Synopsis

In "Apocalypse Islands," a diverse group of survivors find themselves inexplicably transported to a series of remote tropical islands, cut off from the rest of the world. Struggling to comprehend their new reality, they must face the harsh challenges of this savage environment while striving to adapt and survive.

As the survivors explore their surroundings, they discover a mysterious system which connects all living beings in this universe and offers them a range of unique abilities and skills. With the System's guidance, they embark on a journey of growth and self-discovery, navigating through quests and challenges to gain experience, resources, and new capabilities.

The islands harbor hidden secrets and treasures, scattered amidst perilous landscapes and unpredictable wildlife. From the lush tropical forests to the pristine beaches, the survivors must gather essential resources, hunt for food, and construct shelters to protect themselves from the elements and the lurking dangers.

Max Parker, a diligent civil engineering student, finds himself inexplicably transported to a remote tropical island. Struggling to comprehend his new reality, Max must navigate the challenges of this savage environment using his intellect and newfound abilities. With the aid of the System, he embraces the path of a Necro Engineer, combining dark arts, engineering, and programming to command the forces of the undead and create autonomous constructs. Max seeks answers, forges alliances, and strives to uncover the mysteries of the islands while unraveling his own inner strength, ability to delegate, and potential.

Status: chapter 7: upgrades and more upgrades!

I really want to like this story. It has some fairly interesting concepts in its system, and it is very well written, which is weird for what this story actually is.

What this story is, is one of those Chinese-ish death survival games, where supposedly the entire population of the world is transitioned into separate locations and now must survive on minimal resources. The ones where missing 1-2 meals panics half the population into letting themselves be essentially mugged, and the protagonist, due to whatever their advantage is, is overflowing with just the right resources to do the mugging. Just that in this story, there is no real competition to stay alive, thus no massive deaths every 2 seconds.

If you enjoy those style stories, this will be perfect for you, might even be more enjoyable than the  usual stories of this style, because this is, as I said previously, a very well written story when it comes to spelling, grammar, and all that (how well written it is when it comes to that stuff is boosting my overall rating by probably 1 to 1.5 stars by itself).

Things I like about this story:

    • Grammar and spelling and all that are very good.
    • MC's class, and the ones he could have picked, and the implications of what other people might have found, have potential to be very interesting compared to bog standard classes.
    • How the MC uses his class.

Now, why I can't get myself to like this story.

    • The MC is a whiny, lazy, spoiled brat. I wouldn't normally have an issue with this, but this MC, basically spends half his first day sun bathing on a beach, while his minions gather stuff--which is fine, he is putting his class to work--then spends at most 2 hours walking to his desired base location, all while spouting off about efficiency, and once he is there and setup, he complains about his physical exertions. He literally just walked a bit, and handwaved some stuff. No chopping trees, carrying stuff, picking up stuff or even fighting, just walking for a bit and waving his hands to collect stuff off the ground, and the hand waving collection was because he was bored. If he really cared about efficiency, he should have been doing the hand waving the entire time he was relaxing on the beach.
    • MC gets literally everything he could ever need, basically handed to him at no effort. He didn't even have to overcome anything to get the stuff either. At least usually in this style of story, even if the MC is cheating, usually there is an element of potential risk, or the MC has to go through some hoops to get what he desires. Here, nope, by the evening of day 1, he has gathered enough resources to be secure in his base, and yet he can trade his excess food for all the goodies to reinforce his base to the point that he'll probably never need to actually leave it.
    • The main issue I always have with these stories is the suspension of disbelief in these stories. If we are to believe that all of humanity that we are aware of has transitioned to another world, with some system applied, and as far as we know, humans haven't really changed much yet, and the situation imposed is a SURVIVAL situation, and like 12 hours in, half the population is "starving" to death enough to give up the stuff that could ensure their survival for a simple meal (which does not include cooking said meal, or any fluids, which would be way more critical), then something is messed up in the premise. If they are in this state, then WHY are they in this state? Is the system penalizing them for not eating a meal every hour? Did the transition set everyone to a half starved/dehydrated state?
