "This is urgent so please cooperate with us the police. I don't care even if this is the prime minister's wedding ceremony. Let us in and apprehend the suspect."
"What's wrong? What's happening here?" It was Gu Xin who faced the police before Gu Xinhai and his wife Qi Yulin arrived at the scene.
"Please cooperate with us. We already have a warrant to apprehend the suspect."
Gu Xinhai felt uncomfortable, "Isn't it wrong to barge into a private ceremony and what is the security doing, letting this guy inside? Call the manager now."
He initially wanted the ceremony to be held in one of the Gu family hotels but the Su family adamantly wanted it to be held here and now looked at what happened.
The hotel manager immediately went to the venue and saw a few police officers not backing off while the customers and guests looked obviously uncomfortable and worried.
"Sir, what is the matter here?" The manager asked politely since according to the hotel policy, they need to cooperate with the police most of the time except for a few exceptions but today there was no exception.
"We got a tip and need to apprehend the suspect here. We will definitely go after we take the suspect away," the inspector said for the nth time.
The manager could feel his forehead sweat and while he was thinking of a solution that would satisfy everyone, he saw someone among the crowd that had higher authority than him.
"Please wait, let me ask my young master first."
"Hey where are you going?" Gu Xinhai wanted to drag the manager but had to stop when he saw his wife was glaring at him.
Jason's group who had no intention in getting involved suddenly became nervous when they saw the manager coming towards them.
"Hey, why is the manager coming here?" Qi Cheng couldn't help but ask.
"Don't know? Maybe the suspect the police want is you so that's why he's coming here," He Lang said playfully.
But for some reason, Qi Cheng's heart beat even faster and he could feel his palms become wet with cold sweat.
Everyone was nervous until the manager stood in front of a young man and said, "Young master, please decide."
Jason could feel all eyes were on him, but he replied calmly, "Just give whatever the police want. They only wanted one person. Drag that person out and resume the ceremony."
"We will follow as you wish."
"I will not report to my dad about this so do a good job."
"Yes, thank you young master."
Following what Jason said, the guards made way for the police who immediately went towards Jason's group which made them even more nervous than before.
The police officer who looked like the leader bowed slightly towards Jason and said, "Thank you for cooperating with us."
"I'm just a normal law abiding citizen so isn't it normal to help the law enforcer. Just be quick and go."
None of them dare to say anything and only Jason and Zheng Roufeng looked unperturbed.
The police turned around and said, "Mr Gu Xihuai, you're suspected to have committed an arson which resulted in one person dying. On top of that, there's also allegations of you embezzling the company's fund and committing money laundering. We have a warrant to apprehend you and put you behind bars for interrogation. Please cooperate."
Everyone was shocked when they heard the series of allegations including Gu Xihuai himself, "No, you get the wrong person. I never commit all those things!"
"That's why we will run an investigation regarding this and we require your cooperation," the police are still patiently trying to be civil with him.
"No!" Gu Xihuai pushed away his wife and wanted to run away just for somebody to suddenly hold his arm and twist them, making him kneeled on the ground, groaning in pain.
Zheng Roufeng didn't say anything and just quietly held Gu Xihuai down while Jason immediately urged the guards to drag Gu Xihuai away, "Drag him out and make sure this doesn't spread outside."
"No! Please! Someone is trying to frame me!"
Within minutes, the police were all gone, leaving behind the still dumbfounded guests. Jason was also nowhere to be seen since he went to delete all the CCTV recording of Gu Xihuai being apprehended.
He did this under the request of old man Gu Feng who almost got a heart attack and was currently being carried into an ambulance that just arrived.
"Wow, what a mess," He Lang commented before continuing, "Fortunately it happened here and Jason could help cover it up."
Qi Cheng already walked away to his family who seemed dissatisfied with what had happened.
"Jason looked so cool just now. He didn't look nervous at all when talking to the police. I already feel my legs turned into jelly," He Lin sighed.
In order to calm and compensate the guests for the disturbance, Jason stepped up and let them drink a few bottles of expensive wines and let them have free rooms for the night at the hotel.
"Hey, Roufeng, don't tell me you also don't know that Jason owned this hotel?" He Lang teased.
"No, this hotel is owned by my father in-law. Jason only inspects them once in a while when he's not busy," Zheng Roufeng answered as if it was nothing.
Glancing towards a corner of the banquet, Zheng Roufeng could see Zhang Aiming lifting his glass towards him as if giving him a toast.
After the situation calmed down, Zhang Aiming came towards Zheng Roufeng.
Zhang Arin and Gu Xin were standing with him along with Qi Yuran and Lucas.
"Like the drama you see?" Zheng Roufeng asked.
Zhang Aiming nodded, "Yes, I enjoy seeing the Gu family's distorted and embarrassed face. Do you enjoy it sister?"
"Sigh, it's fine. I don't really feel anything," Zhang Arin said flatly.
For some reason, her attention seemed to be following the silver blonde haired young man in front of her that made her remember someone she once knew.
During this time, Jason seems to have already finished his job and went to Zheng Roufeng's side.
Lucas, who recognized Jason, waved his tiny hands towards him.
Jason smiled, "Hey Lucas. It's been a long time since I last saw you and you seem to have grown taller. Before, you're around here and now you're here, look."
Jason pointed out that Lucas had grown taller than slightly above Jason's waist.
"Do you like kids Jason?" Qi Yuran asked.
"Depends. If the kids acted like little demons, I most probably would not like them but Lucas is so cute. Call me brother Jason."
"......."
"Ok it's fine," Jason didn't mind him.
"He's a shy boy," Qi Yuran said.
Unexpectedly, Lucas suddenly said in almost inaudible voice, "Brother Jay."
"Brother Jay is also a good nickname," Jason complimented.
