Callis Vale ran away from a gilded cage to become a frontier hero. The frontier answered by beating him half to death in the mud.
Hartsgate is a brutal trade town on the edge of the Green March, a place that survives by turning danger into coin. It has no use for noble blood, polished manners, or expensive education. Out here, a boy who can’t hold a spear, read a contract, or survive the road is just another future casualty.
Broke, freezing, and dangerously out of his depth, Callis survives his first days not through talent or destiny, but through the women who actually keep Hartsgate alive: the innkeeper whose husband drinks away the profits, the armorer whose skill is treated like a commodity, the clerks, traders, and widows who hold the town together while the men around them rot, rage, or die.
At first, their attention buys him only what he needs most: shelter, food, advice, and a reason to keep going. But in a town built on interlocking systems, intimacy is never just intimacy. Every bed hides a secret. Every marriage conceals a fracture. Every woman Callis wins trust from gives him access to another corner of Hartsgate’s real power.
What begins as survival turns into something far more dangerous. Callis is no longer just bedding lonely wives—he is building a network inside the town’s kitchens, forges, shrines, and counting rooms. And as the monsters of the Elderforest press closer and suspicious husbands begin to notice, the web keeping him alive may be the same one that gets him killed.
This is a complete edit of my original review. In the original review I said that I really enjoyed this novel and overall this was an excellently written story with strong character and world development. The only complaint I had was a short scene where the main character was, in my opinion, unjustly punished by his harem for bringing another woman into the harem despite two of the three cheating on their husbands to be a part of said harem. It felt gross in my opinion.
After reading one of the Authors other stories I returned to this one to skip past the punishment play and continue reading and man, lemme tell ya, its still excellently written. The characters have gotten better and better, the storyline has me excited to see what happens next, the world building is excellent! Which is why I am so f**king confused as to why the author decided to start 3 separate stories all taking place in the same shared universe but only this story can really stand on its own. His other two stories in the same universe are, in a word, awful. They don't have the excellent character development or world building this story has. In fact its a struggle to even get through the dialog in both the other series. Granted one of them has just started with only 15ish chapters but man, I am so confused as to why the author felt this was a good idea.
This particular novel in the shared universe can stand on its own, your not required to read the other two to understand what's going on or the concepts and rules of the world we find ourselves in. The other two series in this universe do NOT share the same independence which is why I've stuck with this particular novel and dropped the other two. I absolutely do recommend this novel for anyone looking for a good harem novel with fresh ideas and solid character development.
Also please note that while this story is indeed a harem there are slight poly elements. There are a few smut scenes where two of the harem members have s*x with each other without the main character being directly involved. Not a deal breaker by any means but its definitely worth noting for those who might be adverse to such things.
Thank you.

Love the story! A noble who forgoes his privileged life for the taste of adventure only to realize the price of reality but in doing so, meets several gorgeous women who have been forgotten, neglected or simply have never been looked at for what they truly are. Very smut heavy which I love and the characters all feel alive and present, the imagery and story are great and I look forward to reading a new chapter every time, go ahead and read it! Im sure you wont be disappointed! 😊😊😊
