The next day I woke up bright and early and crawled down from my tree.

After hanging my beast repellant, I built a small fire and ate some warm apple pies. I had found it was easier to make them if I made the individual ingredients first. I converted some tree sap into sugar with creation. I didn't get much sugar even from a whole tree worth of sap. I got about twenty pounds though after harvesting all I could from about five trees.

I could actually create small amounts of Cinnamon with Creation just like I could make bread. It was very costly though and took my

entire mana pool to make one eighth of a teaspoon.

With all the ingredients together the production cost of pies went down to just a little more than making a regular loaf of bread. So about fifty mana at the moment. Unfortunately, I was now almost out of apples as well.

Food is going to become a constant issue. I can easily survive on bread and fish but after thinking of all the tasty foods Alex ate in the other world, I wanted some diversity!

I used earth magic to build a good smoker, nice and sturdy this time. I then considered the best way to catch fish in mass amounts. I have actually been using fishing to level my water magic. I try to control the water around the fish and lift it above the surface. After lifting the fish above the river in its little ball of water, I quickly freeze the ball of water with the fish inside, before it can swim out and jump back in the water.

It sounds easy but it is not...

You have to accurately lead the magic and wrap it around the fish, then you have to be really fast to freeze it solid or the fish will just swim out of the ball and escape.

This really improved my magic skills. Not just with Water Magic either, it helped me to get faster at activating all of my spells.

Now...

maybe I can use a net?

I pondered on it for a bit and got an idea. Thanks again Alex!

I wanted to prepare a bit first. I ran and gathered some clay from the riverbank. In Moments I had made a clay pot with the clay from the lakebed using Creation. It was a large Onggi jar, made with a thick flat rim so I could stretch leather over it eventually. I had even covered it in a fish pattern that repeated and went all the way down to pot in a spiral.

Nice!

And I can make this instantly with magic. I want to try it the normal way, the way Alex did in his memories, eventually. It looked fun when I saw him making pottery when his memories were playing out.

Now I just need the meat. I ran to a spot a little further down the river where it was narrower...

I made a stone dam block the entire river. Basically, I made a small dam and reservoir area. The wall only went about an inch over the normal water level, it then flowed over into the reservoir and had a fall of about a foot.

I then made wooden cages that hung on the other side before the drop into the reservoir. Yep, the fish are swimming over the wall and jumping over it right in my cages.

After I had collected all the fish and the cages into my storage, I walked to my nice marble picnic table by the lake and laid them all out.

I used Creation to separate all the good meat from the waste.

Unfortunately, when I was focusing, I was also thinking of smoked fish...

I now had a pile of perfectly preserved smoked fish fillets.

Sigh... I looked sadly at the smoker I had trained so hard to make and improve...Someday.

I stored all the wasted fish parts for now, I could use them for things later. I stored my new fish in my new jar and covered it with fabric for now. I then added my new food supply to storage and walked back to remove the once again useless smoker.

Now that I have more food I need to think about my bigger problems...

After all that work thinking about what to do, I walked over to the pile of lumber I made previously and thought about how to put it together without screws or nails.

Hmmm, I think in the other world there were many different joinery techniques. Dovetails, box-joint, finger-joint, tongue-and-groove...

After wasting hours trying to make wooden pegs or trying to slot pieces together with joinery, I slapped myself in the back of the head.

"I'm so stupid!"

I quickly figured out I didn't need to do any of that!

Using creation magic, I seamlessly joined the wood joints together to make the basic rectangle shape of walls. It was like it was all one solid piece of wood.

I put them in my storage because I was trying to max out the skill level.

Well, I assume it maxes out at level ten; it could go to a hundred for all I know...

For the next two weeks I did nothing but practice earth magic until I leveled it up enough to bring up the rock from the ground and compress it into a solid foundation.

After I thought it was a big enough foundation for a large house, I used Earth Magic to carve out a huge rectangular hole under the top foundation I had raised. This would someday be the basement for my house.

I compressed the walls and floor of the basement as much as I could.

After refilling my Mana, I used Creation magic to upgrade the material. I was focusing on denser, stronger, and better for my upgrade requirements. I upgraded one of the smallest walls and it almost made me pass out because it used my entire filled mana pool to upgrade that one tiny wall.

