Feared and hated by the outside world, they created a stronghold to develop their medicines and amass their power. Today, Linnaeans from all over the continent live in the City of Mendel and train under the renowned Professor Corax, a brilliant and eccentric geneticist.

Just before her eighteenth birthday, Ember is diagnosed with the affliction. Suddenly, instead of moving into her dorms and studying with the brightest in the country, she is whisked off to the City of Mendel by government officials who are as scared of her as she is of them. As she contends with a new city and her own treatment, she'll also have to face the tension of the half-baked treaty between the Linnaean people and the outside world.

There's no doubt - life won't be easy in a city where the population is able to harness the abilities (and instincts) of animals.

A humble standard bearer risks their life to accomplish an impossible task and is rewarded with lifetime service to the Crown of Volk and its soon-to-be wearer, one Freya Foxway. It's a long way to have come for an orphan raised by the proprietor of a bar in the seedier parts of Sokarin, but the gods' favour is always earned and this soldier will not yet reach Valhalla. After all, they still have work to do.

While this is fanfiction for Warhammer 40k/Warhammer: the Horus Heresy (it’s a whole thing ask about it at your own risk), I like to think that prior knowledge of the universe is not required for full enjoyment. If you'd like to learn more about something I mention ask about it in the comments!

The idea for this story came from datashards in cp77 (See: Cyberpsycho Sightings: Smoke on the Water) and while I was at it I added a missfired isekai in there. I'm trying to find a way to have MC become OP without any system or magic bs, let me know how well you think I managed. When/if I eventually get there. I think I struggle with balancing environment descriptions and moment to moment acts with moving along the story in a timely fashion. Again, please do leave feedback.
Quick disclaimer: I'm not going to write smut in this. Writing gore I'm fine with, but actually writing any details about said tragic fate that I am teasing will not happen.
