The Goddess of Autumn (2.1)

I returned to my own temple and saw the same scholar who had come to offer incense last time. He came again.

He had cleaned my temple and placed some fresh fruits on the incense table.

"Thank you goddess for blessing me and allowing me to pass the Autumn Exams. Today, I have come specially to offer incense to thank the goddess,' he said.

This mortal was not bad, but his actions made me curious, so I appeared before him.

"The Temple of Autumn Goddess is rarely worshipped by anyone. Why have you come?" I stood behind him and asked.

"The Autumn Goddess had blessed me to pass the provincial examination so I've come to fulfill my vow," he replied and stood up from the cushion.

Upon seeing me, he was momentarily stunned. He stared at me intently, then lowered his head, blushing, then bowed, "... I apologize for my rudeness."

"If you hadn't passed the exam, you wouldn't be the way you are now. You might have thought the Autumn Goddess was incompetent and would never come again in the future," I said.

"No... won't," he stammered, with a shy smile on his face he said, "If I hadn't passed the exam, then... it must be that I'm not talented. Even the Autumn Goddess wouldn't be able to save me."

I looked at his expression. It didn't seem like a lie. Instead, he seemed to have a sense of self-awareness. Considering he had cleaned the temple for me, I decided to seek a favor from the God of Literature on his behalf, wishing him success in the imperial examination.

"What's your name?"

"This scholar is called Ye Wenqu."

After knowing his name, I nodded and left the Temple of Autumn Goddess.

I arrived at a theater, where performers on the stage were singing with lively tunes.

This was the best theater in the city, not known only for its talented performers but also for its exquisite pastries. I sat in the best seat on the second floor, watching the performance while sipping tea and enjoying the pastries.

A man walked over to me; it was the mortal I had met last time. He took a seat across from me and said, "I wonder if the lady still remember me since we parted last time?"

I gave him a short glance, picked up a pastry, and continued watching the performance.

"It's fate that we meet again. I am Qin Jin. May I know the lady's name?"

"I'm watching the play," I impatiently interrupted him.

He still wore a gentle smile on his face, "I usually sit in this seat. I didn't expect it to be taken by the lady today. It seems the lady shares the same preferences as me..."

"You're really annoying. You've ruined my mood for watching the play." I stood up impatiently. This mortal was really annoying.

The smile on Qin Jin's face collapsed for a moment, but I couldn't care less. I grabbed two pastries from the tray and left the theater.

This mortal was lucky; fortunately, he encountered me. If it were Summer, she would have likely flipped the table and given him a good beating. Thinking about it, I couldn't help but praise myself for having a good temper.

I returned to my temple. Turns out, Qin Jin followed me here. He approached me and said, "Is the lady here to worship the Autumn Goddess? I also frequently pay respects to the Autumn Goddess." He said this and, in a pretentious manner, knelt before the goddess statue and offered incense.

I couldn't help but find his hypocritical behavior amusing. This was just an excuse for him to follow me. As for whether he had ever worshipped the Autumn Goddess before or not, I was well aware.

Taking advantage of his moment of worship, I left soundlessly.