"I will have to figure out a way to lessen the load."

After that I refilled my mana and used earth Magic to divide up all the walls into rectangular sections. They were all a bit smaller than the initial wall, but it worked.

I was able to upgrade one rectangle of wall at a time. I used Observe and it was a material called Diabase. I have never heard of it before. I was just trying to upgrade it to the strongest material I could currently.

I tested it by making a small slab of it and dropping a massive boulder on it later after I rested. It wasn't even scratched, even though I launched my boulder at it with extreme speed and force.

After a few days I had successfully upgraded the entire basement to Diabase. Once I was sure the walls, floor and ceiling were as strong as I could get them. Which took me a week by the way... I used my joined wooden rectangles to create the interior walls.

I used creation magic to merge the wood together until I had a nice wooden skeleton framework for the interior.

I next cut down about a hundred trees from the forest and put them all in my storage. This will be a lot of extra work, but I want it to look somewhat nice.

I went up and down the steps to my bunker many times in the past week. I would go up and create new wood boards and panels and walk back down to install it.

I then used Creation on more plant material and used it to make thick sheets of soundproof insulation to go inside the walls, over the floor, and under the ceiling. This is going to make it take even longer, but it will be worth it. I want as much of the sound blocked as possible. Some beasts have excellent hearing after all...

I then cut down even more trees and made wooden paneling to cover the insulation.

At the end of the day, I had a Wooden, underground, soundproof, bunker.

I walked around the lake and used earth magic to raise the layer of sod a little larger than my future house. I then covered the raised foundation by transporting the grass with storage.

What I had now was a relatively hidden, large and empty room. I am not ready to build a house yet, I want to spend about a year improving various skills before I do. Especially my new production-based skills like Woodworking, Engraving, Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, and Forging.

There are definitely more skills I don't even have yet.

By the way the whole reason I worked so hard to make a hidden room in the first place is because it is getting colder. It's not really cold yet but the temperature has cooled off considerably.

I am in the very end of summer, so I really need to prepare for winter. And I can't sleep in a tree here during the winter. I remember how much snow fell when I was in the orphanage...

It was a scary amount. I remember being scared the roof was going to fall and kill us while we were sleeping.

I walked around my nice wooden interior and mentally divided it up into sections for rooms.

After that I made the back half my bedroom and bathroom. I installed a large marble bathtub in the bathroom. That and a toilet are all that is there. I had to dig even lower beneath that room and install a septic tank like reservoir. I have to use water magic every time to flush it down, but it will work for one year at least, I hope.

To make the toilet I just used Creation on the clay from the river. It looked just like the toilets from Alex's memories. Though the tank at the back is just open and that is where I cast the water magic.

I had found out that I can extract iron sand from the river that flows on the other side of the huge lake. I had extracted as much as I could in an hour and had several hundred pounds of iron. I had used this to make a few things, like tools for the fireplace as well as a metal grate and a handle for the toilet. It took me several days to figure out the flush system with the floater and plunger. It was annoying for sure.

The most annoying thing about staying down here is I have to cast light magic about every hour. That is as long as one of my light speres will last before the inner mana depletes and I have to recast it.  Without my light magic it is pitch dark in here...

I did find I can cast Clean with a lot of Mana on the water in the bath and it will purify it if I hold that image. I can also use fire Magic to heat the bath water by slowly lowering the weak fireball into the water, I have to repeat that multiple times, but it does work. If I lower the fireball too fast though it will cause a steam explosion. It takes me about forty-five minutes of repetition to heat the bath.

Next, I made the living room area. It just had a wooden bench and a large Marble fireplace. The Smoke from the fireplace might give me away, But I will be hidden down here, locked inside. Hopefully it will be enough to protect me.

I still remember that creature outside the tree hollow, banging on the tree trying to break through...

The herbs for Repellant that grow all around the lake, that are probably responsible for my current peaceful lifestyle, will all be covered in snow. Which means creatures could come to this area more often. This is why I spent so long upgrading all the materials to the strongest form I could and made my bunker as hidden as possible. The only part that will even be noticeable is the chimney. I disguised the top with a boulder, but I can't stop the smoke from coming out...

