While I've tried to keep it at a minimum, this glossary contains spoilers for the story.
Ex history teacher for the high school. He loves hiking, but mostly he likes Cathy Carlyle, his best friend and co-worker for his entire tenure at the high school they both worked at. Problem is, Cathy is gay and while he knows their relationship can never move forward, he still holds a flame for her in his heart.
He retired a few years early to care for his ailing little brother, Art. But he’s recently come back to town with Art in tow after he learned of the artifact’s misuse, his mysterious connection to the artifact (a trophy from the turn of the last century) driving him back to investigate the situation.
Math teacher for the high school. A kind and personable teacher, she’s best friends with Matthew Johnson.
She’s known for her cat rimmed eyeglasses. No one knows who first started the nickname “cat” for her, but everyone keeps using it year after year.
A minor “bully” of Tyler’s. To hear Tyler tell the story, he’s a scourge who threatened violence, so Tyler would do his math homework for him. To hear him tell it, he traded math homework for protection from Sid. He saw how badly he tormented Tyler and attempted to find a way of helping, though he did it very clumsily.
The actual bully for Tyler. Physically large and unreasonably strong, he’s prone to violent outbursts and flares of anger, which he readily acts on. When not outright angry at the world and everyone around him, he’s prickly and often rude and sarcastic.
He won’t admit it even if you had some power over him, but he’s lonely.
The history teacher who took Matthew’s old job. She’s still young for a teacher but is well liked, even though she comes off as stern, and good at her job. She’s willing to go to bat for her students, even if it means standing up to her new boss on the first day of school.
Boss man of the organization Marissa works for. He acts behind the scenes, organizing jobs for people like Marisa to find and retrieve all forms of magical artifacts.
The youngest member of a mysterious organization that's collecting artifacts with magical power.
Little is known about her, but she's an invaluable resource for her work that uses her talents to steal artifacts for her boss.
A by-the-books principal with a personal distaste for anything that goes against the norm. Caves when significantly pressured, but otherwise won’t bend on anything, even if he acknowledges that it’s unfair.
Eris' family. She is uncomfortable talking about them, even to Tyler.
She's not sure what happened to them, or even if they're on Earth still.
Tyler’s dad. Died in an accident when Tyler was young. Tyler doesn’t remember much about him. To Christine, he was a gentle man with impressively strong emotions he wasn’t afraid to show. To everyone else, he was a calm and competent man, though a bit hard to approach. He was fiercely protective and loving of his family to the very end.
Eldest sister to Matthew and Art Johnson. Died when Art was still very little.
Matthew Johnson's old teacher.
