Chapter 64: Too Dangerous and Lethal
"Young master, aren't you just over exaggerating it? I don't think the Liu family will become our enemies. With how long our families been together, I doubt that they will become our enemies just because of a broken engagement." Elder Wu knew it's a big jump from being friends for three generations to enemies.
Lu Chen nods his head, "Yes, it wouldn't have been a problem if it's anybody else, but the problem is it's Ye Meixiu. Using her would be putting a red target onto our backs. It can be anyone else, but it cannot be Ye Meixiu."
Lu Chen had already place Ye Meixiu into the too dangerous and lethal section in his mind a long time ago.
The Ye group is not only on equal powers with the Liu Corporation. But they’re also business rivals. So if Lu Chen decides to break the engagement with Liu Fei Fei and then settles on Ye Meixiu, it would be a death wish for the Lu family.
Lu Chen already knows what the headlines of newspapers will be once they find out. The Lu family's third son chooses the Liu family's business rival, the Ye princess, over their princess!
Aghhh, those reporters will have the time of their life writing that article. While Lu Chen is disturbed by his own thoughts, Elder Wu couldn't help but grin at how much Lu Chen is thinking ahead for the Lu family.
If I’m thinking two steps ahead, then the young master is thinking about three or maybe even four steps ahead of me. The Lu family will definitely have a prosperous future ahead of them.
But Elder Wu starts to regret that Ye Meixiu couldn’t be a fiancee candidate for Lu Chen. He could help but say out loud, " But young master, Xiao Xiu would have been a great Ms. Lu."
Lu Chen looks at Elder Wu with his brows raised, "Huh, what do you mean?" He looks at Elder Wu in confusion about how Ye Meixiu would have been a great fiancee for him. Just remembering how she stuck her tongue at him is enough to make Lu Chen want to pinch her cheeks again.
Elder Wy immediately stops the car and looks at Lu Chen as if he's blind to the world around him. He could help but ask Lu Chen, “Xiao Chen, do you not understand Xiao Xiu’s feelings for you?” Ye Meixiu’s feelings are so apparent that everybody should have realized it by now.
From Elder Wu’s pitiful expression, Lu Chen scoffs at him, “Of course, I know Meixiu’s feelings towards me.”
Elder Wu sighs in relief, Oh thank god, he is not like his grandfather. He never wants to have the same things that happened to Lu Chen’s grandfather.
“She sees me as a reliable big brother.” Lu Chen said, puffing his chest out proudly. To Lu Chen, Ye Meixiu will always be that little girl who he spoils and watches over. Lu Chen didn't tell Elder Wu, but the main reason why the man didn't want to use Ye Meixiu is she will always be a little sister to him. He didn't want to let her get into his problems when he can deal with them himself.
Bang
Despite Lu Chen’s good nature, however, his words made Elder Wu bang his head onto the steering wheel. Goddammit, he is made from the same mold as him! My life is screwed! Elder Wu could already imagine the problems Lu Chen was going to face with women.
“Elder Wu, are you ok?” Seeing that Elder Wu suddenly banging his head onto the steering wheel made Lu Chen worry if something is wrong with him.
“I’m okay young master. I'm just reevaluating my life right now.” From how ignorant Lu Chen is towards Ye Meixiu’s feelings, Elder Wu wanted to retire as a bodyguard.
God, please smite me right now! Elder Wu screams in his heart as he couldn’t take another one of those horrific events that he has gone through in the past.
While one person is crying his heart out in despair, Lu Chen, on the other hand, smiles as he talked with one of his closest friends again.
Elder Wu needs to train him in more than just martial arts... And he needs to start by clarifying this misunderstanding right now.
You've set up the perfect scenario to subvert/transcend the trope right now... With an annoying stereotypically oblivious MC placed with a mentor/father figure who has seen a previous oblivious MC, knows how bad an idea it is, AND sees what is happening with our MC and is in a position to do something about it.
Please don't have Elder Wu let this pass....
Oblivious MC should get to die again and again till he is no longer oblivious. Oblivious MC is the #1 reason I drop books
@Deadguydave Same here. I don't remember this story having the "dense protagonist" tag, so I hope he comes out of it soon!
Nevermind, I just checked and it does have that tag. Guess I'll probably be dropping this story soon...
if the other family already knows about what the bit*h is doing, how's taking a picture of them together going to help? Wouldn't her family just tell her to leave the other dude if he showed the picture?
