I gazed.

Is that even the right word for it? I was staring, but not at something, but at nothing.

To explain, I’m basically staring at the darkness. Plain, creepy, eerie darkness.

Why you may ask? I have no fuxking idea. A minute I was just in bed, and now here I am. Even when trying to open my eyes, I couldn't for some reason

So I came up with a possible yet terrifying conclusion.

 I was blind

 Why? I don’t know.

I don't remember any illness regarding my eyes or anything wrong with them. Heck, if someone stabbed me in the eyes when I was sleeping, well, screw them!

However, that’s nearly impossible and highly unlikely. I mean, who would do that? A psychopath? Might as well kill me.

After being alone and scared in the darkness for who knows how long, the thought of being blind started crumbling down when a strange thing happened. It even made me question if this was real or not.

In front of me stood this floating blue screen that just stood out in the darkness. It had just one word on it.

[Welcome].

I stared at it for quite some time.

One word yet raises so many questions.

I was already in a stage where I believed this was a dream. Yes, a dream. There is no way that this thing, this floating-blue-heck-of-a-something-obviously-not-real is not something from a dream. Ain't no way, an actual blind person would have this in their vision. That's absurd

If this is not a dream, then I don't know what this even is.

Let’s see if I remember correctly. Before all of this happened, I was just in bed, asleep, of course—what else could I be doing? Then after that, this happened. I couldn’t speak; believe me, I tried various times. Also, I couldn’t feel the rest of my body. My hands, legs, or anything for that matter.

“...”

Am I even human?

So, in complete darkness with no explanation, possibly not human anymore, a screen just popped out of nowhere. Being a dream is a big possibility. But not being a dream is also a possibility.

Putting aside my thoughts, I shifted my utmost attention to the blue box. I ‘stared’ at it for a while, trying to understand its existence.

Why did it suddenly appear out of nowhere?

To be honest, It felt familiar. It seems familiar. Not from a video game, but something... something...

‘...’ The realization hit me like a brick

‘Oh, fuxk. Don’t tell me this is a system?’

‘OH-MY-GOD, It is!’

Yeah,  a system.

For those who don't know, A system is typically a cheat given by a higher being. This stems from a genre that blends something from a video game with a book. It was very popular and known in mangas and novels, where the main character gets cool powers from a mysterious entity in the form of a screen. I knew of them since they are quite popular in the Isekai genre.

I was kind of surprised at myself for not realizing it sooner.

'Wait now, hold on. This is a system, I'm sure of it, I think. And I'm not at home anymore. Also, I might not even be human.’ My thoughts began racing. 'This has got to be a dream, right? Unless, unless—I've been... Isekai’d! Holy sh-’

That was it! It could be that. There was no other explanation other than that. It sounds illogical, but could there be anything that could really explain this?

Naturally, I freaked out, but there was also a tiny bit of excitement hidden underneath. It may be due to the fact that being in the shoes of an Isekai character was pretty much something everyone who is a fan of those tropes wanted.

It can't be real, can it?

Even with the evidence present, I couldn't help but doubt it. Me, in another world, wow, that’s just unbelievable. I was still under the tight assumption that I was in just a dream and I could wake up at any moment.

Any moment now.

Any moment.

“...”

...I’m not waking up, am I? God, I wish I could pinch myself to confirm I was in a dream.

Still in denial about the whole situation, but I’ll try to accept it.

The first thing to do is to find out if this system is responsive or not. The problem is, how do I talk about this thing? I can't speak, touch it, or do anything since I don't even have limbs, for goodness' sake. From what I can remember, the main character usually talks to the system or treats it like some gadget. But I'm stuck not knowing what to do since I don’t have either of those things.

‘System, uhm. Show status,’ I spoke.

[Analyzing host...]

The word ‘Welcome’ disappeared and was replaced by another.

Again, my surprise grew bigger when I heard a robotic female voice that accompanied the text on the screen. Was there a person behind that?

[Gathering Data]

[Scanning]

I was patiently waiting for it to finish. Yes, patiently. I’m not impatient. Maybe back then, but now? I learned that being patient does have its merit rather than throwing a tantrum for just waiting five minutes in a line.

[Data confirmed]

[NAME: ??? - Must be given to proceed]

Wait, what? A name?

That honestly surprised me. So it wanted me to have a name. But did I already have one before? Couldn’t it just automatically put it there?

