Wan Yu, or Immortal Chen Xi.
The only disciple of Immortal Master Ning Shan, he died at age 36 after the Frozen Dragon Sect gave him up to the righteous faction and he committed suicide on his personal jian Silvergrass.
He seems to have been travelling for quite some time by age 19, saying that he has been on the road since age 15. Traveled with Yun Zisu for 2 months a few years back.
Claims to have a newborn nephew from his Lan-jiejie.
Very good friends with Yun Zisu.
Ye Xiyang, the Supreme Leader of the Frozen Dragon Sect
After Wan Yu's suicide at his sect grounds, he went back in time to learn more about the man and the pearl he'd handed over on his last day.
He does not appear to be actively malevolent, though his full intentions and motivations for pursuing the mystery of the pearl are still unclear. After spending time with Wan Yu, any malevolence on his part seems to have dissipated, having been replaced with fondness instead. He has returned the pearl to Wan Yu with an apology, and his intentions seem to be so that Wan Yu can do with his second chance in life as he sees fit.
His right and left hand men in the Frozen Dragon Sect are Ru Ge and Shi Ma.
Yun Zisu was the one who entered Wan Yu into the Vermilion Sun-hosted nighthunt that made Wan Yu famous.
She plays an erhu, White Sound, and her playing is said to be especially pure in sound. Her sword and style are the standard Vermilion Sun Sect.
11 years old girl Wan Yu and Ye Xiyang "kidnapped" from the forest. Though she has a sharp mouth and sour disposition, she seems to still be a young, scared girl. Now she joins Wan Yu in his travels.
Currently in possession of Ye Xiyang's umbrella.
Wan Ji, or Immortal Master Ning Shan
Wan Yu's shifu who was known for his righteousness and patient temperament. Wan Yu fondly remembers him as someone who loved and spoiled him.
He collected various demonic weapons in his life with the intent to destroy them, but it was unknown how many exactly had been destroyed. One known weapon was Fallen Morning Star, the sabre of the third Sect Master of Demonic Harmony Sect, which was dispersed 19 years ago and caused over three weeks of rain.
Ru Ge, or Yue Ge
Ye Xiyang's right hand man and the information-handler and spymaster of the Frozen Dragon Sect. Seemed to be somewhat close to Ye Xiyang. This was confirmed as Ye Xiyang reveals that Ru Ge was assigned his confidant from an early age, along with Shi Ma. Ru Ge appeared to be the one to have taught him manners and tea ceremonies.
An extreme yin man (referred to within Frozen Dragon Sect as winter-ascending), they do not seem to firmly identify as a man and often would refer to themselves as Yue Ge.
Among their skillset are medicine and poisons, both of which are taught by a wandering cultivator that specialized in herbs who'd passed by the sect years ago. Ye Xiyang mentioned that he had paid for the entire thing himself, though at that point he wasn't yet the Supreme Leader. It had cost a sum of gold taels, but Ye Xiyang deemed it worth the money.
Shi Ma, the Red Wolf of Supreme Leader Ye
Ye Xiyang's left hand woman. She seemed to be in charge of the dirty work on location, be it wrecking havoc on other sects or assassinations, and was the one dispatched to watch over Wan Yu during his stay at the Frozen Dragon Sect. When Ye Xiyang was 30, she, under his orders, assassinated the leader and top stratum of Three Tenets Sect.
An extreme yang body woman. She seemed to be focused singly on martial arts and strategies to take down demonic faction sects, as her reports on Wan Yu's activities are... rather simplistic.
Shi Ma's disciple.
Yun Zisu's shimei. She seems a bit shy, though it might be only with people she's unfamiliar with, or perhaps just Wan Yu.
After the stunt she pulled to enter the space with Ye Xiyang and Ru Ge, she was punished by Vermilion Sun Sect. However, what this punishment entails is still a mystery to Yun Zisu.
Ru Ge's primary disciple and related to Shi Ze. Does not seem to like Wan Yu very much, but not quite physically aggressive.
Wields daggers, but not the best at close-range combat, it seems. One of her weapons is a xiao.
Has yet to appear, mentioned by Ye Xiyang, Shi Ze and Xue Ying as the candidate future Supreme Leader that the latter two are training to serve. Seems to be still currently a boy.
TBA
Wan Yu's personal jian, with silver tassel. Glows white. Normal undecorated leather scabbard, simple leather-wrapped hilt.
Currently the full extents of its powers is unknown, other than being Wan Yu's chopping axe and floating torch.
Ye Xiyang's personal sword. Its characteristics is currently unknown, though he seems to have used it to cut a hole back in time.
The pommel had the likeness of a slumbering dragon and the hilt had detailed engravings, while the blade seemed to shimmer just under the surface. Deep blue scabbard.
Immortal Master Ning Shan, or Wan Yu's shifu's, personal jian. Its powers are currently unknown. Wan Yu wonders if it's also a merged sword.
Jian style used by the vast majority of Vermillion Sun Sect members. Has a relatively wide blade indicative of cutting-focused use, with very slight profile taper. It has a decorated crossguard that stretched back to the pommel, forming a knuckle-guard. Its pommel is ring-shaped, a style seen historically in daos used by Han cavalries, which was chosen for symbolic reasons. The guard and pommel are made of brass.
A paper umbrella Ye Xiyang carries around. So far he has used it as a channeling instrument to draw talisman runes in the air, and some properties of it seem to allow him to either remain undetected or be ignored by undeads. No further uses of it is yet known.
The paper fan Ye Xiyang regularly carries on his person. He uses it to conjure cold air. Can turn into a white whip that also releases cold air.
Yun Zisu's erhu. Specially made for purification purposes, it has a clear, haunting sound.
A metal staff created before the last jianghu upheaval, made by a righteous hero to fight Ten Nights Sect, a now-extinct cult built on a burial mound. Channels resentment into lightning. After being lost for a century, it resurfaced ever so often, and was especially coveted by Thousand Edges School. Was collected by Immortal Master Ning Shan to be destroyed, but he died before it could be done and thus was passed down to Wan Yu.
Due to both its age and power, it has developed sentience, though the extent of its ability to exert its free will is currently unknown. It seems to be able to manifest a human form.
Currently in Wan Yu's ownership.
A common tool within the Frozen Dragon Sect, constructed using the special metal of the Slumbering Dragon Mountain. Good with pinpointing sources of strong yin or yang energies, though but requires modification to sense resentment or spiritual energy.
Yun Zisu's standard Vermilion Sun Sect jian.
The division between the two factions became clean and clear-cut roughly 600 years before the start of the story. 100 years later, a war between the various sects broke out, marking another jianghu upheaval that will set the stage for the future. The reason for the division and war is not yet known.
Known sects are:
Righteous Faction
is regulated by the Wulin Council.
Demonic Faction
TBA
A very rich righteous faction sect. Large enough to have an inner and outer gate and several branches; some derisively (and perhaps rightfully) call its outer gate enrollment its biggest source of income.
