Jin’s POV
The Minase Corporation is finished. Quick, someone get the fireworks. So what if it’s fall right now? This calls for a celebration.

In order to celebrate, Jin went all out in their dinner tonight and bought his favorite food: steaks and lobsters. He went to a really high class butcher shop to buy two pieces of A4 Grade Miyazaki Beef Steaks, and he went all the way to the Tsukiji Fish Market just to buy two Ise lobsters. Needless to say, they were extremely expensive. In fact, it would take Jin at least one year to earn the money he spent if he were still working at the convenience store. Even so, Jin feels that the money is well spent.

“...What’s with all these extravagant food?” Nyri asks with a raised eyebrow when the food is served.

“Didn’t you watch the news? All my father’s companies were forced to close down. Lots of their senior executives were arrested too. And my father is hospitalized.” Jin replies.

“I think you’re the only one on this world and Ifezan that celebrate when something bad happened to your own family. Particularly when you’re the cause of that last one.”

“Bah, I wouldn’t do it in the first place if I would feel guilty about it.”

The two of them enjoy their meal while watching the news. At least, Jin insisted that he wants to watch the news. It could be just his imagination, but the steak he was chewing tasted extra delicious when the footage of his father lying on a hospital bed was shown.

As he had imagined, the evidence that Maebara obtained managed to sent most if not all senior executives of the company to the slammer. With them arrested, every single branches of the company are forced to close down. Thousands lost their jobs all at once. Some managed to keep their job since some branches were bought over by other companies and would love those employees to work for them. Even so, the news reported that at least 60% of them have to look for a greener pasture. In addition, the stock market is a huge mess right now since the shares of a major company has dropped to the negatives.

The news didn’t mention a thing about Maebara. It’s either they’re covering up for him, or he wasn’t arrested for stealing confidential information from the company. Either way, Jin feels that this won’t be the last of that journalist.

Jin is kind of disappointed that the news barely mentioned a thing about his mother and/or his sister. All that was said were that the creditors won’t be leaving them alone for a while. Bummer. He wanted to see the scene where they’re being harassed.

And Silver Wolf’s approval rate has dropped to 9%. Apparently, the public didn’t approve of the news about him attacking the CEO of the Minase Corporation.

“Would you like to have a press conference to address why you did it?” Sergeant Wakaba has asked him a few hours after the attack.

“No. It’s a complete waste of time, and I have better things to do with it.” he declined.

“But, you saw your approval rate, right? It has become extremely low.”

“Sergeant, if I minded something as insignificant as approval rates, I would have quit my job a long time ago. I’m not here to be the public’s idol, I’m here to clean up the street. If the people don’t like it, then they can do it themselves.” he told her bluntly.

He heard her taking a few deep breaths to calm herself.

“...Understood. We’ll try to explain things to them in your stead anyway. I doubt they would listen to or believe in us, though.”

“My apologies for constantly putting all of you through this kind of thing.”

“If you really mean it, you wouldn’t be reckless in the first place.” she told him pointedly. “Also, own up by yourself once in a while-”

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

“HEY, CHINATSU! IT’S TIME FOR DINNER!” Estyshana’s voice was heard somewhere further away.

“Just give me a few minutes. I’m in the middle of something.” Sergeant Wakaba said to the demon.

“Whatever you’re doing, make it quick! I’m starving!”

“Yes, yes. Now head down first.”

   “Okay~!”

“I still find it hard to believe that you’re letting her crashing at your place even after you found out about her true identity.” Jin said to Sergeant Wakaba.

“She wasn’t that bad to begin with. It’s more like having another kid sister. One that causes lots of headache. Well, I’m off to eat my dinner. I’ll call you if something happened again.”

   “Likewise.”

Two days have passed without any sort of major incident. On the third day, he receives a text message from Sergeant Wakaba while he’s eating lunch with the rest.

“Good afternoon, Minase-kun. Tomomi-san has sent me a message this morning. In that message, she told me that she would like to begin her training today.” the message writes.

“Good for her. Please send her my regards and take good care of her.” he writes back.

