Chapter 3

It has been 2 weeks since I found this forest to train my control over my powers for the foreseeable future and quite frankly I’ve made zero progress absolutely none however I have made some discoveries involving my power those being that it seems that other things touching me does not allow them to be affected that is unless they have touched my hand then
I have also learned that seeing living things' souls does not require physical contact I have not yet found out what the different colors of the souls mean a detail I previously thought to be irrelevant when I first saw the man's paper white soul
However, I do not know if “soul” is a proper name for this mysterious phenomenon I can occasionally see I only decided to call it such when I was walking my way back to the forest I now temporarily call home from my daily walk around town as when I start seeing souls there is no visual distinction excluding the people, animals, and any other living things change of look into various colors, Anyway as I was walking listlessly at my waste of hours upon hours it happened
A sudden horn honks the screech of tires coming to a sudden halt the pause in the hustle and bustle of the city as everyone stops to look at the car hitting the random pedestrian the slight smell of burnt rubber begins to creep into the nostrils of bystanders yet to process the possible loss of human life
But I saw something much different I saw a beautiful yellow one that not even the sun itself could outshine being hit by a car with an occupant with a soul colored in one of the fiercest Reds I have ever seen the yellow was flung off the ground and went flying into the air as the yellow climbed the air almost as if to take the suns place with its beauty something I could only watch with regret the beautiful yellow slowly darkened as if a baleful black wished to take it's place
As if an envious conqueror willing to sacrifice whatever is needed to obtain what it wished it did slowly I saw that bright yellow become more of a mustard yellow then like someone dripped black ink upon that tendrils of darkness consumed even that unsightly yellow
As that baleful black disgracefully landed upon the ground with a thud as resounding as it was disturbing for some they screamed others mourned the loss of life for no good reason other than the incompetence of the driver a kind-hearted few rushed forth while calling for help whilst I cannot understand what they were saying I assumed for an ambulance
However, I was completely consumed with thoughts first of grief for the loss of such a beautiful yellow and then of possible answers for what these colors could mean is it visually showing me their state of mind? Or possibly their emotions, or just how injured they are?
However, before I could even begin to contemplate any further a paper white began to overtake that baleful black just the outer edges at first then slowly it enclosed further towards the center
Before the sirens could come any closer to be of assistance the white had taken completely over and just before I could hope to observe the driver of the vehicle to have any hope of narrowing down my answer as to what the color could mean it was over
Now all I could see instead of that calm paperwhite was a gorgeous teenage girl who would sadly miss out on the experience life could give her for her future was no more stolen away by the driver sobbing quietly behind the wheel of his car