Yup. I've been waiting for the author to comment on this ever since Lu Chen acknowledged Elder Wu as his bodyguard (obviously Fei Fei would have one also, since her status and vulnerability appear higher, and they must have been reporting everything for years, which means the grandparents all know, and they all know that each other know). I couldn't wait and ranted one chapter earlier before seeing your comment.
I think that the point is that Fei Fei needs to leave him, not the other way around, so that he can be free to choose someone else. (He can't be seen to be looking for greener pastures, because that would slap the face of the @$$hole Liu family.) The Liu family needs to propose that the engagement be called off, or it needs to appear to be a spontaneous mutual realization, for the benefit of outside parties. (Lets be honest, none of the decision-makers are clueless, aside from Fei Fei, at this point.) It should be easy for Lu Chen to get Fei Fei to propose this, especially since she is still under the mistaken impression that her family is unaware of her activities, but, (1) we need to know why she hasn't done so before now (has she been directed to hang onto him at all costs, and by whom) and (2) whether or not the family will go with her wishes (Does the Liu have something compelling to gain from the marriage more important than the potentially scandalous high-society reaction to Fei Fei's "secret" behavior.)
@TDM If the Liu family isn't behind the destruction of the Lu family in that future then my only guess for any of this to make sense is that while the family is getting some reports from Liu Fei Fei bodyguard somebody is somehow either tampering with or hiding the reports or somehow hiding the young miss of the Liu family more egregious acts which is how in that past life Shen was able to sleep with Liu Fei Fei without the families knowing because I feel if they knew that then it would be a slap to the Lu family and the other rich families would turn on Liu family unless like you said the Liu is evil and wants to destroy and did destroy the Lu family in that past life.
@AzureXIII ... none of that changes a thing about how Lu Chen should act. Assuming you are correct, it would be best for Fei Fei to initiate things but he can still reach out immediately to his grandparents with the un-photoshopped documents he has. Either way, the pictures aren't going to show anything that his grandparents aren't already aware of. If things have been hidden from the Liu grandparents, they can hardly blame Lu Chen when he is willing to amicably end the relationship that their granddaughter @#$% over, without causing a public embarrassment for their family, while simultaneously revealing that their retainers were hiding things from them and might be under the influence of a 3rd party ...
... all the better for Lu Chen. Either way, Fei Fei is to blame, or whomever is manipulating the 3rd parties, not him. They can't reasonably expect him to wear a green hat and if they weren't aware previously, they will have bigger problems to deal with than Lu Chen.
If the danger to Lu Chen's family is connected to Fei Fei and/or Long Chen, cutting it off ASAP could never be a bad move and is the fastest way to ensure that those parties find a new target. I agree that it is SUPER sketchy that the Liu family never interfered with Long Chen; I refuse to believe that they didn't become aware at some point, unless they were all killed off like the Lu family or they didn't care about him as an individual once his grandparents were dead and gone... either way, It will only be made more clear after trying to break off the engagement.
If the danger to Lu Chen's family isn't connected to Fei Fei or Long Chen, then it doesn't matter what he does regarding the engagement.
Either way, he is still free to investigate Long Chen, and will have better opportunity to do so once the relationship between Fei Fei and himself is ended. (If he does anything before, it would seem petty and might potentially hurt the face of the Lu or Liu families.) Speed of action is needed before family start dying.
@TDM In my option, In ch-1 Fei Fei said
“Love me? You forced me into a marriage, don't you remember,” She begins to remember how Lu Chen would threaten to kill himself if he doesn't marry her.
so, there was likely event where Fei Fei tried to break engagement. I think MC is waiting for that moments to act and make everything official. As he said in this chp; if he point out Fei Fei and Long Feng relationship now, the likely result is he can't break off the engagement easily.
@ryukanine ... I suppose he might wait for that. However, what if that only occurred AFTER the death of his grandparents, parents, one brother and the disappearance and probable death of his other brother. He definitely won't want to wait that long, I'm sure you'll agree. I'm guessing that the circumstances where there was no family pressure.
But, it is good to know that she might, under some circumstances, initiate things herself, so I agree with your thought that he is probably waiting for her to initiate things. (Which takes the family pressure off him.)
@TDM yeah I agree. It is hard to guess the timeline since the only information is they married for 8 years. And not how old MC is at the point of death and when they get married.
