Shafir is the protagonist of the story. He is the Vice-Captain of the Slentis Empire Knights 1st Division. Shafir was taken in and sponsored by the House of Honors to become a knight when he was young but he has grown into a full-fledged knight on his own merits. He also hates his captain with a burning passion or so that's what he thinks. The one thing keeping Shafir from actually growing close to Eliqinor is a curse that was placed on him a long time ago while he was still a squire. Shafir found it would be better to push those away from him than bring the downfall of those around him. 

Name Meaning: He who is loved

Eliqinor is the Captain of the Slentis Empire Knights 1st division and Shafir's superior. Shafir is always picking fights with him and so he returns it in kind. He is the eldest brother of ten children and the nephew of the House of Honors leader. He has always been a strong and morally righteous man but he seems to lose his cool whenever a particular half-dark elf is around. This is mostly because he is in love with Shafir but assumes the other hates him. Eliqinor is also a skilled archer who has a talent for bow magic.

Name meaning: Northern Storm

Valneiros is a knight from the House of Rites. Valneiros is a skilled healer and sealing magic. Some of his work requires him to travel a lot and help seal monsters or curses. He is also drinking buddies with Eliqinor and Katar. His family is originally from Shepan Empire which is home to the wood elves. His mother and father are skilled herbalists that came to teach some skills to Slentis healers. 

Name meaning: Closely chosen rest

Katar is a ranger from the House of Choices. He is known for his skill with a bow, not even Eliqinor could outshoot him. Though he is a master archer, his skill with bow magic is even more skilled than most. This is uncommon for House of Choices members because most of them end up becoming spell swords or mages. He is well known for providing support to his team by using his bow magic to buff his allies' defenses. He is friends with Valneiros as both of their families met in a caravan on the way to Slentis. He is a sun and loves to hang out with friends. 

Name meaning: Cheerful and merry

The Empress of Slentis Empire is known for her cold demeanor and cutthroat bargaining tactics. Though Shafir would say otherwise as he knows the Empress as a lovesick fool. The Empress is often lighthearted and bubbly around Shafir to the point that she actually can annoy him. If anything the Empress acts like an older sister to him and can be overbearing about his love life. She is also the one who makes sure the two men are always teamed up together for most missions. She also has her own lover which is a human woman. 

Name meaning: Grand Blood

Orpha is a human woman who was wooed by Empress Aila. She lives in a small cottage outside of the Slentis Empire where she is visited by Empress Aila whenever she gets a chance. They met when she was being bullied by some other women because she was sick at the time and people assumed she would spread disease. The Empress saw this and came to her defense, thus they became lovers after a lot of talking. She knows of Shafir but she doesn't really have an opinion on him as Empress Aila does. Her mother died at birth and she was raised by servants.

A squire who often runs errands for Shafir.

The young master of House of Choices. He is a knight that often talked to Eliqinor when they were squires.

A former Prince of Slentis Empire.

The Dark Elf Prince of the Lutus Empire.

Name meaning: Not yours to heed

Slentis Empire is the original home of the High Elves. When the mother gave birth to the first high elves, they ended up residing here. A matriarchal society runs the Empire. The current Empress of Slentis is Aila, a young woman who was often a thorn in Shafir's side when he was a young knight. 

The Grand Duchy of Toterra is a small country off the side of Cophate. The country is a cold desert that is connected to the ocean and has become the home to many selkies. They are very well-known for their quality of fish and is a commonplace for tourism, even with the cold climate.
