Finally done with being a miner, my time served ended and I was released from the mines.

I moved back in with my father for now, but I was officially 18 as of a few months, thankfully I had some time served credited to my sentence from the cave in, not exactly a good trade in any stretch of the imagination in that regard.

But I was now tasked with choosing a job, so best to get on it today sometime.

After I arrived home, my father was surprised as I was early, a few month early, but very happy I was out.

He face twisted a bit at seeing the brand, I had noticed It was healing, likely to become almost nothing in the future, but I just brought the subject of working with him for a while, whilst I looked for a job.

He face beamed pride with that, extremely happy that I had asked and he wanted my input of some things.

The first thing he needed feedback on was a Medical device that could wrap around a persons arm and display information.

The whole thing was pretty much already complete but the design of it left much to be desired.

The bicep cuff was one design flaw, it should be able to read anywhere on an arm or leg, in cases where you can't use a patience arms or legs, you could use the other, or unroll the cuff to lay flat over the person chest, but this gave the data very slowly.

The next portion was the small screen that was attached to it, instead I replaced that with a small board that can connect into a tablet to allow the results to show on a tablet for easy of use.

This had already taken the designs of the device up a notch with dad helping, but I found that I wanted some of this in my Wrist device as well, I really need to come up with a name for it, but that can wait until I have rebuilt it with the health indicator.

Truthfully a lot of it was just making room in the casing, which I came to the decision it needed a new case, because not only did I want to include in the medical device that I had slimmed down a little, I wanted to include the wireless Receiver and Sender I had scrapped from a projector type of device that was broken.

There were a few things I wanted to also include, but some of them wouldn't work, Like a gun, I couldn't safely load ammo into the device without it losing the seal that protects the hardware inside, so no direct weapons.

As I was scrapping a broken tablet, I had the though to just include everything that would fit for it, as my device had a screen, storage, and transfer abilities like a tablet, might as well have a tablet on my arm.

As putting everything together, it was a bundle of wires with no casing as I still needed to make it, I had already scrapped my old casing for about 60% of the materials I would need, but wanting a bigger screen and more insulated metal for the outside, I got up and headed out to the scrap yard.

Arriving at the scrap yard, I saw the person running it. I hadn't been to the scrapyard yet, I had just gotten pieces from people while trading, but they always recommend I come here, so here I go.

"Name and Duration of search?" The old lady asked as I stepped up to her.

"I am Danial, but I don't know how long I would need, I haven't been in before."

The old lady just sighed "Almost nothing is sorted, normally later in the week it gets to be more sorted, but since a lot of it is newly thawed, it just in a pile. I would advise 1 hour and if you need more time, pay for it later."

"Ok, I will take two hours so I don't have to bother you as much." The old lady smiled at that but handed me a slip to sign.

"Signing this allows for 2 hours, and the pay will be deducted from your next pay, be it tomorrow, or in 10 years. We always collect, do you agree to this?"

"A little expensive, but I guess its because its all new items. Ok, should be fine." I signed the credit slip, it would equal to about 1/3 of a full 14 hour days pay. For 2 hours of looking through junk, so I needed to make sure I found something worth it.

Upon entering the yard, there was a huge pile, about 9 feet tall and 20 feet wide with everything from old clothes to a wooden chair.

I was digging for a little when I found an interesting item, just a bundled together set of books, they looks to be held together by hope, but I put them in my pile, and continued.

I found an old Heater, a lamp with a broken bulb, and old generator casing, but the engine in it was gone, and finally what appeared to be the screen from an old gas station pump.

I put it all in my pile, hoping to get a few more things, and notices it had been about an hour and 20 minutes, so I was hurrying.

After using up almost all of my remaining time, I found something I didn't expect, What appeared to be some kind of space helmet.

It had a hole in the glass and part of the back section was scorched as if it had been burnt up, but I already think I have a use for it.

Picking everything up, I made my way to the outside desk and made sure the old lady saw that I was leaving so I didn't get charged for more time.

"Ooh, I see you found something interesting! Thats a' Explorers helmet, looks like the circs are fried and theres a hole in the visor, but no doubt about it, should yield something good!"

"Explorer? Like the people that go out, why would they just leave this?"

"Who knows, like it was beyond repair." a little annoyed, she seemed to be waving me off now.

"Real quick, what does it take to get a full suit like this? Like even if its used, I like to tinker."

"Unless you take a class and get the job of being an explorer, you ain't getting one, simple as that. Almost no one wants to be an explorer, and anyone that does, will make sure they keep their only suit in working order."

