I did not know whether I was reading the first chapter of some epic, or if this was a one-shot. It's a one-shot. Well, short as it is, I was happy with it.
The writing is good – grammatically correct and with some style, while the story is strongly structured. The characters are well met, if only briefly, and they are all unique, if a little strange. The story ends with a plot twist that wraps things up rather neatly while subverting expectations – which is quite a trick, when writing a piece with so few words. It would not be fair to ask for more in a story this short! Top marks.
I guess I don't need to wait for chapter 2. I suppose there could be a sequel, if they wanted...