“...Why are you acting as if you have nothing to do with this? Didn’t you promise her that you’ll see to her training?”

“That was on the spur of the moment.”

“Well, you should know better than running your mouth like that if you have zero intention of seeing it through!”

“Can’t you just tell her that I changed my mind?”

“No, I will not. Who knows what kind of idiotic action will she resort to. Just come here the moment you’re done with school.”

He lets out a sigh as he puts his phone away. He shouldn’t have encouraged Date Jr in the first place. Things are going to be very troublesome from now on.

“Is something wrong, Minase-kun?” Wakaba asks curiously after she noticed him sighing.

Jin made sure to look around before answering just in case someone was listening in.

“Your sister wants me to give the Secretary some pointers so that she could better utilize her newfound powers.” he tells her.

“Oh, right, you did mention that she turned out to be you-know-who. By the way, is my sister pushing you too hard?”

“Nah, it’s fine. I guess this is part of my job too.”

He didn’t tell her about the rash promise he made since it’s too troublesome.

“You know, speaking of her, she has gotten soft these past few days. She’s still somewhat strict, but I saw her cutting some slack to some students who broke the school rules in a really minor way.” Watanabe recalls.

   “Bah, it’s probably fear.”

   “Fear? Of what?”

“Of her new power, of course. And of getting exposed. If she started judging the students harshly, she might end up accidentally showing her power in front of the students. And don’t think I’m saying something baseless. I happened to see her expression this morning. She had the look of someone who’s scared of herself.”

“Didn’t you say that you’ve sealed off her powers?” Estyshana asks.

   “I did.”

“Why is she still scared, then?”

He shrugs. “Who knows? She’s probably recalling all those times she used it to hurt people.”

“I just hope that she’ll learn from the lesson and strive to be a better person.” Wakaba says.

“Yes, everyone deserves a second chance, after all.” Ayumi agrees.

“Um, that was her second chance. Remember that incident with the taser?” Jin reminds.

“Oh, you know what I mean.”

Once the school is over, Jin heads over to the police station Sergeant Wakaba and Date were stationed to. For obvious reasons, he didn’t went there together with Date Jr.. He also wore his armor. Since he flew instead of walking or hitching a ride like a normal person, he arrived much faster than she did. He had to wait quite a while until she’s finally here.

She came here while still wearing her school uniform, and she came here alone. Her brother Date is nowhere to be seen.

“My apologies for being late.” she says to Jin and Sergeant Wakaba apologetically.

“It’s fine. We didn’t wait that long anyway.” Sergeant Wakaba tells her.

“Twenty minutes is pretty long, if you ask me.” Jin points out.

   Sergeant Wakaba glares at him.

   “Well, it’s true!” Jin insists.

   The detective clears her throat.

“In any case, there’s a training room inside this police station. The two of you can use that room.”

“Fair enough. Please lead the way.” Jin requests.

The training room is like a martial arts gym. It has a ring, weight-lifting equipments and much more.

“I’ll be outside since I’m still on duty. Please call me if you ever need anything.” Sergeant Wakaba tells them before she leaves.

Once she has left, it’s time to get down to business.

“So, where should we begin?” Date Jr. asks.

Jin thinks about it for a while.

“We’ll concentrate on your combat prowess for now.” he eventually says.

   “But, what about my ability?”

“It has to be put on hold for now. After all, your ability has that restrain of only working on those who did something wrong. Also, we know too little about it. Can it affect non-humans too? How strong are the chains? How many can you bind at a time? All these have to be answered first for us to come up with ways to improve it.”

   “I guess that’s true…” she agrees grudgingly.

“Don’t worry about it too much for now. Next time there are monsters or whatnot that appear, you can test your powers on them. Now let’s begin on your combat training-”

His glance falls on her uniforms.

   “-after you got changed.”

Date Jr. left the room for a while so that she could get changed into her school tracksuits. She then begins to do warm up.

“Do you have any experience in using weapons? You know, like pole, katana or naginata?” he asks as she’s doing that.

