Tevin's gaze swept across the crowd, met with thunderous cheers. For a fleeting moment, he closed his eyes, savouring the magnitude of the moment before revealing an LGBTQ flag from his pocket.
As he draped himself in the vibrant colours of the flag, a hush fell over the audience, anticipation hanging in the air. Then, like a tidal wave, applause erupted, filling the room with a symphony of appreciation. Tevin radiated an undeniable sense of pride, his authenticity shining through every fibre of his being. In that moment, Rehaan, though nervous, couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of joy.
Surrounded by their supportive friends, Duksh took the guitar from Tevin, a silent signal that it was his turn to speak. The audience and judges leaned in, eagerly awaiting Tevin's words as he firmly grasped the microphone, ready to share his truth.
Tevin's voice trembled as he spoke, his words carrying a mix of apology and determination. "Forgive me for my sudden outburst, but I refuse to apologize for being true to myself," he confessed, his gaze fixed upon Rehaan. With a deep breath, he turned his attention back to the crowd, his eyes filled with a newfound sense of purpose. "This is something I've always yearned for, a moment I've longed to seize. I am in love, deeply and unconditionally, and yes, it is with another man. My affection for him is akin to the way I cherish music, an integral part of who I am. I refuse to believe that my love is a mistake, for it has brought me immense joy and fulfilment. I am a person who craves love, the kind of love I have yearned for all my life. And finally, in my college days, I found someone who bestowed upon me a love like no other. His smile brightened my darkest days, and he showered me with a love I had never experienced before. And now, it is time for me to pursue the things that bring me happiness and fulfilment." Tevin's voice quivered with emotion as he spoke, his words resonating with the crowd.
"I once experienced the pain of losing him, and I never want to go through that again. That's why I am determined to hold on to this person no matter what happens". Tevin took a deep breath before speaking again, "Yes, I am gay and I have feelings for a boy. If my sexuality makes you hate me, that's okay as long as I have the support of those who care about me. Thank you, my friends, for always being there for me. I appreciate you all... Someone once told me that we can't change people's opinions. So, I will respect whatever my fans decide. But my passion for music and my love for my fans will always remain unchanged. I will continue creating music. Thank you for being a part of my journey so far. I love you all." As Tevin finished his heartfelt words, his friends gathered around him for a group hug on stage. They then turned to the audience, bowed, and walked off together.
Some fans in the crowd shouted, "Tevin, we love you!" Tevin turned around, surprised by the overwhelming support. The cheers for their band name grew even louder. Tevin was taken aback by the reaction, tears welling up in his eyes. The cameras focused on him as he gratefully placed his hands together in thanks. Rehaan, witnessing it all, couldn't help but feel overjoyed and wiped away his own tears.
After the performance, Tevin made his way backstage. Rehaan hurried over to him, and they embraced tightly. Tevin leaned his head on Rehaan's shoulder, feeling the love and support from his friend and bandmate. The other members of the band watched with smiles on their faces.
"You did amazing out there, Tevin," Rehaan said softly.
Tevin, his eyes still moist, replied, "I love you, Rehaan."
"I know. I love you too," Rehaan said, patting Tevin's head affectionately.
