The Goddess of Autumn (6)

After spending three days in heaven leisurely, I decided to visit the mortal realm again, and it seemed that three years had passed there.

This time, I arrived in the capital city of the mortal realm, the scene was completely different from my last visit. Previously, everyone was full of vitality, it was a flourishing and prosperous. However this time, everyone seemed troubled, there were fewer street vendors than before.

"The new top scholar has arrived!"

The sound of gongs and drums accompanied the shouts.

In the blink of an eye, Ye Wenqu appeared in the sight of the people, riding a horse with a big red flower on his chest. He was dressed in a red robe, accompanied by several attendants.

"This top scholar is really handsome!"

There were many people around watching the excitement, some unmarried girls kept casting glances at Ye Wenqu, some even blushing and lowering their heads.

Although Ye Wenqu expressed his gratitude to the onlookers with bows, there was no apparent joy seen in his eyes. Although wearing bright red clothes and hat, it still couldn't conceal the sadness in his eyes.

'This Ye Wenqu was worthy of being a mortal who worshiped me and now he had become the top scholar' I thought to myself.

After a few glances, I went back to the Temple of the Goddess of Autumn to sleep.

"Today, I've achieved the top scholar position, all thanks to the blessing of the Goddess of Autumn."

I was sleeping in a daze when I heard a mortal talking in front of me. He dared to interrupt my sleep. Annoyed by the interruption, I opened my eyes impatiently and saw Ye Wenqu.

"It has been three years, and this scholar still haven't found Miss Qiu. I don't know where she is now, whether she has been taken away by those people, whether she is still safe and sound..." Ye Wenqu said with face full of sadness.

"Ye Wenqu." I couldn't bear to listen to his ceaseless rambling, so I came out to ask him to leave.

When Ye Wenqu turned around and saw me, he immediately ran over to me and hugged me.

"Miss Qiu! I'm not dreaming, am I? It's good to see that you're alright Miss Qiu, that's really great!"

'No male immortal had ever dared to hug me, this mortal was too bold.'

When I was about to push him away, he suddenly let go of me with a blush on his face and bowed to me to apologize,"This scholar deserves to die. I've crossed the line and tarnished your honour. I'm willing to let Miss Qiu scold me as much as you want."

I looked at my hand and thought it was better not to hit him. What if I accidentally killed him?

Seeing me not saying anything, Ye Wenqu cautiously looked at me and said, "If Miss Qiu wants to, I... I will take responsibility for Miss and will never let Miss down..."

"You're thinking too beautifully." I kicked Ye Wenqu's leg. What the hell was he thinking?

Ye Wenqu held his painful leg and smiled awkwardly, "I've overstepped the boundaries."

But for some reason, seeing his concern for me like this, I secretly felt a bit happy.

"But it's really delightful to see Miss Qiu again. Is Miss Qiu doing well?" Ye Wenqu looked at me with a very intense gaze.

I couldn't stand his gaze, so I raised my hand to to cover his eyes and said, "Don't look at me with that kind of gaze."

Ye Wenqu smiled foolishly. Although it was not annoying to be so stupid, it was a pity for his handsome and gentle appearance.

Thinking of this, I sighed slightly. "It's a pity that you were born handsome."

Ye Wenqu didn't understand what I was talking about and looked at me in confusion. His gaze was like the jade rabbit of Chang'e, foolishly  clear that it didn't even know that I had deceived it out of its mooncakes every time.

I suddenly remembered that I hadn't drunk the osmanthus wine under the tree, I asked him, "The osmanthus wine under the tree, you didn't dig it out again, did you?"

"No, no, that's Miss's wine, I wouldn't touch it."

"Then let's go and dig it up to drink," I said. I walked out of the temple, with Ye Wenqu following closely.

On the way, I encountered many common people complaining about their misery and complaining about God. I asked Ye Wenqu who was side, only to learn that there had been a severe drought in the mortal realm for the past two years.

Was the Dragon King dead? Did he not know how to send rain to the mortal realm?

As I thought about this, I drank the osmanthus wine, which was very mellow and had a strong osmanthus aroma, making it very tasty.

"Not bad," I praised. Seeing that Ye Wenqu who was beside me hadn't even touched the wine jar, I asked, "Why don't you drink?"

Ye Wenqu looked at me blankly, before reacting and said: "....... I was about to drink."

Drinking osmanthus wine while looking at the blooming flowers was truly a beautiful thing.

