Tanaka Ken wasn't supposed to die. He was supposed to live a normal life, graduate from a not–too–shabby university, find a normal job, marry a woman or perhaps a man, have kids or perhaps adopt one, retire in his fifties and die from old age.

Tanaka Ken, was supposed to be a background character, for all intent and purposes.

The Gods have already written his destiny after all; They planned for him to die at the old age of 75 when sitting outside one afternoon at exactly 3:25 PM as he fondly stared at his grandchildren playing baseball when he suddenly felt an unknown force, tugging at his chest, beckoning his withered mortal soul to submit to Death's embrace as he would have had a heart attack right then and there.

But all that went downhill when the Devil was bored and grinned in crystal madness at the unassuming mortal when he was currently 16 years old, He swept his hand and played with the strings of Fate and Time, causing Tanaka Ken to die a premature death. The Devil took a look at the mortal soul in his impossibly large hands, and thought, yes, this human would entertain Him and His subjects for quite some time.
