Chap 1
~•~
The water continues to flow down stream of the river. It's clear and calm, slow and steady. The reflection of my childish, round face is almost perfectly still. I turn my eyes to scan the small river, spotting no basket floating on the surface.
It's not the time yet. I sighed.
It's been a year since I started coming in to this river, waiting for a basket which will contain a baby infant inside for me to save. How long should I have to wait for that baby?
I don't know.
I turned around to leave the mountain down back to the small village where I live. Tomorrow I will come back at exact the same time and wait for an hour for that baby to appear. I will have to do this everyday, nonstop, so I don't have to miss the chance of saving that baby. After all, according to the novel I once read in the internet before, that baby is gonna be one of the key characters in the story.
How did I know that? Well...
I was originally a woman living on Earth, but because of a plane accident which caused my death, I've been reincarnated into a world that's different from Earth, and that world is actually inside a novel; The Tale of Morinzina Kingdom.
I don't know how did I get reincarnated inside a novel, but all I know is that I woke up in a three year old child's body after my death. It has been a year since then, hasn't it?
Knowing the contexts and events that will happen in the distant future, I decided to act on my own and try to change the flow of the story to save myself and my newly obtained humble parents from the troubles we can't afford to have.
Which brings me back to the small river up the mountain.
The baby inside the basket will grow to become a powerful and influential lad, and he'll be later known as Ellios of the South, someone who will be the main figurehead to an uprising rebellion in the south.
When he turns fourteen in the future, he will be named as Ellios de Alcantara, the youngest son of His Majesty the King, and will be titled as the Crown Prince, the legitimate heir to the throne. With the support of the people in the south and his right to the throne, Ellios is undeniably the hardest person to overthrow during the fight for the throne.
Ellios is the last villain that the main character has to beat in the end.
However, the most important thing about him, at least for me, is the fact that he has an older royal sister in the palace.
Eclaire de Alcantara, the most beloved princess in the palace and extremely doted on by the King. Her special place in the King's heart is something that's widely known by the entire kingdom, and as such she's one of the most important and popular royal member that everyone looks up to.
In the future, when she grows up, Eclaire will be the most beautiful woman in the kingdom, blessed by a type of beauty that will cause devastation in kingdoms and worshipped by the mortals.
Combined with her beauty, the Princess is gifted with an almost endless amount of mana supply, which makes her an inevitable powerful Summoner in the continent, someone who can wield magic as freely as the magical beings.
She will be titled as Princess Liliya, the purest royalty in the family.
And I want to meet her.
Why? Let's just say that I want to see how beautiful the Princess truly is.
In the original novel, the Princess is the female lead who becomes one of the reasons for the kingdom's near collapse. It's not only because of her devastating beauty, but also because of her strong sense of justice. She will attract many men's attention and some of them, if not all, are a bunch of bewitched idiots who are willing to destroy themselves and the kingdom for the Princess.
Hypothetically speaking, if I let the original story ran its course without me enterrupting, then us common folks will suffer the most. Especially the people of the south, which is where I've been reborn to.
Courtesy of Ellios's rebellion campaign...
The main character, Hiyas Chalistine, will naturally have his own share of damning the common folks specifically in the south.
Let's just say the south is a doomed place.
But I won't let that happen, at least until I get myself and my parents out of here.
Prince Ellios will be kidnapped by a bad guy and abandoned by the river to be left on his fate. Some random family will find and save him, which is when his villainous way of rising to the throne will start.
I can't let the original story happen either.
Ellios will be my ticket straight to the palace, and assuming that His Majesty won't accuse me of kidnapping a royalty and kill me on the spot, I can ride behind Ellios's royal horse to meet his famous royal big sister. From there, I will start devising my plans in accordance to future consequences, save my own neck and my parent's, and maybe enjoy a few bits of drama at first hand.
The main character, Hiyas Chalistine, is a very intriguing guy. If it's not for the fact that he's the male lead, he'd be a perfect villain who's more dangerous than Ellios. That's just saying how decisive and scheming he is. His only goal is to succeed the throne, and nobody can stop him for that.
My only goal is to guide Ellios to the right path, teach him how to become a good leader, help him succeed the throne, and live a leisurely life enjoying his riches like a parent riding her child's success.
The Princess's goal is to fix the mess in the palace, clean it and get rid of the dirt that destroys the balance between the noblemen and commoners. Basically, she wants peace, justice and fairness to be restored.
Hiyas is the main character and in the book, he and the Princess ends up together in the end.
But also in the book, the Princess dearly loved and spoiled her little brother, Prince Ellios, for she felt pity and guilty for the sufferings he had to endure outside the palace. But Ellios is a villain and thus, he was ultimately abandoned by the Princess.
With me meddling about the story, I can't just let Ellios become the bad guy, now can I?
So I start to wonder...
Whose side will the Princess pick in the end? The main character, or her little brother?
The Princess and Hiyas are meant to be, they're destined to fall in love with each other as the story progresses. Once they do, it'll be harder for Ellios to beat Hiyas for the throne. However, if I meddle in between, will I be able to break the fated lovers apart?
...
It truly will be a good show to watch, won't it?
It's a pretty nice start so far.
Based on what I've read, Elios doesn't seem as bad as Hiyas, but this might be because we do not know his goals or anything. I guess Elios is the antagonist, but an antagonist is not always the villain, they might just be opposed to the protagonist and not be necessarily evil.
In any case, they both kind of remind me of how the music group Sabaton describes the Swedish ruler Charles XII in their song "Carolus Rex". It makes Charles XII sound very haughty and arrogant, but also "larger than life":

