Chapter 4: Class and Benefits

"Excuse me," Marcus said softly as he entered the hut. Many weapons could be seen, hung on the wall of the hut.

In the hut was a man with grey hair and a grey beard. He possessed a lean body with a lot of definition, different from the average bulky Viking one would expect to see. There wasn't a single wrinkle present on his face, but a scar on the left side of his cheeks was visible.

He slowly opened his eyes and looked at Marcus. "Hmm, interesting name."

"Huh?" Slightly surprised, Marcus checked on top of him. Unlike other VRMMORPGs, this game did not showcase any player tag or HP bar on top of the head. On the exterior, players were no different than NPCs.

"Come, sit down." Hesitantly Marcus nodded as he walked towards the man and sat in front of him.

"My name's Gunnar, Gunnar Wolfhelm. But you can refer to me as Lord Gunnar."

"Sir, where am I?" Marcus asked respectfully. Inwardly, he already deduced that this most probably was an All-Knowing NPC that would show him his direction or something like that.

"Well, my duty is to help you choose your path." Before Marcus could say anything, Lord Gunnar tapped mid-air. A holographic screen popped out right after he tapped.

"Quite a big list it is..." Marcus couldn't help but comment as he looked at the long list of classes and the benefits that came with these skills.

"Which class do you wish for?"

Marcus instantaneously said, "Bounty Hunter." Previously, on one of the forums on the official website of BizzarTech, he had seen all the classes and decided he would select one from the Hunter class.

Marcus was somewhat familiar with how BizzarTech created their games, especially RPGs. All of them focused on balance with something unique.

The Hunter class in itself did not sound that impressive with its skill not being very specific; however, Marcus had played a few games with Hunter classes.

Ghermean The Hunter - was most probably his favorite character ever played.

"Hm, interesting choice," Lord Gunnar said with a smile on his face.

"Here." Suddenly pixels accumulated, forming a dagger and a pair of leather boots.

"Can't have you barefoot now, can I? This is the path you've chosen; now go forward."

Marcus suddenly felt energy hitting his body as his condition improved slightly. For the first time in a while, he felt like a normal person!

"Alright sir, thank you." Marcus quickly picked up the dagger, placing it around the leather belt, and then wore the leather shoe.

"Player Interface."

'2 Stat points?' Marcus thought for a few minutes. It was obvious that he needed to be careful with those Stat points, especially in such a game where every Stat Point seemed to be extremely important.

'HP will most probably be related to Vitality. However, I want the strength too...' Marcus didn't even consider charm as it seemed to be useless; for the starter interface, his intelligence was most probably high.

At the end, he added 1 Stat Point to Vitality and another Stat Point to Strength.

'Ah~ this feeling is almost addictive.' Marcus almost moaned in pleasure as he felt strength within him rising.

"Well, player, though you might have heard of this before, welcome to the world of Vikings. Your adventure begins from here." As these words faded, Marcus's consciousness slipped away.

After Marcus disappeared, Lord Gunnar looked at the empty space. "So these are the so-called otherworldly who will save our world? Noobplayer134? Narcissist?" At the end, he could just give a helpless sigh. All of these players seemed like a bunch of rookies that never saw a bloody battlefield in their entire life.

Marcus felt cold chills touching his body. He clenched his palms as he looked at them.

"Ha~ Hahahahaha!" With an excited laugh, he looked around the fields. Unlike the one he was in previously, this field was covered in snow.

Marcus ran as fast as he could. The burning sensation that would appear in his chest upon running, this time didn't come.

'This... All of this is really so fun!'

A/N: While this isn’t necessarily a slow paced novel, I will try to give some emphasis for descriptions and world building.