“...”

That’s weird. I was about to mention my name, but something stopped me from doing that.

I couldn't recall it.

How could something as basic as my own name slip my mind?  This worried me to an extent. If I forgot my name, then what else could I have forgotten? This whole situation was getting stranger by the minute.

I decided to worry about that later and continue this given requirement set by the system. After some contemplation, I settled on Valt. It had a nice ring to it.

[Valt - is this the name you want to receive] [YES/NO]

Without hesitation, I firmly responded, "Yes."

[WELCOME HOST - VALT! I’m your system. You call me ‘SYSTEM’. Is there anything I can help you with?]

So its name is a system? Huh, does it have self-awareness? It would be cool if it does.

‘Uh, yeah. Can you explain where I am?’

[Answer: You are currently conscious. Your body awaits your orders]

That gave no context or whatever to my situation, but a body? That assures me that I am alive.

‘Is this real? Or a dream?’

[ANSWER: The System assures that whatever the host has experienced is, in fact, real. Everything the host will do/has done will have an impact on the world]

‘Okay…’  So not a dream, got it.

Now what else I coul-Oh right, I almost forgot.

‘System, Can you show me my status?’

[Affirmative]

[STATUS]

[Host: Valt]

[Lvl: 1] [Exp: 0/100]

[Health: 100/100]

[Species: Slime]

[Sections:]

[STATS]

[ABILITIES]

[SKILLS]

[QUEST]

I scrolled through each word displayed with attentiveness. Even with my serious thoughts on the matter, I couldn't help feeling excited on the inside. It felt like navigating through a video game menu.

The species section caught my attention. At first, I didn't think much of it, but then the realization hit me.

‘I’M A SLIME?!’

[ANSWER: Yes. The host chosen species is a slime]

I was shocked, but a disappointing feeling followed.

‘Wait, a slime? Really? Why?’

[ANSWER: With all the data gathered and analyzed. The System has deduced that the host primary species is a slime]

Huh? But why?

I wanted to ask further but decided not to.

Considering the circumstances, being a slime kind of made sense.

It explained the lack of human sensations or being human at all. I wasn't panicking, well, not exactly, because, come on, who would panic in such a situation? Right?  Well, I am joking, of course, I am panicking.

Like who would not? Being turned into something inhuman and kinda gross sounds like a nightmare to many. Seriously, after knowing, I just hope this is all a dream.

Calming down somewhat, I just remembered some novels I read back at home that are quite similar to mine. In those novels, the protagonists would find themselves transmigrated not as humans in another world, but as entirely different species. So, I was just another character in that trope.

Can’t I just be a human? Why a slime of all creatures? The thought of me being a dragon instead occurred in my mind. Actually, Could I have been a dragon? I wouldn’t mind. System, can I do a reset?

Seeing no response, I didn't further plead. It was no use anyway. Rather, I used my time to continue my way studying my status section mainly my attributes or the stats as the system calls it.

‘System, display each section with different windows, please.’  I even added a polite word at the end to show my sincerity.

The system did what I told it to do. Four windows popped out. I looked at the left side first.

[STATS]

[Strength - 1]

[Constitution - 2]

[Dexterity - 1]

[Intelligence - 3 ]

[Willpower - 2 ]

Looks normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

[SUGGESTION: Would the host like the system to explain each stat?]

‘No, thank you,’ I quickly declined.

I was already very familiar with them due to my gaming experiences back at home, so I didn't need any information.

Normally, these would be the sheets for a character, displaying the sections that they can improve. Strength determines how much attack and physical impact I can deliver, Constitution refers to my defense, while Dexterity affects my speed and movement. Intelligence and willpower, on the other hand, control my mental capacity. Intelligence governs my magical capabilities, while willpower acts as a mental defense against mind control and stuff like that.

I did notice that my stats were terrifyingly low. I couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment. Given that I am such a small creature and a slime which is considered one of the weakest creatures whether in a game or a fantasy book, it would be understandable given how low my stats are.  But still, in the end, it’s not bad, I guess?

[ABILITIES]

[Gamer Body(SYSTEM): Grants the host infinite possibilities with limitless potential!]

[Adaptive Resistance: Grants the host the ability to develop resistance to encountered threats over time.]

