••••••••••••••••••

Xiao Ning'er's life can be described in a simple term: A Caged bird.

Born into the Winged Dragon Family, a family of high nobility, her life was expected to be one of privilege and ease.

To the outside world, Xiao Ning'er's existence was something to be envied, but this perception was far from the truth.

The Winged Dragon Family, once proud and independent, found itself ensnared by a cunning scheme devised by Shen Ming of the Sacred Family.

The scheme was cleverly designed to seem beneficial at first glance.

Shen Ming proposed a partnership that promised prosperity and mutual growth. However, the contracts and agreements were laced with clauses and conditions that heavily favored the Sacred Family.

By the time the Winged Dragon Family realized the trap, it was too late.

The legal bindings of the agreements left them with no recourse but to comply,

This loss not only diminished their standing and resources but also made them subservient to the Sacred Family, altering the power dynamics within Glory City.

To maintain appearances and justify the sudden acquisition of land by the Sacred Family, a facade was necessary.

Thus, an arranged marriage between Shen Fei of the Sacred Family and Xiao Ning'er of the Winged Dragon Family was proposed. This marriage was meant to serve as a facade, a public display to mask the true nature of the Sacred Family's acquisition of land.

It was intended to quell any suspicions among the general populace and other noble families about the rapid change in fortune, ensuring that the Sacred Family's schemes remained hidden from public scrutiny.

Xiao Ning'er, therefore, became a pawn in a larger game of power and dominance.

Escaping the arranged marriage seemed like an impossible task, especially since her only apparent exit—being of low-grade talent—was firmly shut.

Xiao Ning'er was born with a green soul realm, an indicator of significant talent that demanded attention and nurturing.

This left her with a single, daunting path to freedom: to become so strong that even the Sacred Family could not impose their will upon her.

However, reaching a strength deemed acceptable to challenge the Sacred Family's decision meant achieving at least a Black Gold rank—a feat formidable enough to daunt the bravest of hearts.

Yet, Xiao Ning'er was determined, fueled by a desire for autonomy over her own life.

Fate, however, seemed to have its own cruel plans.

Just as Xiao Ning'er embarked on her journey of cultivation, a mysterious illness began to afflict her.

Night after night, she was tormented by excruciating pain.

Her legs would burn as if engulfed in flames, while the rest of her body was besieged by a deathly cold.

Bruises blossomed across her skin like dark flowers, each one a source of unbearable agony.

Despite weeks upon weeks of various treatments, relief remained elusive.

Yet, Xiao Ning'er's spirit remained unbroken. She entered the Holy Orchid Institute with a resolve as strong as ever, continuing her cultivation despite the pain it brought her. Her motivation was clear: she refused to marry Shen Fei.

The thought of tying her life to an abusive womanizer, of surrendering her freedom and agency, was intolerable.

She endured, driven by the belief that if one cannot fight for their freedom, they are doomed to a life of submission and misery.

...

Nie Li's frustration was evident as he navigated through the dense underbrush of the forest, pushing aside a bothersome vine with a grunt of annoyance. He couldn't fathom why Xiao Ning'er would choose such a secluded spot for cultivation. "Is it because of her illness? Does she not want others to discover her secret?" Nie Li mused, concern lacing his thoughts. The idea seemed foolish to him; the forest was crawling with demon beasts. The risk of an attack, especially with her condition potentially hampering her ability to defend herself, was not something to be taken lightly.

Parting a final bush, Nie Li stumbled upon an unexpected clearing in the heart of the forest. There, in the serene openness, he found Xiao Ning'er. Her orange hair, tied to the side with a purple accessory, complemented her distinctive pink dress adorned with red details and gold trim. The dress featured a green bow at the chest, and her skirts were layered, fluttering slightly in the gentle breeze. She was deep in cultivation, sitting in a lotus position, seemingly oblivious to the world around her.

Nie Li quickly took note of the incense mushrooms scattered around her. "Ah, so that's her secret," he realized. The mushrooms emitted an odor that repelled demon beasts, an aroma imperceptible to most humans, providing her with a natural barrier against unwanted interruptions.

"Who are you?!" Xiao Ning'er's voice cut through the silence as she abruptly stood, assuming a defensive stance with a dagger in hand. Her posture was both graceful and alert, showcasing her readiness to confront any threat.

"Impressive stance," Nie Li couldn't help but admire silently.

[ Narrative Point Detected ]

[ Select from the following ]

[ 1- Make Xiao Ning'er your follower ]

[ 2- Save Xiao Ning'er ]

As Nie Li stood there, a moment of confusion washed over him. He was familiar with the concept of narrative points shaping his journey towards saving Glory City, yet this time, the choices presented to him seemed unusually complex. On one hand, saving Xiao Ning'er appeared straightforward—help her now and potentially earn her gratitude. On the other, making her his follower implied a deeper connection, one that would necessitate mutual trust and possibly entail standing against the Sacred Family and Shen Xiu.

Nie Li weighed his options carefully. Saving Xiao Ning'er could mean a simple act of assistance, a one-time intervention in her life without a lasting bond. Meanwhile, convincing her to become his follower would likely involve a more significant commitment, including direct confrontation with powerful adversaries.

His past experiences flashed through his mind. Allies like Yang Xin and Shen Xiu had proven invaluable on his quest. The idea of having Xiao Ning'er as a follower, someone with her talent and potential, was enticing. Yet, the risks were undeniable.

Faced with this dilemma, Nie Li pondered his next move. Should he choose the path of least resistance and save Xiao Ning'er, leaving their future relationship uncertain? Or should he strive to make her his follower, embracing the challenges that such a choice might bring?

In Nie Li's mind, the decision boiled down to what would serve the greater good in his mission to save Glory City and whether he was ready to face the consequences of his choice.
