Meanwhile, deeply hidden by the sea of White Zetsu, spatial fluctuations appeared, and moments later, a masked man emerged from a spiral pattern in midair and landed next to Madara and Hashirama.
"Took you long enough, Obito. What in the world is going on here?"
Obito clicked his tongue in annoyance at Madara's commanding tone but started talking nonetheless.
"Let's just say that the birth of a certain young woman messed up around half of what we had planned for the future."
Naturally, Madara instantly knew who Obito was talking about as the image of a madly grinning woman with red hair popped up in his mind.
"Tell me what exactly happened."
Obito was just about to start speaking when a thin water wire cut through an army of White Zetsu like they were made of paper, quickly followed by a white sea of flames that burnt an equal amount of them to ashes.
"Shit, no time for storytime. The other monsters are here already."
"Other? There are more than these two!?"
Obito really wanted to curse himself for letting that info slip. The less time they spent talking, the more leisure they had in reactivating the Gedo Mazo, and here he was blabbering nonsense.
"They are not on the same level but monstrous nonetheless. Anyway, we have no time, so let's hurry up with our plan, or it will actually fail."
As soon as Obito finished speaking, some of the White Zetsu cells that were replacing his right side flowed into Madara, allowing him to restore himself to at least some degree.
The duo's eyes landed on Hashirma, who was still lying motionless on the ground while stealthily trying to gather some Natural Energy. However, as soon as the duo's eyes landed on him, a wry smile appeared on his face.
"Too bad, I was hoping I could pull something off while you were stuck in your drama. Oh well, I might disagree with whatever you are plotting, but I still wish you good luck, not as a shinobi but as your friend."
Madara hesitated for a split second before regathering his resolve and smashed a seal-covered hand into Hashirama's chest. He might not be as proficient as an Uzumaki, but sealing an unmoving body away was no big deal for him.
"Shut up, you sentimental fool!"
"HAHAHA, SEE YOU IN THE PURE LAND, MADARA!!!"
Madara clicked his tongue at Hashirama's annoying personality and focused back on Obito.
"Can it be reactivated?"
Obito couldn't help but grit his teeth when he heard Madara's question. After all, the collection involved a lot of failures.
"We failed to fully capture the Ichibi, Hachibi, and Kyuubi. We have most of the Nanabi and have the remaining beasts fully captured."
Madara couldn't help but frown when he heard Obito's summary. Frankly, that was pathetic. He could see why there was some trouble capturing the Kyuubi since he himself couldn't do it in his current state, but how in the world did they even manage to fail in capturing the Ichibi?
Madara glanced to his left and spotted the Ichibi's Jinchuuriki standing in the middle of the battlefield, flooding everything with sand.
'Should I capture him right now and add him into the Gedo Mazo?'
Madara chuckled at his own idle thoughts and dusted off his clothes.
"Well then, do it, Obito. For peace."
"For peace. [Kuchiose no jutsu]."
Suddenly, a gigantic smoke explosion occurred, and an eardrum-rending roar echoed over the battlefield.
Before anyone could realize what was happening, a creature whose size could only be described as titanic appeared on the battlefield, scaring the lives out of anyone present.
While Kurama's hundred-meter tall form was imposing, this creature was on a totally different level as it easily towered over a kilometer tall. Each of his two hands was easily taller than a fully grown Bijuu, and it had a menacingly-looking single eye centered above a colossal mouth that could easily swallow something of Kurama's size.
If anyone still had any doubts about the identity of the titanic beast, it had ten tails chaotically swinging behind it, leaving no doubt about its identity: The Juubi.
The shinobi present couldn't help but blanch when they saw the colossal beast. They had already lost morale when facing Madara's 100-meter tall Susanoo, and now they were supposed to attack something ten times its size? No matter how they looked at it, that was impossible.
Meanwhile, the Kage couldn't help but be in disbelief when they saw the monstrosity before them. They were told about the Juubi and supposedly knew most of the relevant information about it, but they never expected its size to be this extravagant.
Even Naruto could only look at the giant creature in shock. He was more prepared than anybody else to face what was about to come, but when he saw the Bijuu's real form, he couldn't help but have some doubts about this whole situation.
'Was it really a smart thing to allow them to summon this monster? Can we really fight and win against it? With this kind of size, even nee-san should feel at least a little shocked, right?'
Naruto glanced at Yuna and almost soiled his pants when he saw her facial expression. He had never seen Yuna make such a crazy face before, nor did he believe it was possible to display so many extreme emotions simultaneously.
Excitement, greed, battle-thirst, joy, and most importantly: pride. Pride in who she was and what she is sure she will become. All of that was somehow discernable on her face.
And moments later, Yuna started cackling in glee as she eyed the Juubi like it was a juicy piece of meat.
'You should have told me about this, Kurama.'
[Huh? About what?]
'That the Juubi is entirely made out of malicious Natural Energy.'
[Is that of any importance?]
