Spacey answers: “Affirmative!” And those wearing the eyeglasses are met with a welcome message of the Spatial Store Panel:

Welcome to the Spatial Store on your first meet!
Here you can buy almost every vegetables, fruit, trees, flowers, mushrooms, nuts, livestock and fishes, Earth has to offer. These are available under the Farming Panel.
Under the Structure Panel, you’ll find all types of structure designs you are able to build within the OFT-Space which will facilitate your every need, such as they are categorized under: house, storage, production, shop, market, boost, and utilities.
Under the Landscape Panel, you’ll find all types of different landscaping designs that can change the terrain to whatever you want to, such as steady ‘type’ roads, different underground pipes, raise the terrain, lower the terrain, add quarry, add a fishing pond and much more. Also, there are other miscellaneous designs you might need, to separate the farming spaces from the livestock. You don’t want the rabbits to nibble on your crops, do you!
A friendly reminder to take note of: the Panels will only show the products currently available on the OFT-Space level. In your case, that’s level 1.

Theodore looks at the ‘Welcome’ message and then says to the others: “Well let’s see the Farming Panel first.”

Farming Panel:

Tree Nordic Spruce 1 Seedling 35.40 10 years

Just like the game Farming Together it shows a picture of the crop in the Farming Panel, which they all could see. (2)

Theodore says: “Well the maturity period Garden Cress is 3 weeks to full growth and has the most seeds, Pak Choi is the second fastest-growing. But Spacey suggested the carrot due to the quantity and XP return. Spacey also recommends that we should plant the Apple Tree seedling of which we received 4 of them as a gift. It said that once matured each tree will bear about 500 fruits per year. Let’s look at the….” Eric interrupted Theodore by saying: “Hold on son, these vegetables are named like this because they are known that way on that other planet?”

When Eric said those words, Theodore came to realize he went to fast and asks: “Yes, dad. These crops are known by those names on that planet. I am not sure if we have the same crops here, all I remember of vegetables and fruits is when they are on a plate chopped or cooked. It was the first time I’ve seen them whole on the sacks and what we just saw, do we have them here looking like that?”

Eric answers: “Yes, they are all common vegetables and fruits, but goes with other names we know. Going from top to bottom: Long Orange Digging Root (carrots), Edible Peppery Instant Weed (garden cress), All Filling Green Leaves (lettuce), Easy Growing WG Leaves (pak choi), Natural Oil Nut Shells (peanuts) and Red Juicy Flesh Fruit (apple). I am not sure of the last one, the tree, because it isn't typical to plant trees on farmlands.” (3)

Theodore managed to distract their thoughts with his quick thinking and put the final nail in it, and says: “I am not well versed with all the available crops and livestock here, because we have never been taught in them. Perhaps farming was beneath us when we were nobles, but I think it’s time now knowing more. As for the tree, it's needed for construction materials, when we are building structures. With the memories of Rick and Spacey’s help, I’ll be able to go through it very fast. Umm… dad, what do you know about farming?”

Eric turned red and looks at Bruce, who answers: “Well Theodore, we are also new to this. That’s why we had a long discussion in the afternoon about which crops we should plant.” Eric angrily says to Bruce: “Why you!”

Theodore chuckles and then says: “Dad, don’t. You shouldn’t feel ashamed not knowing. Neither of us should! We haven’t been in this forced position before. It’s good to be open about it. Farming isn’t easy as it seems, it’s not just about digging a hole in the ground and putting a seed in, watering and bury it afterward.”

“The most important thing is the sorts of crops you wish to grow. They each like to thrive in a specific month or months and certain conditions. Let’s just look at the details of the carr… umm, Long Orange Digging Root. Spacey show us the details.”

Jade, who sees the details exclaimed, says: “Theodore you have to plant some of these seeds, we can trim them down for our own meals. So we don’t have to buy them at the grocery shop.” Theodore answers: “Yes of course mom. We will reserve some squares for our own needs. But we can’t attract attention from outsiders that we get all our vegetables from somewhere else.”

Jade answers: "Yes. There are some we usually cook that's not on the list, so we still need to buy those at the grocery store." Theodore says: "Perhaps they will show up on the other levels, I am not quite sure though, we'll see later." Jade says: "Yes son, let see the next one."

Theodore sees the details and says: "Rick really enjoyed this vegetable because it could be mixed with anything and it's really fast cooked besides being delicious. Aunt May this Easy Growing WG Leaves (pak choi) goes really well with soup." May answers: "Yes, it's a pity though that we are out of season. We have to wait for next year when they start selling it again."

