At first there was just darkness, but soon the view of a forest opened up, a different forest. The landing would also be into a lake instead of a river, in the distance Kevin was able to see some houses with lights on despite the darkness. Desperately he searched for the reason he jumped and there it was.

Psyra the Ralts was feeling something other than fear at this moment, shock. A human boy? At least she thought it was a boy had just... APPEARED, and had feelings of fear and terror emanating from... him? The same feelings those Mightyena were giving off as they chased her. They were barking something but all she could understand were emotions right now.

Well, she knew a little human but definitely not this desperate, fearful barking. So, she ran. She used her psychic powers to manipulate her body as fast as possible, using Teleport whenever possible. However, they kept coming. Why were they chasing her, why were they so afraid? Still, the shock didn't distract her from the fear for long. She had realized that she was falling, and also that she was out of energy to use Teleport anymore. She braced herself for the impact and closed off most senses. This unlucky human was also going to fall with her, and humans, they were a lot more... fragile than she was. That was saying something because her kind were EXCEPTIONALLY fragile.

What surprised her was the feeling of warmth that enveloped her, but then came the crash and the cold. The human's feelings had changed, and soon they surfaced. It wasn't fear anymore, the only emotion was relief. The human was silent as they swam with her to shore. It seemed the human was quite adept in the water, did humans have types as well? Was this a water type human?

"Fuck." This was a word she knew, somewhat at least. It was usually used to express great discontentment. Strange, this human only had overwhelming emotions of relief right now, why did they use that word? "You're alright." The human worried for her, but why did it say that word? Either way, the voice was pleasant and soft.

Then there was howling from the cliff, and the Mightyena shared the same feelings as the human. However, they still had a strong place for fear. Tears came out of her helmet as she realized what a fool she was. They were afraid of something happening to her.  She realized that they weren't chasing after her as punishment because she was playing with that one Poochyena, they saw one of their own accept her and so did the rest of the pack.

Although occasionally vicious, Mightyena were actually exceptionally friendly Pokémon that would adopt orphans of a different kind, similar to Kangaskhan they had a strong parental instinct. Well, most canine Pokémon did, but this fact was unknown to Kevin who had just started to feel fear as he noticed the Mightyena started to JUMP off of the cliff into the lake, save a few which were pushed over. Why were they coming after them? What could he do? There were at least FIVE Mightyena in this pack with at least THREE times as many Poochyena. Kevin didn't think this through at all, but they were already making splashes in the water. Should he grab the Ralts and run? That likely wouldn't work.

"So beautiful." Kevin murmured. Then he stood up with the Ralts in hand and decided to try and WALK away, perhaps these Mightyena were just taking a nice little swim? He didn't get further than a couple of meters before a growl interrupted his thoughts. He turned around to see them all coming out of the water. They shook their dazzling fur and stared at Kevin. First came more intense growling, and then the ears started to turn flat.

Psyra understood it now as well, it was a misunderstanding. It was all a misunderstanding and now the Mightyena were going to attack this human! The human stood up and spoke with a voice completely unlike earlier. The voice he spoke to her with was gentle and gave her the sense that everything was at peace. It was the same tone her parents would hum to her in or speak to her in, and she found it deeply comforting.

This tone the human was now speaking in, however? It was so harsh and cold it scared her. Contained within was a chilly passion, dripping with disdain. Despite how quiet the words were said they came out clearly, as if commanding they be heard above all else to the Pokémon around him. What was even more ridiculous were the human's emotions. The emotions and actions didn't match! The human was terrified, probably more terrified than she ever was! Well, except for that day.

"Do you even know who I am? I am Kevin Kronos. Listen here you little shits, I have collected over eighty different badges from different regions in my games. The Champion of every region in them too. I know your lot. I know your level up moves, weaknesses, tactics, dex entries, hah. Ninety base attack is your highest stat, you know what has a higher attack? A fucking Trapinch, a baby has higher attack than you fully evolved mongrels. Now step the fuck off because I'm also part fighting type, I will break your bricks you little shits. Better yet you have such pitiful sixty special defense I bet my words are doing enough damage so if you don't back down, I will scream really loudly and totally not because I'm utterly terrified. This Ralts is under my protection. Me, Kevin Kronos, future Pokémon Master. I mean, current Pokémon Master."

The human stepped forward, and much to everyone's confusion he then started to... scratch the Mightyena behind the ears? The growling slowly stopped and then it seemed the human finally understood what he did. There was complete silence as they stopped and stared at each other.

