Since departing from the Hyrule region of the great sea a year earlier, Link, Tetra, and the crew of The Shrewd Scout have found themselves adrift. Their seemingly simple task of finding a new land for their people to settle had now proved to seem insurmountable.

Circumstances only worsen, as Tetra disappears after boarding a strange ship, and Link fails to save her. Washed ashore on an unfamiliar, Link is now separated from Tetra, the crew, and his family.

As my headcanon attempts to reconcile the canon in all of the gaps and room for imagination in the game's presentation of the overall storylline, I incorporate my headcanon and also desire to present the story in raw reading material for it to be friendly for readers who are unfamiliar with the fandom. So, I have taken a rather untraditional approach to the story.

"A Shade of Time" captures the events of the return of the hero to Hyrule after his maddening adventure in Termina, Ganondorf's invasion of Hyrule, and the fall of the hero in becoming the 'shade'. Moreover, the tale continues to follow the 'shade' into the extending events of "Twilight Princess"

While my work contributes effort to reconcile the gap in the canon betwixt the events of "Majora's Mask" and "Twilight Princess", this is also my headcanon. It's typical for readers to have their own headcanon (and that's fine and I applaud that), but please show common courtesy in allowing respect for mine.

And while I'm always open to hear critiques and constructive criticism in reviews, I would advise to remember that there is a fine line between "valid" criticism and encroaching on another writer's style. (In other words, please feel free to advise on some aspects of my writing, but don't overreach in telling me with an authoritative tone how I should write. It's rude, to simply state it.)

That being said, please don't hesitate in giving an honest reaction and feedback to the story. And know this that such feedback is regarded as data which is simply taken 'with a grain of salt' as ultimately the matter is reserved to my own discernment. <<less

Even though Hyrule is lost to them, they still cling to old traditions. And after all these years, the era without a hero will finally end.