Theodore nodded, looks at Eric, and says: “These crops have practical names here, but it might be necessary to use Earth names to keep the crops from here and OFT-Space apart. I am unsure if they taste the same either. But I believe mom and aunt will be eager to try cooking with it?” Jade answers: “Yes, I really want to try it and see how it tastes.” She looks at May and started to converse with her, what she just saw in the glasses.

Eric says: “Yes, we need to separate them till we are sure. Let’s look at the Natural Oil Nut Shells umm … what was it again?” Theodore answered: “Peanuts. Do we only use these nuts to press oil, because on Earth they are roasted or cooked and eaten that way."

"There is a favorite thing they do with them, grind the seeds to paste adding some sugar and a little salt. They spread a bit of this paste on bread and eat it just like that, they call it peanut butter. I would like to try it once, just to taste because it seems delicious from what I can see in Rick’s memories.”

Eric surprised by this couldn’t help but ask: “Really won’t it be too oily?” Theodore answers: “I am not so sure, but from what I can see not so much oil is in one peanut seed. Though every nut and some seeds have oil in it, it’s just a shame you'll need a large quantity of it to press oil out of it. Some could be used for other purposes. Well, let’s just see the details, Spacey.”

Eric, Bruce, and Jade look at the details and were surprised to see how many options available for these nuts as they only knew of the Oil nut. Theodore says: “They can only be planted in 1 season because it takes 5 months for it to fully mature. Carrots umm… the Long Orange Digging Root seems to be the most practical amongst the rest due to the quantity and can be planted 6 times per season. But we can plant some of the other seeds, just to try what is suggested in our meals.”

Jade says: "I would really like that son. Are there any cooking receipts in the store we can use?" Theodore answers: "Rick worked in a restaurant and learned some cooking, so there are some in his memory, I'll write them down and we can make our own cooking book. But I am unsure if some of the ingredients are available here or that we will have to see if this Spatial Store has them later."

Jade says: "Once you have written it down, we'll have to see about that son. We can bring some variety to our meals." Theodore says: "Yes mom, I saw within Rick's memories a lot of different receipts we can try. Let's see the next one."

Storage details: The fruit will be stored in the Harvest Locker.
Usage:
Cooking:

Once cleaned, the fruit can be eaten raw or chopped and added in salads. Diced and cooked with some dishes to give it a sweet taste. If cooked, be sure to watch it closely because it is fast cooked. It can also be cooked through to make apple sauce, mixed with a bit water, sugar and spice or cinnamon for taste.
Also used as filling in desserts / pies.

Drinks production: Apples are pressed to produce apple juice. It can be drunk filtered or unfiltered. Usually most preferred filtered juice served cold. Unfiltered is usually used to ferment it to make apple cider or vinegar.
Through distillation of the unfiltered, various alcoholic beverages can be produced. (5)
Earning details after selling harvest; 25.00 gold coins 0 MaC 49.00 XP
Condition; 62 Apples with a diameter 7.0 cm to 8.3 cm.

Bruce asks: "Theodore, what is distillation?" Theodore answers: "It's a process known on Earth of purifying a liquid by heating and cooling. It can concentrate liquid by adding several ingredients to make an alcoholic drink much stronger than if you only ferment it. That's what I can see from Rick's memories. Later we will have such facility and we can try to make those alcoholic beverages."

Eric says: "We have to get that once it's available." Theodore laughs and answers: "Then we have to work really hard. Let's see the last one."

Author tries to explain:

  • 1) Made a mistake on chapter 9 where I had written that carrots take 3 weeks to grow, but actually they take about 72 days to 90 days to mature. Corrected it.
  • 2) The Store Panel in the game looks different than what I described, but whats written is much easier too describe than what is showed in the game.
I thought first to add pictures of crops and buildings in the novel, such as in the game, but decided against it. Looking up or taking pictures of them and uploading it to a website, will take me away from writing and I prefer to write about it. You’ll easily find a picture one or two on the internet if you look them up.
Farming Together has its own Fandom Wiki site, where all the crops and building are displayed. As for using those, I am not affiliated Milkstone, nor the Fandom site.
  • 3) I will go back to the usual names as it will be hard to remember what I meant with the made up names. Though new Azure crops will be reference towards something that looks like what we know, but will definitely not the same.
  • 4) The actual growth times of these crops are somewhat unchanged from reality and taken from the internet. Though keep in mind that 1 month is 25 days and 1 day has 30 hours in this novel.
I made some adjustments on the amount of harvest on multiple fruits and nuts, cause the return will be out of balance in my novel. Though the leveling would be faster, but later other better crops come into play and some won't make it on the novel anymore.
  • 5) Drinks referenced from Wikipedia "Apple".