The human still felt fear, even more so, although Psyra supposed this human had introduced... himself as Kevin. Psyra was still a little confused, it was like the face was what she understood to be a human female, but the chest didn't match up. This bugged her for some reason, she didn't like feeling even the slightest bit unsure about anything! She didn't understand much of the speech, something about badges, regions, a champion, a Trapinch,  and breaking bricks. All she REALLY understood was that this human was apparently a fighting type and that she was under his protection. 'Protect' 'Protection'. 'Safe'.  Did this mean she was h-his Pokémon? Why was her heart beating so fast? Why was she so nervous? There was no ball involved yet, she wasn't caught. She was scandalized!

Psyra calmed herself down and let out a happy chirp as she released herself from his clutches. A familiar Poochyena stepped out from the pack, noticing her and it didn't take long for them to play like they did before.

Kevin let out a deep sigh as more Mightyena leaned in for various forms of affection with various Poochyena joining the play time together. Internally he was extremely grateful for Sam's dog teaching him all the canine sweet spots. Or at least some of them. Normally in the case of wild wolves, that would have been a guaranteed death sentence, or possibly got them to run if he was lucky.

However, his line of the Ralts being under his protection alongside the ear scratching had somehow gained the trust of the Mightyena. They also seemed to develop the impression that he was quite the skilled trainer, they didn't understand much but they did know 'badges' were a big deal to some humans and their Pokémon!

"Cannonball!"

"AAAGGGHHH!"

"I'm coming Kevin!"

SPLASH! Splash!  Splash!

This was the second loudest noise that the forest had ever known, and it had awoken the King. In the distance there was a loud roar, a familiar sound to the forest to be sure and definitively the loudest it had known to this point. The Mightyena started to whimper, the King was coming to deliver judgement after being rudely awakened. It didn't take long for the three to reach shore and be greeted by a surprising sight. Kevin stood there as the lone human in a group of obviously scared Pokémon. Then they noticed trees crashing, he turned to them and then to the noise.

Psyra barely registered the different emotions around her, except for one. A single emotion that was so overwhelmingly afraid it would drown everything out. Kevin's. She knew exactly what he was afraid of, and he had every reason to be. It was all over for them now, just like it was for her parents.

"RUN! The other way than me!" Kevin screamed as he RAN TOWARDS the source of his fear. She felt it overwhelmingly. Such strong fear it threatened to drown everything out. However, she couldn't see it, in his eyes, in his face, or in his voice.

The trio of newcomers simply stood in shock, unable to process what he had just said or why until they saw what was coming. All of the canines laid low, bowing to their King. Some Mightyena quickly and forcefully pulled them down to the ground. All they could do was watch as the King came into view.

He was much larger than his own kind would normally get, he was an Alpha with a scarred eye and various other wounds. His purple tail thrashed against the ground, raising rocks as he ran towards the source of the noise. Then the King saw Kevin and stopped. Something was coming towards his majesty? SUCH INSOLENCE! It was a casual Earth Power to stop such insolence, but just before the ground around the human erupted the human spoke. The King would listen to some final words, it might be amusing to hear what justification there would be for disrupting his slumber.

"Hey. Name's Kevin, Kevin Kronos. Sorry about wakin' ya. My buddies and I had a real bad drop from a different universe. We can gather up some berries as an apology and then we'll get out of your hair, deal?"

The King was enraged. During his many years of life he had learned to understand the humans enough to realize the impudent casual language being used. A simple Earth Power wasn't enough anymore. They stood there, facing each other. The King couldn't help but be impressed by the commoner's smooth voice and face that displayed utter confidence. Perhaps this wasn't a commoner but the ruler of a different domain? No matter, the punishment would be the same. An offering of berries was a paltry attempt at diplomacy for such a grave sin anyways.

So, the King opened his mouth as heat was forming, he would cook this meal and that would satiate him rather than some berries! The human spoke again, but the tone was different.

"No. Stop that. Bad Nidoking." It was... cold. So cold. It sounded like it was filled with utter disappointment and contempt. To the King's and everyone else's shock, he listened. They stood there again for a brief few moments before Psyra felt an emotion that started to be on par with Kevin's fear. The King's rage.

Rage at this impudent commoner, lord, whatever, sure. However, most of the rage was directed at himself for LISTENING. Listening to a... human. Those vile creatures... so he began to act.

"RUN DAMNITT!" Kevin screamed. The King charged, and Kevin jumped ON the King! He grabbed it by the horn and used the explosive power in his upper body to swing himself to its back. The King stopped as the human disappeared, but then it realized what had happened.

It was... being ridden? This human was on top of him and had him by the horn? The SYMBOL of his majesty was being defiled by human hands?

Meanwhile Psyra couldn't believe anything. How could he move? How could he do anything? Her senses couldn't be wrong, right? Why was the one that was the most scared the only one to act?

