Riley, a human orphan with a rough background, is suddenly adopted by a family of skunk anthros much to her surprise. Past trauma, their vast differences, and initially mixed reception from some family members combine for a bumpy start of her new life, but they're all surmountable, and what awaits afterwards is worth all the struggle in the world.
Slice of Life story in a setting with humans and anthro animals coexisting. Major themes include overcoming differences, recovering from trauma, and embracing vulnerability. New chapters on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Good introspective novel dealing with loss, acceptance and family without delving too deep into those matters. Somewhat cute, somewhat heartwarming, and balanced as all things should be.
The only reason I'm not rating this a 5 is because every single character urgently needs speech therapy. They all suffer from stuttering (a-a-almost in ev-v-very ch-ch-chapter!) and world-pervading verbal tics (hah, heh and teehee send their regards).