I used Creation to make a durable steel trapdoor that opens to a ladder. I got rid of the stairs for now because I made the hole for the trapdoor barely big enough to fit through. It is also hidden unless you know where to look.

There are also pipes that lead from further away to my basement then out on the other side. I can use magic to pull fresh air in and push the stale air out from inside the bunker. Of course, this will pull cold air in at the same time.

Living down here will be super inconvenient but this is about survival.

The next day I mentally prepared myself to go hunting. I planned to spend a lot of the fall hunting and stockpiling ingredients. Hopefully I can find some fruit trees or something...

All preparations have been completed.

"Let's go!"

I nervously walked away from my new home towards the forest. I am going into the forest to search for prey. I have to start stocking up on meat and food for the winter.

By the way something really amazing has happened. After I cut down those hundred trees and stuffed them all into my storage, my storage skill hit rank ten, which is the max level for skills apparently. Anyway, after that the skill evolved and became Dimensional storage level one. I tested it and it stops or at least slows down time inside.

This is really going to help me out this winter. I can collect much more herbs without them drying out and dying. I can also make sure my food is safe and always with me.

After some time, I started hearing the signs of wildlife. I must have exited the area of my repellants. I am not wearing any right now because I wanted to hunt for meat. I have noticed the beast repellant does not just repel monsters, but animals like deer, boars and birds as well. I hope I can find an orc or two today, that guy was delicious. Come to me my jerky.

I saw two horned rabbits resting in a small clearing and immediately fired two air blades at each of them which bisected them perfectly.

"That was much easier than I thought it would be. I guess all that training has paid off."

I drained the blood from the rabbits and used creation magic to extract the salt from it, adding it to a large leather pouch. This is my only source for salt currently. I have not been able to find it anywhere, so I have to extract it from living creatures...

I decided to retreat for the day since I got some meat. Although I kind of went overkill on them since my air blades sliced them into pieces and gouged out the ground behind them.

As I was walking, I felt something ram into my back and pierce into my body. I immediately started to feel slightly dizzy, so I quickly used healing magic on myself. I next pulled out a general-purpose antidote from my storage and chugged it down while spinning around to get a look at my attacker.

I was able to make the antidote after leveling up my alchemy skill and I am very thankful to have prepared some at the moment.

When I turned around there was a wasp the size of a Labrador hanging in the air creating a loud buzzing sound. I'm not afraid to say I was shaking in fear.

In my past life, I mean Alex's life! I was deathly allergic to wasps and bee stings, not to mention the size of this one. I guess that terror carried over. Its stinger looked like a rapier! It darted at me again and I dove to the ground. Rolling onto my back I fired off about a dozen maximum-strength tiny two-inch air blades.

The wasp of course was turned to confetti instantly, as was about ten trees behind it... Breathing heavily, I got up and leaned against a tree trying to stop my shaking. I cast Clean on myself to try to help me calm down. I feel bad about the collateral tree damage, but wood do it again. Heh. I took deep breaths and closed my eyes to meditate for a bit. That's when I heard something much more terrifying.

My eyes snapped open as the buzzing got louder until the very air was vibrating with it. There were about a hundred of the wasps flying through the trees towards me. I paled and didn't waste a moment to fire off as many razor-blade-sized wind blades as I could, before running away as fast as my short legs could carry me. I ran and ran, occasionally launching more wind blades behind me without even looking at what I was firing at. I can't really remember but I may have cast a major blizzard spell behind me as well. After running for around ten minutes, I began to slow down and looked behind me. There was a trail of destruction that looked like a tornado had ripped through the forest. I pulled out a Medium-grade Mana potion and chugged it down while breathing heavily. I immediately noped out of the situation and walked quickly back towards my house.

Maybe I should reconsider burning this whole wretched forest down...

As I was nearing home, I realized I needed a way to detect enemies to avoid ambushes.

After hanging two more beast repellants just to be sure... I sat down beneath my favorite tree and closed my eyes.

I was trying to use Magic to detect all lifeforms around me. I imagined constant tiny undetectable waves of mana leaving my body and returning to me with information about any lifeforms in the area. I was trying to make a form of magical radar. After about three hours of intense focus, I could suddenly sense all the lifeforms around me in a large radius.

