Well, that’s a lot of side stories lately, but because of its purpose, it can’t be helped. Coincident? Yeah.

Well shit, it’s already snowing.

The weather is not supposed to be this cold this time of the year, but unusual things have been happening on Earth lately. For example, the disappearance of one of the most populated cities in the United States, or increased tsunamis in Japan, or subzero temperature in Central Africa, so the situation I’m in is much less strange than those mentioned.

Anyway, I’m standing in the city of Beijing, and I’m heading towards the Communist party Congress1I hope that Google translate is correct. My purpose? To assassinate the Chinese leader, Fan Shao. It seems that my government is pretty spicy with the attacks in Hanoi, so they want to teach this big ass a lesson.

Of course, this task is challenging to pull off. One might say this is a suicide mission; it’s the Chinese leader we’re talking about, after all. Nevertheless, there is a solution to anything, and I have a good plan for this.

First, I have to thank the sudden blizzard a lot. Although I’m wearing nothing but a cloak right now, it will be hard to spot me if I can stand the cold.

Before commencing, I’ve scouted and memorized every snipers’ location around the congress. Next, I climb the top floor of a building and use my katana to slice the throat of a sniper, then dumped the corpse down a bin in an alleyway 100 meters below.

The same thing happens to the other snipers, I move to the next target by jumping to another building, or people might say parkour. There’s no need to worry about drones because they’re disabled beforehand or helicopters because they’re allies.

After soaking my sword with the blood of 47 people, I go to a spot that is overlooking the back of the congress building.

I prepare my weapon, a custom sniper rifle made by Minh. I don’t know how he made this thing, but it’s a good gun. The silencer system is so good that the sound it creates is not much louder than a crossbow.

Since this building doesn’t have windows like any sensible person would design, the plan is to aim at a spot on the wall that the target is expected to be at, then a spy will get inside to track the target’s movement and announce me when they get into place.

And by the way, the person who’s chosen to be the spy is Minh. I feel kinda proud that my boyfrie-, I mean, my discipline to be placed in this particular position.

I check the build-in clock on my communicator. How much time has passed? Hmm… Around one hour, so the target should be in the spot by now.

Then, his voice can be heard on the device. “Agent Mai, the target is moving towards the location. I estimate he will be there in ten seconds.”

I quickly ready my gun as soon as I heard the sentence. I even think of a route to escape after firing at that moment.

“Target has arrived. Fire, now.”

Immediately, I take aim and shoot at a tiny cross marked for me, then put the gun into a case and run away without wasting any second.

“Headshot, he is undoubtedly dead.”

Then another voice can be heard. “Mission successful. Agent Mai and Minh, you have to escape the city as fast as possible.”

It’s frigid, and I’m not wearing much because I didn’t have time to come back and take winter clothing. The sudden blizzard obstructed my view and my breathing. Still, I manage to jump onto multiple buildings and get down the street by dropping from the balconies.

Almost there!

I’m close to getting out of the city and the meeting place, but then multiple tanks, armored vehicles, and soldiers show up surrounding me from all sides.

Damnit! Where do I go?

Seemingly out of options, I dived into the thick layer of snow on the street and crawled under it to escape.

I can’t see anything, also it’s freezing here, but I have to put up with it and rely on my ears to navigate and avoid people and tanks.

After being under the snow for half an hour, I get up, making sure that no threat is nearby, and navigate my way to the meeting position.

“Mai, what is taking you so long?” Minh asked through my communicator.

“Unexpected enemies showed up, so I had to sneak through them slowly. I’m going there as fast as I can.” I replied.

Running on thick snow is not easy, and I notice my body shaking heavily, slowing me down; I guess it’s because I stayed in the cold for too long. Alright, I’m definitely going to be admitted into a hospital.

Despite all that, I still arrive at the place and see a car with Minh inside waiting for me.

I get in the car and slump down on the seat next to Minh.

“You don’t look so good, Mai. What happened?” He asks me while driving the car.

I raise my shirt, which is wet and covered in snow. “You curious? Imagine getting buried in ice wearing these clothes.”

“I’d prefer not to. Anyway, the city has closed down, and soon the whole province will also be, but we have some time.”

“Yeah, of course, they can’t make public that news yet, or else the whole population will panic.”

He takes some food out and hands it to me. “Wanna have some steam buns? I made it myself. It will take some time to get to the border, so chill.”

I hold the buns in my hands and take a bite. It’s not different to those sold on the streets, maybe a bit tastier since he knows my taste. “Wow, when did you learn how to make this?”

“A week ago. I worked hard for today since it’s a day for you. Happy Vietnamese women's day.”

“Oh, totally forgot about this.

“Hahaha, that’s the Mai I’m familiar with.”

“Say that again.”
