For Mishka, light years are like miles, and the endless expanse of new worlds, primitive aliens, and monsters offer a colourful and vibrant distraction to the home she can never return to, the people who will never stop chasing her, and the deep gnawing loneliness in her heart that she does her best to smother in sweets and amusing diversions.

The barren asteroid filled with the ruins of a civilisation perhaps even older than her own is just the latest in a long line of curiosities to wander through on her journey without end. However, on that lonely rock she finds more than just an archaeological expedition with charmingly primitive magitek. Lying in the shadows of those ruins is something older than the eldest star, colder than the deepest reaches of space, and more malevolent than the most bloodthirsty of her own people.