"This wine is good. If you have nothing to do, you can make more of it." I spoke with my back to Ye Wenqu, but suddenly there was a sound of something falling behind me.

I turned around and saw that Ye Wenqu had already drunkenly fallen asleep on the ground.

Helplessly supporting my forehead, I thought, 'If you can't drink then don't drink.'

I was about to leave when I heard Ye Wenqu's voice.

"Miss Qiu..." Ye Wenqu mumbled in his sleep.

Forget it. Who made me a kind-hearted goddess.

I placed him under the peach tree and let him sleep against the trunk. As for me, I went to find the Dragon King who didn't understand life and death.

When I found the Dragon King, he was in the midst of a romantic conversation with a fairy and indulging in tenderness.

"Why brings the Autumn Goddess here? Is there something wrong?" The Dragon King respectfully asked me.

"If I hadn't seen you today, I would have thought you were dead!"

"What does the Goddess mean?" The Dragon King looked confused, not knowing what had happened.

"How long has it been since you sent rain to the mortal realm? Do you know that there has been a severe drought on the mortal realm for two years?"

Upon hearing my words, the Dragon King panicked, "I have commited a sin, I have really forgotten it. I hope the Goddess will forgive my sin."

"I can't forgive you for your sins." I said indifferently.

"I understand, I will go and make up for the mistakes I made. But when I'm in front of the Jade Emperor, can the Goddess speak a few more words for me to help lighten my punishment?"

"Naturally."

"Thank you, Goddess." The Dragon King finished speaking and turned into a dragon, went up to the sky to prepare for the rain.

As I was about to leave, I suddenly felt that someone had lifted my offering table, so I hurried to the Temple of the Goddess of Autumn.

When I arrived at the temple, I saw a group of mortals surrounding the entrance, shouting that they wanted to smash the temple. The offering table had been overturned, but Ye Wenqu, with a few of his attendants, were protecting my statue and preventing the people from destroying it.

Although the blush on Ye Wenqu's face has not faded, he still firmly protected my statue, and he looked a little bit cute.

"The severe drought began three years ago in the autumn season, and now it's autumn again. I suspect this drought is the Goddess of Autumn's fault."

"That's right! There has been no harvest in the past few years. She can't ensure us a good harvest in the autumn, so what's the use of worshiping her?"

"Yes! We should smash the Temple of the Goddess of Autumn. Smash it!"

I watched as these mortals clamored to destroy my temple. I found it ironic. They have never worshipped me and yet when things went wrong, they put all the blame on me. Oh, mortals, the most selfish and incompetent beings.

"Everyone, calm down! Whether it rains or not is up to the decision of the heavens, it has nothing to do with the Autumn Goddess. We just need to patiently wait, we will eventually get rain," Ye Wenqu said with a frown.

"Scholar Ye, you don't understand. Because of the lack of water, my son passed away yesterday...............," a woman covered her face and cried.

"Ye Wenqu, don't think just because you're a top scholar, we won't dare to harm you! Come on, everyone, let's go in together! Smash the Temple of the Goddess of Autumn!" shouted a burly man as he barged in, followed by others.

"Everyone, calm down a bit! Don't be impulsive!" Ye Wenqu shouted.

"It's raining! It's raining!" A child shouted from the street outside, happily running in the rain.

The people in the temple heard the sound and stopped their actions, rushing outside to see.

Indeed, it was raining.

I stood in the temple to avoid the rain.

"It's raining! It's raining! Finally, it's raining!" Many people stood in the rain, joyfully shouting.

Ye Wenqu looked at the statue of the Autumn Goddess and muttered to himself, "Fortunately, it's raining."

"Why are you protecting the temple like this?" I walked over to Ye Wenqu and asked.

"Miss Qiu, " Ye Wenqu turned his head to see me, smiling gently while saying, "You may not believe me when I tell you, but I once saw the Autumn Goddess when I was a child."

Ah? I frowned.

He has seen me before?

[Note:]

The way Yu Wenqu and the Dragon King refer to themselves doesn't direcly translates to 'I' because they don't directly say I[wo] for formality reasons.

For example, in Yu Wenqu's case,  when praying to Qiu, he refers to himself as Xiao Sheng(小生)

in the Dragon King's case, when talking to Qiu, he refers to himself as Xiao Shen(小神)

So this xiao is used for formality as to not sound too arrogant ig, but it feels weird to write 'little scholar' or 'little god' so I just directly use 'I' or sometimes use 'this scholar'.