'Of course it is, you dummy. Do you know what we called a being like this in my previous life?'
Although Kurama had digested a lot of information about Yuna's previous life by now, this wasn't one of them, so he only shook his head, resulting in a face-splitting grin appearing on Yuna's face.
"IT'S A TREASURE OF HEAVEN AND EARTH!!! THANKS FOR THE MEAL!!!"
run juubi, run, crazy cultivator behind you!
Yuna go nom
omnomnom
I really hope she makes a giant ice Paxman. Seems her style
You would think the species of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki would try a more self sustaining method of gathering chakra than just draining the planet dry (ecocide on a planetary scale) and committing mass genocide? After all, if they eased up on the God Tree’s absorption capacity and regularly took chakra from people at certain intervals, it seems like you would get much more than just cutting down a garden and salting the earth. Or is there some kind of esoteric and metaphysical reason why they cannot do such a thing like “it has to be drained completely to get the core” or something like that?
Just saying that with all the time they spend flying through space (and being able to teleport as long as they know the coordinates or put some kind of seal) that they can freaking afford to take things relatively slow and consistently. Wouldn’t even be hard to set up a cooperative native populace as Kaguya showed through overwhelming force and guidance. Such a system would even allow more of the clan to partake in a greater variety of genetic material as generally only one person gets to eat the damn fruit made from the planetary essence and all living creatures. Plus the clan would be more united instead of just drifting in pairs. Well I’m just a critic whose knowledge of them is limited to the first series so maybe there would be some justifications instead of a shortsighted viewpoint like the Hyuga clan.
From what I understand, the Ōtsutsuki have a finite amount of Chakra. A lot of it, but still a limited amount. Which is why they do this, it doesn't just make them stronger, it restores what they have used.
Most likely, other planets are probably similar. There is a specific amount of Chakra on the planet, therefore the greater the population, the smaller their Chakra pools. Used Chakra is then recycled and reabsorbed by the people. So no matter how long they take to steal the Chakra, the amount will never change.
The elemental nations, where the people actually produce Chakra, is a rare exception to the rule. They could get a constant sustainable source of Chakra from it, but the Ōtsutsuki are too arrogant to bother coming up with a new method to collect Chakra that can only be used on 1 in several thousand planets, even if it would be better for them in the long-term.
Most likely somewhere in their history someone did what Hagoromo was doing and taught people how to use their chakra as well and then the people became too strong at some point for whoever was guarding the tree, so they had to scrap the whole planet and rely on 1-2 fruits per tree/planet meals.
@DigimasterHiro I would have thought that chakra can be replenished as the sun gives energy to plants and such. Thus there is an outside force giving energy to what is a seemingly closed system (do not quote me on any of this as I am not a scientist who knows about energy from the sun and it’s cycle through the earth so this is very half assed guesses). Though there can be energy going out too, at the very least there is a balance that can probably be exploited if you looked.
Though regardless of whether it is a closed and finite system or there is an alternative of “planting the seed of chakra in the native populace to achieve a greater yield and renewable source” is moot as there is really too little information to go on.
What can be agreed however is that they are super arrogant as their species goal is to transcend and become “God” and you really only need one almighty being so it is very likely that the “species” bonds between them are very weak as they constantly strive for resources and mutating to a further goal. Considering how much they mutate, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they have ended up genetically isolated from one another and can no longer reproduce conventionally (assuming they ever did). Though I bet they don’t care about such things as they have alternatives for revival and a “god” and “perfect being” has no need for making descendants as they are eternal. Makes one wonder how Kaguya, as a space alien, managed to have kids with a human? I can only assume she had assimilated enough human dna to put her in the genetic ballpark enough to get the deed done and make something.
@podlizurko Looked up on the wiki and no mention of it being tried once before (though considering they are space and dimensional travelers and thus any planets irrelevant to storyline are unlikely to be mentioned…) which shows what an outlier that world is for surviving and attaining chakra (something only their clan had) and doing so is traitorous.
After taking a quick glance (at the wiki) I theorize that their desire for achieving godhood isn’t just a cultural mandate but also a genetic compulsion (whether that was something that developed naturally or a far back progenitor messed with things to make it so) as Kaguya initially saved Earth by becoming emotionally attached to humans and the world and so betrayed her travel companion. Then she was rightfully paranoid and tried to prepare for future clan arrivals but went insane somehow (genetic compulsion growing too strong combined with stress and loneliness maybe?) and desired to take back chakra (likely draining the world in the process ironically as the original mission dictated).
Regardless of theory crafting that may or may not be true, Yuna needs to give that progenitor rabbit goddess a good pounding in more ways than one.
@Ediav42 The idea of the sun introducing energy into the system that escapes from other sources holds merit, but is built on the assumption that said energy is directly tied to creating Chakra.
In the end, all that matters is for the author of the work to create a workable system for the story, and the reader to come up with a good enough theory of the mechanism of that system to keep them invested.
All the same though, it is fun coming up with such theories.
