Science fiction is full of alien assimilators: the Thing, the Borg, Tyranids and the Zerg are examples. This story tells what happens when an assimilating alien runs into a human trans woman and the conversations they have back and forth. That's pretty much all of it, two very different characters trying to understand each other and it works really well. Would the risk of being assimilated be worth a transition? And can an assimilating alien learn to understand the need for self identity? The only thing that I find a downside is that it's over all too soon.