She shakes her head. “None at all.”

   “What about stamina?”

“That I have plenty. I’ve participated in several marathons and completed them successfully, even though I haven’t won in any of them.”

“How far did you have to run?”

   “50km.”

“I guess that’s one less thing to worry about, then.”

It didn’t take Date Jr. to be done with her warm up. Jin touches her forehead with his index finger to remove the seal he placed on her so that she could use her ability again.

“Bring out your hammer.” Jin tells her.

She did as told, and her sledgehammer appears on her hand.

   “Give it to me.”

Wordlessly, she passes the hammer to him. He takes it with his hand and swings it around tentatively. It’s technically weightless, even though its head is even bigger than Jin’s. However, the evidence given by the news proved that it can still cause a fair amount of damage.

“Well, this is bad. This weapons of yours can be used by anyone. It would spell trouble if it got taken and used against you.” he says.

“I’ll train hard so that it will never happen.” its owner says in a determined way.

He passes back the hammer to her.

“I’m glad that you’re being this enthusiastic about it. Now let’s get started.”

   She bows at him.

“I shall be in your care.” she says in a humble manner.

Jin doesn’t like to use two-handed hammers, but it doesn’t mean that he has no experience in it. At least, he has more experience than Date Jr.. the lesson begins with simple instructions, such as how to use it more effectively.

“Hammers are usually difficult to use since they’re heavy, but that doesn’t apply to yours. You can use this to fool your opponent into thinking that each swing will take a while, or that you’ll be too weak to handle it, thus underestimating you.” he tells her.

   She furrows her eyebrows.

“I’m not really into winning fights by lying to my enemies.”

“Listen, being in a fight is not just about bashing each other up. Psychological warfare is pretty useful too. If you do it well, you can win without fighting.”

“So, does that mean I should practice some deception as well?”

“You definitely should. I have to say, though. It would only works on opponents much weaker than you. Those with lots of experience won’t be fooled. Well, enough talk. It’s time for you to start using that hammer of yours.”

Jin coach Date Jr. on how to execute proper attacks and blocks. He taught her on how to fight without weapons in case the situation requires it. The second part is more difficult since she’s a complete beginner. Jin figure that she would have to master it at her own pace.

He scans her using the Eye of Truth. So far, her mana pool is similar to Aldenia’s. He said so far since Date Jr. here obtained mana by an artificial method. Maybe it would become bigger in the future, maybe it will not. Depending on the situation, she can learn Spells too. He would have to see.

Around an hour later, Sergeant Wakaba appears at the entrance.

“May I speak with you for a moment, Silver Wolf?” she requests.

   “Please give me a moment.”

   He looks at Date Jr..

“Swing that hammer 500 more times while being cautious of your forms and everything that I told you.” he instructs.

   “Understood.”

Once the instruction has been given, Jin walks over to the entrance.

“How may I help you, sergeant?” he asks.

   “Well, another one appeared.”

“Already? What did he or she do?”

   “He turned himself in.”

   “...I beg your pardon?”

“It’s true. He walked in just a few minutes ago and said that he received a syringe which he injected himself with. He also said that he started to have supernatural power a single night later.”

“And you’re positive that he’s not lying?”

“He seems sincere enough. None of his body language is signaling that he’s not telling the truth. In any case, we need you to verify the truth.”

“All right, I’ll head over right now. Continue with what you’re doing while I’m gone, Date!”

   “Understood.”

Jin was slightly surprised to find out that he’s face to face with that employee of the bookstore he went with Aldenia that one time.

“This is Kubo Kinzo, age 23. He’s an employee of a well-known bookstore chain.” Sergeant Wakaba introduces.

“Um, hello.” Kubo greets Jin timidly.

Jin goes straight to the point. He checks out the man with his Eye of Truth. Sure enough, there are traces of mana inside his body.

“He was telling the truth.” he tells Sergeant Wakaba.

She sighs. “I was afraid of that.”

She proceeds to sit down opposite him. Jin is fine with standing. Right now, he’s leaning on the wall while crossing his arms.