I couldn't differentiate them yet; I could just get a general sense like, a lifeforce over that way about sixty feet.

Unfortunately, I don't have the mini map from the games Alex used to play. I guess I did succeed in making detection magic, even if it doesn't work as well as I would like. I checked my MP and it only used one MP about every five minutes. My Mana recovered faster than that, so I decided to keep it active all the time to help level up the skill. Status.

Hi, Remmi here, it's been about two months since I started gathering materials to survive the winter.

I had managed to make a bed and put it in my bunker, but it was just a small cot with several blankets on it. I am still sleeping in my tree until it gets too cold to do so.

Which unfortunately, it finally has.

The nights are cool enough that I can see my breath. Even with all my blankets it has become very uncomfortable to sleep in the tree. I have started to shiver, even though my new thicker warmer rabbit fur lined cloak. I remodeled my cloak with creation magic using several pelts from the various horned rabbits I have hunted. It was warmer but still not warm enough if you are constantly out in it.

In the past two months I had kind of overprepared on the food aspect. I had hunted a lot of meat.

I had various kinds of meat as well.

I had the most of Orc meat though, those guys are everywhere in the forest.

I had really lucked out and managed to find quite a lot of berry bushes in the forest in the first month of fall. Several kinds as well so I have variety.

I had also found quite a few yucca, soapwort, and ginger roots. I combined these to make shampoo and soap! I also found many types of edible mushrooms, and a whole crate of wild yams. Ah I love the fall...

But now the time has come. It is time for the quarantine.

I had been putting up with the cold as long as I could. But today a light snowfall had already begun.

I had also gathered as many of the repellant herbs as I reasonably could without taking everything. I was worried they wouldn't grow back if I took too many, so I only took about one quarter of them. I pulled open the trapdoor and stared down into a dark abyss. I called on my light magic and used it to light the room below. I then climbed down the ladder, closing the door behind me...

I walked over to the ventilation mechanism and used wind Magic to rotate the air in the room. I pulled fresh air in and pushed stale air out. It only took about ten minutes to freshen the air but when I did the cold air of winter was pulled in along with it.

After that I went ahead and started a fire in my fireplace. I had a huge amount of firewood prepared. It took up at least half of the living room area. I had memories of couches and chairs from Alex's life, but I can't or don't know how to make them.

My memories of his life are hazy and fragmented. Like I know what Nacho cheese is and how good it tastes, but I don't know how to make it...

I did manage to make one thing, kind of...

It was a giant bag stuffed with something soft that you could sit on. Mine is stuffed with cotton. I would sink way down into it when I sat down, and it actually curled up around me because I sank in so deep. It was very comforting and warm to sit on. I call it the fluff chair.

As I sat there staring into the flames, I prayed to the Gods that I would be able to keep my sanity...

I'd gone ahead and moved my bed into the living room area. I had turned what was once going to be my bedroom into a magical practice room. I recoated the entire room in more stone. As it was upgraded as far as I could, I couldn't damage it except for lots of explosive spells.

I planned to practice my magic a lot. I couldn't use any large-scale destructive spells, but I could practice my Magic control and casting speed. I always made sure to completely use up all my Mana as often as I could. It seemed to help my Int increase faster, which in turn increased my mana pool. I need as much Mana as I can get for the bottomless pit that is Creation Magic. There is always something I want to try that is just out of reach.

I was also very close to maxing out woodworking at this point. I am curious if it will evolve at level ten into a higher tear version like my storage. I had done a lot of woodworking building this place after all. I had actually left some thick strips of trim all the way around the top and bottom of the walls for me to try and carve designs into. I am hoping this will help me max out the skill.

Well, I may as well get started...

Hi, Remmi here...

It has been about five weeks since I entered my bunker, and I have been having some annoying problems. Even though I made the vent holes pull air from about six feet off the ground, my vent pipes have been getting blocked by snow. I have to keep going outside to unblock them.

The first time it happened I panicked for a moment because I couldn't open the trapdoor. Then I remembered I had planned for this. I left a metal slide window on the trapdoor; I could slide it open and see the snow from beneath. I could then keep placing the snow in my storage.