"ahh, ok, well thank you for your time." I simply turn and start heading for home, thinking I might have found what to do.

When I got home, I broke a few of the items down, The heater and the lamp, as expected had a marble sized fire and electric stone in it, so they were useful, the heater, and the old generator casing had a ton of Insulated Metal so that would take care of my casing as well as little devices I found out were mana sensors likely to check for safe levels of mana going through the device, lastly I moved onto the Screen.

After checking it, the glass on the pump station screen was tempered and insulated thankfully, all I had to do was remove the old broken sign portion from it and slap a stripped new screen on it, the new screen was nearly twice as big as the previous one, so it was a definite upgrade there.

After setting everything up, and testing it, I decided to add a few more ports just incase I wanted to display to multiple devices, having ended up with 5 ports, with the main one able to support up to 12 displays, with the last 4 would be used for specific functions like transferring and receiving, a long Antenna that I wrapped around the device so that it would all fit in the casing, a mana sensor, so it could tell me how much mana I have and how much is being used, and finally a device that was nearly as big as the main board of the device, a small pure Mana Generator.

The pure mana generator can have mana injected into it to actually created electrical charge, so I would never have to plug my Wrist device up to charge it!

Ok, I am officially over calling it that, I need a name for it, I wanted it to be an acronym, I knew that for sure.

No one wants to end up saying something like "strategic homeland intervention enforcement logistics division" Every time, so I need something cool.

As I was building the case, I came up with a few but nothing was sticking, like DARC with it being Displayable Analog and Recreational Computer, or COD for Completely Origin Device.

The one I think fits it best is definitely PIRK, Personal Interface and Repository of Knowledge, so I guess its my Pirk now.

After finally getting his Pirk put back together, well more like put together for the first time, he was testing all that functions again when he noticed the books from earlier, so he took the stack to the table and began to look over it.

It was held together by a Leather/plastic strip, so he cut the strip and took the first book gently off the top of the stack.

Almost every page was ruined, but on some of the pages, he could make out some information, so he decided to scan the books with the new Pirk to test it, and the Images came out Clean and he was able to clear them up using software from the tablet portion of the pirk.

Most of the books had information like it was a story, but the start and end of the books were very worn and hard to discern, but after getting through all of the books, it looked like they books in the middle of the stack faired the best and they dealt in magical machines, explain theories of principles to why they work.

They would be useful later, with this on top of being able to think how things are built, I may be able to push my devices further in the future and not have to rely solely on the Tech portion.

I had been using the ability very sparingly, since if you thought of something to broadly, it would cause headaches, but I have been building it up as a tolerance, first thinking how something is made that is simple, like Glass.

The simplest answers I was looking for caused it to just show "Heat Sand to 1700 degrees" Which was very useful in the sense that was the answer I was looking for.

I knew I couldn't process sand myself, but knowing that I can think a certain way, to have it give me simple answers instead made me use it more while I was tinkering to do things like, Know if there would be an issue Shortening or Lengthening a wire, Using a component in series for another component, or even something as simple as cooking, as I was technically making something.

That had turned out both great, and horrible in the past so I had avoided it. The cake I followed to the Letter came out great in shape, but the taste was not something that it had accounted for, I would have to think like "How to make a cake that looks like this, and to make sure it was tasting like this" and give references like that, which is honestly more difficult then you would think.

But using this ability, I got more use to it, and now I was using it on something I don't know how to make to see if it can help.

The helmet sat in front of me, I tried thinking of how it was made, but there were missing patches of information, like "The glass is made like this and the middle layer of *.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.**.* Can be formed using the *.**.**.**.**.**.**.* and attached to the visor portion of the headgear railing." So I know the parts that would fit from my old world.

I end up stopping there and went to talk with my dad, He wasn't happy when I brought up being an Explorer, saying stuff like, you have a great mind, you don't need to risk it out there.

But honestly, some of the stuff I had found in the scrap yard, made me want to be the one to look for this stuff.

I found out the classes you have to take can take up to a year to pass, but they would be starting up next month, so my dad at least agreed that I can sign up for the class and if I decided to change my mind, I can always not go to the class.

I ended up finding books of the classes and getting started early, it was simple stuff for two of the three classes, just basic survival techniques for surviving on a frozen world up top, and the fauna we may see up there.

The last class had to do with what materials to looks for, what materials to try and avoid, and the fact that I can keep a part of what I bring back for myself, but the list was extremely long, it will certainly take some time to memorize it.

Just hearing that I can go out and scrap directly for items and materials I need means I will have no limit to resources and can really enjoy going full mad scientist in the future!
