Ranna, a storyteller from District Eleven, has no such grand aspirations. More interested in music and stories than politics, she does her civic duty of reporting to the Capital with her peers on her twenty-fifth year. There has never been a doubt that she would spend the next few months getting tested and collecting tales before returning home to her extended family.

When all her dreams and expectations are crushed with blood and gore, Ranna resolves to die as beautifully as the heroines in her tragic poetry. For rather than living the glamorous life of a werewolf’s mate, Ranna chooses to live and die on her terms. Yet is everything really as black and white as she believes it to be?
