As you all know, updates have been rather sporadic lately. This is mostly because I've been experiencing a rather intense case of Writer's Block.
It's underlined and capitalized; that's how you know it's serious.
Anyway, I'm having trouble thinking of new content to write that will eventually lead to the murder fest end of the story. Plotting is hard and because I thinking writing episodic chapters rather than straight storyline is a bit more interesting to experiment with, I'm asking you guys what you'd like to see from this story. So far, it's been mostly fighting and system stuff but I think that's pretty boring to read all the time.
So! Whatcha got for me?
(Remember, guys. I've got a Discord just waiting for you to join.)

just write whatever silly nonsense amuses you :) If nothing else, jot down a couple writing prompts to chose btwn, and fill one of them out. E.g. MC goes somewhere new, MC learns something surprising, A supporting char dies a hilarious death, whatev! :) I can't recall who said "if I only wrote when inspired I'd have gotten very little done" or something along those lines. Maya Angelou maybe? i forget.
I'll take that advice. Thanks!
Can we have a series of encounters that lead to a chapter with the title drop.
For example, Flake becomes OP, the lord of the keep notices him and offers to marry his precious daughter, to which Flake replies, "I'm Just the Guard"
Or less dramatic, someone asks him a question about the political situation of the game, to which he replies, "I'm just the Guard"
I love title drops in stories! I'll keep that in mind when writing future chapters ^^
Make the other guard(sry, i m Bad with names and forgot) like crystal, so that all the guards spawn, stay for a few days and then leave him :D
I think he should stay to keep the guard till he has something else to guard, like a Merchant carawan, some treassury or even a princess.
Being a guard isnt just about fighting, you can have many interactions with the other fellow guards, officers, employes and so on. Well, if their AI is good enough ^^
Just got another idea, you can make a game event/Update so thats possible to hire guards. Go to the noble, pay some gold, get the guard to guard you, fight for you, do your stuff .... for a period of time. This way you could get him out of the keep for a bid, but he ll still return to the keep once in a while.
Crystal was, quite honestly, a special case. I figured in video games there's always a guard NPC that's dissatisfied with their way of life and will take bribes to let players in, right? Crystal was like that.
I think I'll take that game event into consideration, actually.
@The3Crimson3Kane yeah, there is always someone who you can bribe ^^
We could do a hard cut to Crystal's adventures and how her behavior throws even more of the game into disarray.
Some people from the dev team slowly but surely realizing all the bug reports and complaints they are getting.
Npc life in the interior of the keep, which would be stat6and boring, but its possible those guards have a "higher" Ai which is why they weren't as affected by Flake or his shenanigans. Could have one of them notice one day he built some traps or a sad excuse for a guard shack, or his training.
Could do a whole POV bit for the new guy and his thoughts.
Could just have them fare off against nature, beyond the scope of the snow. A hungry wolf pack, goblin party, kobold siege, etc.
All very interesting ideas!
Since Flake can't leave his post the story has to come to him, but he just guards the gate and doesn't have any further ambition or call to adventure. . . Doesn't the story have to shift focus to external forces as it moves forward to keep from becoming too repetitive? His story kind of ends with his rise and if the story at large were to continue past that, it would need to go elsewhere. The players. The NPCs he has awakened. The NPCs they awaken. The shift in the game world. What the Devs do about it. How the sapient AI affect the servers. That's my off the cuff thoughts, but we're already getting some of those views anyway.
Episodic sounds pretty good. It all started with one guard, but it became so much bigger than even the architect expected.
Add in random events like bandits or a overarching background story like mentions of a cult then much much later on a demon sent by a eldritch being comes like that
cool
Some things that I would find amusing:
The internal guards and house owner could gain sentience, leave and the guard ends up guarding an empty house where the players become confused about a quest that can't be completed. The house might get destroyed, and he ends up guarding an empty plot of land.
He might start to wonder why he was guarding in the first place, become a looter and leave a wake of sentient npcs to ravage the players. This could be the start of some weird cult where he is regarded as the leader, but he doesn't have enough intelligence to run, so he says a few random things and everyone believes him unconditionally.
He could go on an adventure prompted by the players, as they think he is a fellow player hired to guard the building. He might even get a quest from npcs about Crystal stealing things
Overall, I really like the idea of playing with the AI and sentience of the npc, the interactions and chaos which can come from it. Try to keep it unpredictable, and try to keep in line with the guards characteristics. He seems dull, so give him some dull solutions which are amusing and face-palmy. Relax, have fun and play with your story.
Whatever you do PLEASE don't forget that our MC just pissed his pants so the cold should be unbearable now due to the moisture
Also don't 1up that and make him sh*t now pls
:)
Destroy Elden Keep, it gets rid of what is keeping Flake pinned down and allows you to explore the world as a whole.
Well, then, we wouldn't really have a basis for this story anymore...
@The3Crimson3Kane ... he could then pick what he's "just a guard" guarding ... ?