Once I got outside, I could store a lot of the surrounding snow at once. I had to continually do that until I got to the vents exits and remove the snow from them. After that happened, I actually played in the snow. I was going crazy down there. There is nothing to do after all.

Well, there are things to do, I am just tired of doing them constantly.

I had completed the trim carvings and maxed out my woodworking skill. When it hit level ten, I got a Unique skill called Material Manipulation. I actually used creation to make myself some chisels and did a lot of it by hand. In the beginning I was really bad at it, and my regeneration skill actually leveled up after cutting myself so many times. Fortunately, Alex had done a lot of this type of carving in his life, and I picked it up pretty quickly.

I carved interweaving vines and flower patterns all around the top and bottom. I didn't have any wood finish or stains, so it was just plain carved wood, but I wanted to finish it someday.

On several of the central wall panels I had carved dahlias in elaborate detail. I carved so much I actually had gotten the engraving skill and leveled it up to level eight.

Speaking of material manipulation, I could use it to manipulate any types of materials, even snow. So, when I said I played in the snow I actually used Material Manipulation to make snow sculptures. I had gotten pretty good at it.

In the following week after getting the skill, I went around and removed all of the tool marks from all my carvings, making them smooth. I then used material manipulation to compress the surface of the wood to make it look shiny.

As for magic I had improved quite a bit. I even improved fire magic by several levels. I did it by summoning fire in the shape of butterflies or other animals and had them fly around. I was now up to twenty-two butterflies. I would make them fly all around me making sure to make their flight look natural. It is very difficult to keep track of them all and keep them from crashing into each other.

I did this with the other elements as well. Fish and other sea life for water magic.

Tiny golems made of earth that would battle each other.

The only one difficult was the wind element. It was almost transparent, so I didn't work with it as much, but I get plenty of experience with it working the ventilation system.

Magic will always be the most fun. I was currently taking a bath and was using water magic to create a ship on the surface of the water being attacked by a kraken.

After the kraken was defeated by a heroic person with wolf features, there was another ship that approached and started to fire cannons. I even made the tiny cannon balls fly through the air.

Suddenly I sighed, I let the magic drop and got out of the bath. I cast dry on myself and walked back to my living room. I didn't even bother to get dressed.

For today at least, I had become a nudist...

I was feeling severe melancholy...

The light orb above suddenly rapidly dimmed and went out.

sighing again, I just sat in the darkness a bit, the only light coming from the embers in the fireplace, casting a shimmering glow. I just want winter to be over already... I have so many things I want to try with magic...

I eventually got up and threw another few logs on the fire.

After sitting back down on my fluff chair I got an idea. I decided to use light magic to make tiny glowing fairies that flew around. I had been training this way with the other elements and had never done it with light magic before. I started with one that was the usual light golden glow of light magic. I next tried to shift the color by changing the wavelength of the light. It was not that difficult as it all relied on your imagination.

I then had a fairy that was glowing blue, then a third that was green. Soon over a dozen fairies of different colors were flitting all around the room. I was feeling the normal pull on my magic when I suddenly felt the pull lessen. Then I got an intense pain in my head and suddenly the world went black...

I groaned as I regained consciousness. The fire was dead, and the room was cold, I had never put back on my clothes was laying there completely naked on my fluff chair. I stumble to my feet and out of habit launch a light into the air.

My breath is leaving little clouds in the air. I must have been asleep for a while...

I threw some more logs on the fire. I summoned a fireball and launched it into the fireplace. Soon enough there was a large crackeling fire in my hearth. As my mind cleared and my head stopped throbbing, I crashed back into my fluff chair.

I then realized that something was very different. I quickly figured out that my memories of Alex's life were no longer fragmented. In fact, I could remember everything. And I mean every single thing. I could recall the number of tiles on the ceiling of his first-grade classroom. I could recall the license plate of his first foster mothers' car. I could remember every word in every book he ever read.

Similarly, I could remember the past year with excruciating detail. The feeling of the cane splitting my back apart. The number of floorboards in the orphanage floor...  Did I level up something and get a weird skill? Status.

Hmm, the most probable cause is my Intelligence Leveling up to 200 and my mana breaking 1,000.

I seem to have gained an Eidetic Memory which had to do with intelligence right...

