Victoria was a girl with a bright future. Often overshadowed by her sister, and kind of put aside by her mother, she lived a quiet but comfortable life without anything to worry about until a genetic disease took hold of her body. For ten years she fought this disease until her body gave up the fight. Accepting her death with welcoming arms, it turns out Lady Death is more merciful than she thought, as she wakes up inside an abandoned laboratory, free to roam the galaxy to her heart's content.

So of course she goes directly back home to see how different things are here in this weird afterlife she's been gifted! Can't go wrong with what's already familiar after all.
