The story follows the adventures of Tatsuya, a wandering swordsman who was thrust into a destiny he never wanted. He was one of the Hunters, avatars of the mighty nine-tailed fox Ina. It was their destiny to liberate the world from the wicked hands of Ina’s disciples who betrayed her, known as the Yako. To do this, each Hunter was bestowed a magical weapon imbued with Ina’s essence. Tatsuya however wanted no part in this quest due to the loss of his best friend. But everything changed that fateful night when he was forced to save an old storyteller.

Together with the other Hunters, Tatsuya would join the Onryo, a rebel faction with the purpose of liberating the land. They would go on many adventures, systematically defeating the Yako clans one by one. If that wasn't enough, they had to face fearsome yokai on several occasions. These victories would lay the foundation of what would become the Okami Shisen, Ina's clan reformed.

But when freedom was within his reach, the true puppet master would appear to challenge Tatsuya. An unexpected betrayal would test our hero's resolve, making go through the greatest challenge of his life. Can Tatsuya overcome seemingly impossible odds?