Why couldn't she be like that? Why couldn't she do anything? She watched in horror as the King flung the human up, and then horn would glow purple. No... not again. NOT THE SAME WAY EVEN!

Then the human landed, and the King's Poison Jab had landed. He let out a groan of some sort, and then the King flung the human, wanting to get this filthy waste off of its horn.

The Mightyena were... ashamed. This human spoke of protecting, and this human confronted what they kept running from. The human's body landed in front of them as the King roared triumphantly. Psyra then felt a surge of rage from two different sources that surpassed that of even the King while another was simply that of panic.

"You asshole! A muscle twink is a sacred object not to be defiled! Let me go you mangy mutts, I have to help Kevin!"

"No! I promised to protect him! LET ME GO!"

"KEVIN! KEVIN! KEVIN!"

They struggled to no avail against the canines pinning them down, which left the pack even further ashamed. These humans were struggling desperately despite being outmatched at the injustice towards a single member of their pack. Presumably, the leader but still. Slowly they got up and released the three before all five Mightyena followed by all fifteen Poochyena stood between the King and the rest.

The trio understood as they stood back, the pack was protecting them now. The reality that they would be even more useless than Kevin was set in for them. It was bitter.

The King watched in amusement as his subjects rebelled against him.

Meanwhile Kevin was still somehow alive and conscious through the magic of adrenaline. He figured he was delusional though because he heard something about a muscle twink. He could barely make out the pack that stood between him and the King. Slowly, he got up. The Mightyena obviously couldn't win, otherwise they wouldn't be so afraid. They were all going to die at this rate. Something was pushing him, and for the first time in over a decade he was sure of something. Psyra felt the fear shift to something she recognized, it was the emotion of her dad before... the end.

But weren't humans fragile? How... was he alive? What was this emotion? What she felt but couldn't describe would be in a word, determination.

Kevin was no longer afraid, no one knew why, especially not him. The pack stood in front of him, and their leader barked once. A mutual understanding was formed.

"Hey, I'm a human, and you lot are Pokémon. I don't actually have my starter yet, but I know what you lot can do like I said. Your strengths, weaknesses, moves you can possibly learn. Let's fight together, let's win. I know we can."

A howl of approval. The King roared to drown out the offending noise, but he was unsuccessful to even drown out the following words directing his downfall.

"Sand Attack! Then surround and use Howl, finish with Crunch or Bite!"

At once they executed the orders. Immediately every canine available turned around and kicked sand with their hind legs, it struck true. The King's roar was stopped as a mass of sand entered his mouth and eyes, then there was another howling. The King couldn't see, and all he could hear was howling on all sides of him. Blindly he tried launching Earth Power around him, but nothing hit.

"Now."

Then came the pain. All at once their ears went flat and a harmonious growl resounded in the forest. Then they pounced in a coordinated attack, and while the King could fling some off, he couldn't get them all.

What was happening, what was going on? The last time they fought the King had reduced the pack to the meager size it was now and these... stragglers were doing this? He let out a roar as he began to Thrash about in the darkness.

"Release, retreat, now." They all let go and retreated, the King stood there blind and bloody as he would Thrash at nothing. It didn't take long for the King to end up smashing his own head against the ground before falling over.

A howl of victory and then the pack started to lick and affectionately nuzzle against Kevin. Psyra could sense a last surge of fear from the King before nothing. They had won, they had stopped it. Kevin was aware of what he had caused to happen, what he ORDERED. His insides felt twisted.

He... never intended for the Nidoking to die. He simply wanted to win the battle so they would be safe. Guilt, pain, sadness, nostalgia, these emotions and more blended together. Psyra couldn't help but wonder how this human could feel these things towards that monster. It was at that moment she felt a peculiar emotion take hold of her; one she couldn't quite understand.

It was blissful, yet exceedingly painful. She saw the human fall as his adrenaline left him and in a burst of power, she was able to Teleport again to him. However, she could not support him like the human that caught him. All she could do was be next to him. The human that caught him was shouting orders, but she couldn't understand anything except for the names of Pecha, Oran, and Sitrus but it barely registered.

This human... this was her human, right? He said he would protect her, and he did. With help, sure, but anyone in the forest would need help against such a powerful Alpha. She grabbed on tightly to his stomach where the wound was. It was... purple. This human was... no. THIS WAS HER HUMAN! Not... of poison. That was... the worst. Especially not of poison, not again! Not like Mom!

She let out a wail of despair, but a voice interrupted her.

"He'll be alright. I'll protect him. I'm a doctor." All she could do was trust in this voice to help her human before sleep and overwhelming emotions took over.