There's also a Swedish version (which has very different lyrics), which makes Charles sound less haughty and more "noble" (I guess):

Either way, they're both powerful songs, especially the chorus.
And if you're curious, as the songs describe, he was only 15 when he rose to the throne, was already leading armies and fielding military campaigns before his rise, was a good military commander (but not in the same league as Alexander the Great, Hannibal Barca, Julius Caesar, Scipio Africanus, Gaius Marius, Subutai, and maybe Edward of Woodstock in my opinion), and due to this success on the battlefield, he believed that he actually did believe that he was chosen by Heaven, but because of his lack of patience and arrogance due to winning too much, he got his disastrous defeat at Poltava at the hands of the Tsar of Russia Peter the Great.
And of course, Sabaton also made a song about his defeat lol:

Hopefully, either Hiyas and/or Elios will eat the humble pie soon enough (if they both are indeed arrogant). Perhaps, the MC should humble them lol.
Although to be fair, being decisive, cunning and creating schemes does not necessarily make you a villain, many anti-heroes and Byronic heroes do the same thing. Lucifer Morningstar from "Lucifer" by Mike Carey and John Constantine from "Hellblazer" are just 2 of the examples that I could think of from the top of my head that employs these methods.
And just for further clarity and as an example, here are a few scenes of Lucifer Morningstar from Mike Carey's "Lucifer" being cunning, manipulative and decisive (he's an anti-hero / Byronic hero in the story):

Got to love Lucifer, even though he's one of the most powerful characters in the story, he still prefers to use his intelligence, his eloquence, his craftiness and cunning to get what he wants. And this is because of his principles and his principles are for the sake of his own pride without any sense of morality, but somehow, you can't hate him for it lol. And ironically, he manipulates and deceives you by telling you the truth (also due to his pride and principles) and letting you find your "own way to hell". He's not exactly evil, more like very self-interested and prideful.
Anyways, back to the main point, it's mainly because Hiyas' only goal is to succeed the throne that it makes him seem like he's lower in the "shades of gray" morality test. I guess protagonist would be a better way to describe him and not exactly a hero.
Anyways, I'm looking forward for more and sorry for nerding out so much in the comment lol.
Thanks for the chapter, interesting start :)
Thanks for the chapter. A storybook reincarnation where the mc actually wants some drama? Girl's love? Say no more I'm in.
I was wondering how in the he** is a 4yr old going to save a baby floating down the river? How did a 4yr old get away from the parents? if mc didn't want baby to go all warmonger why not just oh I don't know drown the baby?
Rai was 6 y/o when she went to save the bebeh
She was jogging for 3 years from the village to the mountain waiting for bebeh prince
She wanted to go into the palace and join the fun
She's not a murderer
I thought I made this clear enough, but I apologise if it didn't. I'm planning to re-edit everything when it is an appropriate time for me
@The2ndKid So is she not going to take advantage of her Modern Knowledge? Like making businesses and inventing things? She can also make Magical Technology if she puts her mind to it. It seems like her only plan is to raise the prince into a good guy and meddle in royal politics, not a very smart plan if I may say. It would be better to raise the prince into a good guy and then have him help her build businesses with his connections and money.
@BreezyNovels we will see, maybe Rai could pull of something? It depends on her plans
Plot twist, she actually do all this to watch good show, not she care about the place doom
interesting story, thank you for chapter.
When I first read that she's waiting for a baby floating down the river, I thought to myself: is she waiting for baby Moses or something? Lol
...
Mrow! :O