“I need to know this. Why did you turn yourself in?” Jin asks Kubo.

“I, um, I feel like I need to get arrested before I fell in to the temptation of using my powers to do something I shouldn’t.” he replies without making eye contact.

   “What exactly is your power?”

“Um, it’s kind of hard to explain. Wait, no, it’s easy to explain. Well, it’s a pretty embarrassing one…”

   “Go on.” Jin encourages.

Kubo took a few deep breaths before finally answering.

“I can mind control girls and make them into my personal maids.”

A few seconds of silence. Sergeant Wakaba is looking at Jin while a look that demands explanation. He gestures her to be patient.

“So, you hypnotized a girl to convince her that she’s your maid?” he asks Kubo to clarify.

The man shakes his head. “No, it just happened. After the night I injected myself with the syringe, she just appeared at my door while wearing her work uniform.”

“Ah, so she’s working at a maid cafe? How convenient.”

“At first, I thought it was a prank. How else would she knows the address of where I live? As the days go by, however, I realize that she was really under the influence of my power. I mean, she always did as I said, no matter how ridiculous my orders were.” Kubo continues.

He quickly raises up his hands and look at Sergeant Wakaba.

“Just so you know, I didn’t order her to do anything indecent, okay? At the most, I told her to do a really embarrassing dance while being recorded.” he says to her.

“What kind of dance, to be exact?” Jin asks curiously.

   “The Dojou Sukui.”

Jin feigns a gasp. “You monster.”

   Sergeant Wakaba glares at him.

“Is that important right now?” she demands.

“I guess not. Do continue, Kubo-san.”

“There’s nothing for me to continue, though. I just got scared and decided to surrender myself, that’s all.”

“Are you sure it’s alright to just give up on your power just like that?” Jin asks.

   A pause.

“Y-Yes, of course it is. I’m not supposed to have it in the first place.”

“What was that pause, then? And you were stuttering.”

“The point is, I’ve basically committed a crime. I should be behind bars.”

“Before that, where exactly is that maid of yours?” Jin asks him.

“I had her standing by at a cafe near here. I was planning to call her over to have my hypnotism or whatever hopefully removed.”

“Good. Call her over right now.”

   “Right away.”

He takes out his phone, taps the screen a few times and puts the phone close to his right ear.

“Rei-chan? Yes, can you come over? Okay, I’ll be waiting for you. And um, I’m inside Room 3.”

“She’ll be here soon.” he reports once he puts down his phone.

“Good. Let’s wait for her, then.”

The Rei person arrived around ten minutes later. As usual, Jin scans her with the Eye of Truth.

“Hmm, this is surprisingly intriguing…” he mumbles as he’s doing that.

“What exactly do you see?” Sergeant Wakaba asks.

He points his left index finger at Rei-san, then at Kubo.

“It’s very faint, but these two are connected by a thread made of mana.” he explains.

   “Um, meaning?” Kubo asks.

“Meaning, she’s not hypnotized by you. Rather, she’s your familiar.”

“What? But she’s not a creature or whatever!”

“When it comes to familiars, it’s not only limited to monsters and stuff. Besides, this is probably a unique magic only usable by you.”

“Is that how she managed to find me? Because we’re, well, connected?”

“I would assume that’s the case. It’s either that or she used her own way to find your address.”

All of them look at her. She returns the stare passively.

“I think you need to ask her, Kubo-san.” Jin prompts.

“Oh, right. How exactly did you even found my address, Rei-chan?”

“I’m not sure myself, master. I just woke up that day, and I somehow knew.” she answers.

“Yup. She’s your familiar, all right. That’s the function of the thread, so that she could find you no matter where you are.” Jin concludes.

“This is getting out of hand. There’s way too many information for my tiny brain to handle.” Kubo mumbles.

“Ah, don’t worry about it too much. It won’t matter once I seal off your power.”

   Suddenly, Rei-san looks downright murderous.

“I see that you’re planning to harm my master.” she says to Jin coldly.

Before any of them could react, her fist is already flying towards Jin’s chest.
