Darkness was all I remembered after using the forbidden spell.
‘Was I dead? Was this the afterlife? Was this the place where everyone who died ended up?’ A lot of random thoughts passed through my mind as I stared into the darkness.

What was going on here? How was I back here? I was still unable to comprehend what was happening. I looked around my university dorm. The single bed was messy as I dragged my body out of it. Did I have a nightmare?
I ran to my phone which was charging on the wall to check the date. 20/10/2010.
Argh
I pinch myself to confirm that this was not a dream. No matter how I thought about it, I could not believe it; was I back to the very start? did I experience the future? was this a second chance? Why does this feel like all those reincarnation novels I read on boxnovel during my free time? Even if it were a dream, it would not cost anything to be prepared.

I was unable to find relief for my aching head, I could only sit on my desk to attempt organising my thoughts.
2005: “COVID X” outbreak which brought the world to its knees, multiple lockdowns, and deaths. This led to the first physical evolution of humans in a very long time.
2006 - 2008: Humanitarian law to have as many kids as possible is passed, the worldwide phenomenon noticed a rapid growth rate of children. This somehow doubled the population of the world when compared to before “COVID X”
2008 - 2010: Scientist discovered that the world is coming to an end. The once abundant resources were rapidly drying up. Due to Global warming hitting a dangerous threshold, oil fields, farms, forests..., everything had dried up. With every problem, science proved its ability to always provide an alternative, a way out for humans. In these two years, technology improved at an alarming rate. The rich only thought about escaping the planet and the poor only thought about what would kill them first; the end of the world, or hunger.

I ran into my closet looking for anything that I could wear with a little thickness, where we were going fashion didn't matter. I put on a pair of old knee pads, elbow pads, and an old bicycle helmet. I found an old grey combat trousers which I used when the university had the volunteering cleaning day. The last thing was a red leather jacket.
This would do, I said as I was almost blinded by my appearance in the mirror. I had to remind myself once again, I am doing this to survive, as I gave myself a pep talk. I glanced at my watch; the time was 11:59 am.
Am I going crazy, real or fake only one minute left to find out?

A child-like voice was heard in everyone’s mind all around the world; there were language barriers preventing anyone from understanding this unique, high-pitched, sharp, and loud tone of a child.
