General Description:

Spirits. One of the most common creatures in Terra Sol, yet the type of creature that is the most difficult to find. They live close to the various types of aether in the world, to the point of almost being equal to it.

Spirits come in three, technically four, different types: the "normal sprites" that look only like balls of light in the eyes of the common man, the Humanoid Spirits, spearheaded by the Sprite species, the Spirit Beasts that are horrible foes to face, and the Spirit Lords, true masters of the elements.

Other traits such as [War Spirit], [Demonic Spirit], and [Evil Spirit] show the "nature" of the spirit, but do not affect what "type" they are.

Trait: Spirit: "XXX"

Abilities:

  • Bonus damage for "XXX" attribute skills: *1.5
  • Damage inflicted onto self by "XXX" attribute skills: *0.8
  • Bonus damage taken by "YYY" attribute skills: *1.3
  • Status enhancement when in areas with "XXX" aether: [Medium]
  • *Variable effect based on attribute*

Description:

The "original" Spirit-type trait. It comes in 10 different types, based on the ten first primary attributes. Even spirits that main a composition attribute will have one or more of this trait under this belt. A Lightning-type spirit may have either [Spirit: Light] or [Spirit: Wind], or maybe both at the same time. But it cannot have [Spirit: Earth] unless special circumstances are at play.

All spirits have at least 1 of these traits, but spirits who only have this type of trait can only be seen as "floating balls of light" which are the common description for spirits. Some of them may also possess traits like [Spiritual Spirit] or [Demonic Spirit], but that is a different story.

The effects of these traits include adding extra damage when using attacks of the corresponding attribute or reducing damage using defense based on that attribute again. In case they have various traits, the effect will overlap, granting more damage and better defense.

However, these traits also grant extra weaknesses to an opposing primary attribute. Fire-type Spirits will grow weaker against Ice-type attacks, and Wind-type Spirits will have it more difficult facing Earth-type opponents.

On another note, if one has several Spirit traits, then the weakness will be lowered based on what type of trait it is. If a spirit has both [Spirit: Life] and [Spirit: Fire], the weakness of the former to the Death attribute will be lower, as the Fire Spirit trait grants a "source of heat" to repel the powers of death. How a trait shields a different attribute's weaknesses is a case-by-case scenario, but facing a spirit commanding multiple attributes will be a challenge, to say the least.

Finally, every trait comes with a special effect connected to the attribute. [Spirit: Life] for example grants higher recovery, while [Spirit: Metal] enhances the user's defensive effects.

Trait: Humanoid Spirit

Abilities:

  • Increases the value of the MP stat: *1.5
  • Reduces the value of SP stat: *0.7
  • Increases proficiency using spirit-related items: [Small]
  • Reduces LP cost for recruiting humanoids and spirit-type targets into groups by 5 LP (cannot go lower than 10 LP).

Description:

[Humanoid Spirit] is a trait granted to spirits who have gained a human shape without the need for special traits such as [Incarnation] or [Element Body].

This is generally those of the Sprite races. A common trait among those born with this skill is that they possess some sort of symbol related to their attribute, and their bodies sometimes turn half-transparent.

The spirits with this trait have gained better usage of their mana, but their stamina is weaker compared to other humanoids. On the other hand, they have gained an affinity for using items that are connected to spirits, something they could not do as "normal spirits".

And finally, as a humanoid, these spirits can recruit other humanoids and spirits for an LP discount compared to normal.

Trait: Spirit Beast

Abilities:

  • Increase the value of MP and SP stats: *1.2
  • All attacks are granted additional attribute-based damage based on racial attributes: [Normal]
  • All attacks received are dampened by attribute-based defenses based on racial attributes: [Normal]
  • All health-status values are gradually recovered while in areas with aether of the same type as one's racial attributes: [Small]
  • Reduces LP costs of spirit-type creatures with a lower rank than oneself by 10 LP (cannot go lower than 10 LP).

Description:

Spirit Beasts are some of the most ferocious spirits one can encounter. Their strength makes them formidable opponents, easily able to defeat dragons if the attributes are aligned in their favor. They gain extra damage, extra defense, and extra recovery if their racial attribute matches that of the environment.

The creatures with this trait are spirits with animalistic traits. They do not even need to be completely animalistic, as only half-animal, half-human-looking spirits can have the [Spirit Beast] trait. Those individuals possess both it, and [Humanoid Spirit].

Continuing from there, such a Spirit Beast can be considered to be a watered-down Spirit Lord, as the Lord has all the trait effects of the Spirit Beast, just better. They even have access to the positive effects of the Humanoid Spirit, just better again.

Blaze's comment: Spirit Beasts... My mommy told me scary bedtime stories about them when I was little... They are horrifying...

Noire's comment: For some reason, I started to think about our resident spirit knight. It can't be, right...?