[Self-Regeneration: Grants the host the ability to heal itself and fix molecular structures.]

[ Beyond Sense: Grants the host the ability to sense their surroundings. Much like an eye, the host can perceive what he sees in front of him (Alert! Activation is still in progress )

Moving on to the abilities section, I saw four.

I set aside the gamer's body ability. It was self-explanatory. I have a system, I can level up like a character in a video game. Like I said, is explanatory.

Adaptive Resistance is quite a name. So it stated that I could resist and adapt to the damage? What type exactly? So If I were to be put in flames, would I develop resistance to it?

[ANSWER: The Adaptive resistance can nullify any harm, granting the host immunity by developing resistance after enduring a significant amount of damage from the same source.]

‘So does it only work on external damage or internal?’

[ANSWER: External]

'Right’

Moving on.

For Self-Regeneration, I could heal myself. That’s it. A pretty good ability right there.

For ‘Beyond Sense,’ I was quite at a loss about what the activation phase meant. After reading its description, I could make it such that it allows me to have vision like an eye?

[ANSWER: The ABILITY: (Beyond Senses) allows the host to sense and grasp their surroundings by doing so the Host can visualize the environment]

Hmm

‘System, can you explain why my beyond sense is still in the Activation phase?’

[ANSWER: Due to some complications found during the creation process, the system had some setbacks. The host does not need to worry; the activation phase does not require a long period of time]

I was more worried about the error part.

Errors? Wait, a system can have errors? That’s a first.

With the first section done, I went to the next.

[SKILLS]

[Gluttony(SPECIAL GRADE): A skill used to consume another life form to capture its essence, which will turn into experience points for further growth.]

[Identify(SPECIAL GRADE): A skill used to identify sources the host does not know. If the host is closer to the target, The host can use the Extra Skill: (Further Inspection) to inquire about the stats of the target.]

Skills, Quite good, from the first impression it gave me. (Gluttony), I can consume stuff that is expected for a slime. ( Identify) is quite something. It acts like some sort of guide for me to know stuff about this world, which is very convenient. Not to mention, It even has another bonus skill which is further inspection which can let me see the stats of others.

One noticeable thing is that there is no Level indication of these skills. Honestly, it could be that they’re already max level. If so then, I can’t complain.

‘System, is there any limit to these skills? Like cooldowns?’

[ANSWER: Both the SKILL: (Gluttony) and SKILL: (Identify) are identified as SPECIAL GRADE and thus require no limit of use.]

That seems kinda broken

‘Then what about Level Induction of these skills?’

[ANSWER: Skills that are identified as SPECIAL GRADE do not require a level indication and cannot be further improved.]

‘That means they are at max level?’

[ANSWER: Yes]

Huh. That's...good. I don't know what to feel about that.

I moved my attention towards the final part. The Quest

[QUEST]

[No available quest at the moment:(]

And it’s empty.

It's reasonable. I mean, I just got here.

‘Now how do I close this thing? Do I need to do something or -’

Before I could finish that sentence, the screen disappeared. Thanks, I guess.

With the system windows out of sight, I was again, alone. I didn’t call it out again; I just remained immobile for the time being. Everything just happened so fast. While I was kinda excited and thrilled about being one of the people that were isekai'd into another world.

The oddest thing I found in this whole situation is forgetting my name. Why couldn't I remember something so basic when memories of my hobbies were crystal clear?

Also, I can't seem to remember the faces of my parents, my friends, and the people I knew back home no matter how hard I try.

What did my mom and dad's hands feel like? Their smiles? Their love for me? All gone. I couldn't find a single clear trace of them in my memories.

I felt a pang of sadness dwell in my heart as I thought of that. If I could shed a tear, many would have fallen out by now.

My parents… I can never see them again.

I may not be the emotional type of person, but that realization hit deeper than I thought it would. I don't even know who transported me here. There has to be a god or unknown being responsible for that, right? Maybe a goddess or something like in mangas.

Where are they? Did they just drop me off with some parts of my memories erased and a system? Well, I certainly can't say that the system isn't useful; I mean, it's a cheat. I can't complain about that.

Taking a moment to gather my thoughts and my emotions in check, I focused on my current situation.

I'm a slime…

Reincarnated as a slime in another world.

So..yeah this is the first chapter of this story. So any comment, feedback, criticism, suggestions is very welcome
