Synopsis

You ever play the game, The Long Dark?

GO play it. It is by hinterland games. It is an AWESOME game, if you like frozen, FPS survival games. The focus is on survival. It is a harsh game where you are the last surviving man or woman on a frozen earth after the sun goes crazy and destroys all technology with continuous EMP bursts. It is like wandering a beautiful watercolor painting that periodically tries to murder you.

I absolutely loved the game.

I put in over 2000 hours and survived with one character for 1000 days. I put in a mod that stopped the earth from rotating so the sun never rose again and it got down to -100 degrees Celsius. It is one of the few games where the harder you make it, the more fun it is. Well, it is for me.

So I started writing a story from the point of view of my character. There is one building that is the HARDEST base to have. The Quonset Garage. It is surrounded by violence, but if you are good with a bow, it is actually surrounded by MEAT. The saying in the game goes, The wolves want to eat you, the bears want to kill you, but the moose want you to SUFFER.

The Quonset Garage has all three.

But as I wrote the story, it evolved and changed and became sort of philosophical collection of musings. The Origin Of The Quonset Manager became a sort of Eldritch Horror story over time with all sorts of things and ideas and concepts. There is a reason the story took such a dark turn which I explain half way through, but in this version, I will move why I wrote the story to the end. It is a bit dated, but I want you to get the full effect. I won't edit the story. I am including it, errors and all, as is.

However, the story also has a number of, shall we say, Foundational Myths of the Eldritch-Verse.

When you read this I want you to look at it from the point of view as if you were a traveler. A transmigrator bouncing through life after life, traveling through a strange and bizarre cosmos, just trying to figure out what is going on in the bigger picture. Then, you find this collection of papers. They seem to be i no particular order, but what you DO know is, the local government is trying very hard to destroy every copy of this collection.

Someone doesn't want the truth known.

And so, having visited a number of shady and unusual bookstores, you find a copy of this... manuscript. he person selling it simply explains it is cursed and that you shouldn't take it. When you insist, he asks what you are willing to pay and takes it without haggling. Upon you paying the agreed upon price, he immediately pushed you out the door, turns the sign around to read, 'CLOSED', and turns off the light. You retire to the home of your most recently occupied body and find a quiet spot to consume your newly acquired prize. As you read, at first it seems to be nothing more than the ramblings of a madman, but over time, he reveals knowledge that, simply put...

He should not have.