Oh, my mana control maxed out and I got a new unique skill. Multicast huh, that seems pretty self-explanatory, but couldn't I do that already? I don't get it...

And a new Mana control skill but Legendary this time? That's probably why my constructs got easier to maintain at the end as well.

Ohhh, illusion magic. How exciting! A whole new branch of magic to play with, but Creation magic sure is slow to level Huh. It's not like I have not been using it. I use it every day, all the time, for almost everything. Maybe there are some weird hidden conditions...

Oh, I really need to work on meditation and observation as well. They are almost maxed out.

I turned to face my only friend. "Well maybe you can answer me this?"

I looked at my stuffed bear I had made one day while bored.

If I have a perfect memory, "WHY THE HELL CAN'T I REMEMBER ANYTHING BEFORE I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD!" Everything before that is still a blank. I know I was at the orphanage longer than that as well! I had scratch marks on my bedpost representing my birthdays. There were six of them! W-why can't I remember?

I began to sob uncontrollably. I was screaming and throwing things.

Poor Mr. Pookie got thrown towards the fireplace...

I cried and cried as I had a complete breakdown on my living room floor...

Hey, Rem here...

It has been two weeks since the mysterious disappearance of Mr. Pookie. We may never know what happened to him. All that was found at the scene of his disappearance was a bit of singed cotton in the fireplace.

We are holding out hope he crawled up the chimney to escape, but things are looking pretty grave...

I have only been doing one thing lately, working with creation magic. At first, I was determined to level it up all the way so I could eventually create some mythical item to restore my missing memory. Now I was just bored, trying to make random things with it. I was fixating on random objects from Alex's world, almost none of which I could actually create.

I was trying to create things from nothing like with the bread. Or create things from air I should say, as I am convinced that's how it works. I had just tried to make a jump rope and failed. I would be able to make one with cellulose of course, but since I was just using air, it didn't work.

Blinding headache after headache. Toaster, fail, mailbox, fail, pocket watch, fail, sunflower seed...success.

I was so shocked I sat there staring at it for almost five minutes.

A seed? I can make seeds!

Alex used to work on a farm when he was a kid and gardened throughout most of his life. So, I knew about seeds and plants. I tried again nervously.

Tomato seed, flash of light, success. Wheat seed, cabbage seed, lemon seed, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, strawberry!

All were successful. I was suddenly almost out of mana. Ah, one hundred mana a piece. That's expensive... As a last test, I tried using creation on the pumpkin seed to turn it into a sunflower seed. It worked and... only cost twenty mana... haha, hahaha, Mwahahahaha!!!!! I can grow some crops this year Dammit! Whoooooohooooooo!

After about an hour of randomized silly dances and other victory poses which may or may not have included hip thrusts... I decided I should prepare a crop field.

"I'm glad Mr. Pookie wasn't here to see that embarrassing display." I climbed up the ladder as fast as I could and slammed open the door. I had just cleared the door yesterday so there wasn't much snow piled up on the trapdoor this time. I am excited to have something else to do...Something different.

I quickly cleared all the snow in the area and walked about thirty feet behind where the foundation of my future house ends. Between where my house will be and the river. I used fire magic to burn the dead grass in a large two-hundred-foot rectangle. After it dried and burned, I used Earth Magic to rotate the soil and pulled out any rocks or sticks I saw get kicked up.

I next used the earth magic to dig small trenches for the seeds to go. The whole operation took me thirty-four minutes...

I don't have any seeds, and even if I did it's too cold, even for cauliflower, which is the hardiest of crops and can still grow even in five-degree weather.

I decided I would just spend some time every day making seeds until the weather warms up a bit.

Now bored again I looked over at the frozen lake. I then got out some leather, wood and an iron ingot. Using Creation, I managed to make some ice skates.

As I fell repeatedly, having to occasionally use healing magic on my bruised bottom, if you looked at the edge of the new field you would see a tiny, engraved tombstone.

In loving Memory of Mr. Pookie

Your loss is un-bear-able,

a truly Grizzly affair.

Your killer was a true bar-bear-ian,

Leaving us feeling bear-ived.

When I think of you, I will always paws,

and your memory shall last fur-ever...

You will be missed fur-iously.
