Women in AFW

In most cultures on the planet Ipra, women are considered the weaker gender.  Regularly exposed to rampant sexism and even misogyny.  

Who they will spend their lives with is determined by their parents or at least requires their approval.  Predestined to submissively serve their chosen man.  With little in the way of social or legal rights and protections.  Expected to take comfort in childbirth and rearing.

Usually, only those with guts, talent, and luck, are able to overcome this fate.  Often ending up as “adventurers.”  Called “daoists,” cultivators, in Anyango.  “Adventuring professions” have the highest percentage of female participants, of any occupation.

By and large “intimacy” is rare.  With most simply having to endure the man’s attentions and finding what pleasure they can when and where they can.  If they have the courage or fortune/misfortune to seek or find it at all.

Marital Ranks

“Harems” are actually pretty rare on Ipra.  Only common among the wealthiest.  Most marriages are publicly, if not actually, monogamous.  For publicly acknowledged harems, the authority of a spouse is determined by her “rank” and seniority.

Wife

A wife has social and legal rights and protections.  Considered part of the family and extended clan/house with her offspring having rights to the husband’s inheritance.

First Wife

The primary wife, not necessarily the first woman married, is considered both the head of the harem and the head of the household.  Her authority second only to the husband’s and their offspring receiving the lion’s share of the inheritance plus any titles involved.

Some husband’s regularly change which wife is considered primary.  Making it a competition between their wives for who can do the most to “earn” it.

Concubine

A not-wife wife has few social and legal rights and protections.  Considered part of the family but not part of the extended clan/house.  Their offspring have no rights to the husband’s inheritance.

Mistress

A not-concubine concubine has no social and legal rights nor protections.  Not considered part of the family nor part of the extended clan/house.  Their offspring have no rights to the husband’s inheritance.

Daughter of House Chastel’s senior branch.  Born manaless.  Met and fell in love with Red at Stormgarde Academy but never confessed.  Became Edelys and Silvie’s BFF.  Engaged to Edelys’s brother, Tanault, until contracting leprosy.  Pregnant with Tanault’s child.  Lost during healing attempts.  Brought to Lions Keep in hopes that Jon could cure her.  Cured of leprosy and manalessness.  Confessed to Edelys and became her lover.  Attending Stormgarde for a second time to learn magic.  First year student.  Became Franziska’s apprentice.

Goals:  Become Jon’s archmage.  Prove she can be a good mother with Red’s child.

Duri (Dwarfinator, Tank)

Duridegit Cavebraid Kurfoud, Mistress, 4’6”, 98 years, thuriborn dwarf

Sold into slavery after losing power struggle within her clan.  Eventually sold to gladiator school in Aquecia.  Rose to fame in arena and won freedom.  Fought as mercenary in last Aquecian Crusade.  Killed a demon lord.  Joined Adventurers Guild and started a party made up of former slaves.  Leader of Redbrand party.  Killed dragon in eastern Iagreth.  Promoted to Gold ranked adventurer.  Contracted cursed version of Consumption.  Accepted commission to train Jon.  Healed by Jon after their first duel.

Goals:  Protect members of Redbrand.  Get richer.  Get promoted to Mithral rank.

Foxy

Mimchau of the Sholmoc, Mistress, 5’6”, 33 years, beastlands beastkin(fox)

Left Beastlands with brother, Gaizo, to become adventurers.  Hired by guild after impressing guildmaster with her math skills.  Promoted and transferred to Pearlden Adventurers Guild as part of deal with guild leadership to get her brother cured after career ending injury.  Mission is to seduce and spy on Jon.

Goals:  Become Jon’s Concubine or Wife.  Find Jon’s achilles heel.  Use Jon’s influence to get brother promoted by guild.

Born Avalina Faphyri Angelles.  Daughter of King Arter II Angelles of Tourin and Lady Filaurel Inialos Zimel Adceran of Granya.  Disgraced by Flower Society.  Promised to Theovald Airnett until she fled to church.  Became oracle of Metian church.  Performed ritual that summoned Jon.  Raped and cursed by demons then rescued and cured by Jon.  Used Slavery Magic on herself to become Jon’s slave.  Began cult worshipping “the Beast.”  Lethally wounded during church ambush in Colrac dungeon.  Saved by Jon using Recovery Magic and Dark Magic.  Body rebuilt using corpse parts.  Assumed new identity, Ushinua, an orphaned dark-elf-human slave.  Despite being 2nd wife, considered true head of harem instead of Edelys.

Goals:  Find cure for her infertility.  Become pregnant with Jon’s child.  Protect Jon from anyone who would harm or misuse him.  Expand Jon's cult and influence.

Frosty (Breastless twig)

Franziska Frost, Mistress, 3’6”, 400 years, granyan elf

Born with birth defects.  Sold by family to slavers.  Rescued by Sanriel.  Joined Sayo’s harem.  Swore to fulfill the heroine's dream.  Became teacher at Stormgarde Academy.  Eventually became Dean of Magical Studies.  Believes Jon to be the reincarnation of Sanriel.  Recruited Alote as her apprentice.  3+ weeks pregnant.

Goals:  Give birth to Jon’s daughter.  Turn Blue into an archmage.

Hitomi (Highschool girlfriend, Japanese highschooler, JK girl, Thief-hero)

Hitomi Chigusa, Mistress, 5'2", 16 years, japanese human

Distantly related to Red.  Disgraced as teen by Flower Society.  Became pregnant with daughter Clari.  Married off to a distant village lord of House Sothea.  Widowed during, and rescued from, dragon attack on village.  Becomes Jon’s majordomo.

Little Li (Li, Younger sister, Young Li)

Li Zexi Tiang, Mistress, 5’3”, 16 years, yanese human

Princess of Empire of Yangxu.  Attended Stormgarde Academy as first year student to rescue her older sister, Ji, and learn Divine Magic.  Swore herself to Jon for healing her sister.

Goals:  Lift her older sister's banishment.  Become Jon's wife.  Return to Yangxu with Jon.  Adopt Jon into imperial family.  Use Jon to reunite the yan.

Lula (Chocolate angel, Cocoa goddess, Mocha momma)

Luliene Chastel, Mistress, 5’2”, 27 years, ukuxhan human

Princess of the royal family of Ukuxha.  Family overthrown in civil war.  Banished and sold to slavers.  Purchased by brothel.  Later bought as slave-wife by ducal heir of House Chastel.  Unable to get pregnant despite years of trying.  Part of deal by Duchess Chastel with Jon to get Luliene pregnant.  Owner-husband, Hammond, assassinated during succession struggle for duchy.  2+ weeks pregnant.

Alote’s mother.  Former Duchess of House Chastel.  Widowed when husband, Duke Richart Chastel, attempted to kill Hitomi and Jon.  Has five children with him.  Tried to stall succession until oldest, Hammond, had enough support.  Accepted offer of refuge and place by Jon’s side after Hammond’s assassination.

Val (Littlest Vampire)

Raeleran street urchin trained to be proper lady as part of bet between nobles of House Alvingham.  Adopted and turned into vampire by bet’s loser.  Forced to flee after House purged by inquisition.  Hunted by adventurers for years afterwards.  Entered Jon’s service after being found by undead patrol and drinking his blood.  Now is the vampire “queen” of Raneya county.  Was captured and tortured by church.  Regularly drinking Jon’s blood made her resistant to sunlight.
