After we had recovered from the tickle torture session, Mother left to go do whatever it is that she had planned for today, I decided it was time to put my own plans into action. I thought I’d go and see the fairy who makes our clothes for us first. That one might take a little bit of time since they’d have to be made. Instead of standing up off of the floor, I just shifted into my wisp form and zoomed off to my destination.

The ancient Fairy I was going to see was apparently the oldest of our kind and my Grandmother, I call her Grams. She’s supposed to be over fifteen thousand years old and according to Fairy history otherwise known to me as fairy tales, she was also supposed to have been there at the very beginning time. I’m not sure how it all works with my previous world supposedly being millions of years old but this one is only 15,000. The tales told say that one moment the world didn’t exist and then it did. For a creation myth, it certainly left a lot to be desired. At least not from our Fairy Tales. No mention of Gods creating life or anything like that. I did ask Grams and Gramps once, they said that horror stories like that were for another time when I was older. I’m kind of interested in discovering what other cultures have to say about it, and whether or not gods are real in this world.

I had to travel for a good 20 minutes before arriving at the biggest tree in Fairy. It kind of reminded me of that giant tree in the sci fi movie Avatar. There was a grand total of five villages that fairies live in within Fairy itself. Four of them were roughly evenly spaced out around the fifth central one. Although villages isn’t quite the correct word. Probably closer to cities based on population sizes, but instead of skyscrapers it’s the giant Arnkora Trees. The First Tree is supposedly the exact centre of Fairy and where Grams and Gramps live. Fairies don’t have a central government, nor really any sort of government really but if there is anyone said to be any kind of Fairy rulers, it was those two. I didn’t really care about that, Grams makes the best clothing in all of Fairy! But even more importantly, has the best hugs.

I had long since had to drop my wisp form because I’d run out of mana. It was unfortunate since the tree was so large and so tall it took me nearly as long to reach the top as I did flying here from my village. I actually had to land and dropped to my knees to get my breath back from the exertion. We were so high up that the air was actually thin enough to make it slightly harder to breathe. Certainly made it harder for me to get my breath back.

“Almost exactly on time my girl, didn’t I tell you she’d be here soon dearest?” Someone who sounded a lot like Grams said from behind me. “Although your fitness levels are atrocious. Tsk tsk. You’ll have to work on that”

“That you did dear,” I heard another voice from within the tree agree with a soft chuckle. I had landed on one of the convenient little branches that grew out from near the top. It gave access to the hollowed top of the great tree, where Grams and Gramps live. I turned around and saw Grams perched on the end of the small branch, all zen style, but with a warm smile on her face for what I liked to think of as her favourite granddaughter.

“Grams!” I shouted happily as I picked myself up and literally threw myself into her arms for a hug. “Oof, look at you dear. You’ve all grown up and become a beautiful Fairy. Just as I knew you would. Come on, let’s go inside and see the old geezer. I bet he’d appreciate a hug as enthusiastically as that too.”

“Okay!” I happily agreed with a big smile on my face as I loosened my grip but didn’t let go on Grams.

“I heard that!” We both heard from inside the tree, Gramps voice echoed a little bit as it reached us. “You’re older than me, old lady.”

“I’m surprised you heard anything with how rickety you’ve been lately. Honestly it’s a little cool outside but you’re acting like there is a blizzard.” Grams muttered, mostly to herself it seems. I couldn’t help but giggle at their behaviour. They were always acting like they were about to kick the bucket any day but to look at them you’d never guess that. Both of them didn’t look older than mid twenties on a human from my old world. Grams had her light pink hair up in a messy bun, with several strands that had fallen down framing her youthful face. I was practically plastered to her side as we flew through the gap and into the tree.

The hollow area opened up into a fairly large room, way too big for two Fairies to occupy. As I looked around, I saw many desks and even a whole bunch of old unused nests around the room. From what I remember, The Hollow was used as the meeting place of [Guardian Fairies] and other important Fairies in times of great or dire circumstances. Apparently it had only been used a few times in all of Fairy history. The last time was about 4,000 years ago. A great many Fairies lost their lives during that period if I recall.

“Hey sweet girl!” The voice of Gramps distracted me from my somber musings. As soon as I saw him I let go of Grams and launched myself at my Grandfather. “Gramps!” I yelled as I tackle-hugged him then snuggled into his warm embrace as his strong arms wrapped around me like a gentle reassurance that all's right with the world.

Standing there with the two of them, I could feel power almost literally radiating off of them. Since they are both leagues ahead of me in power, I have absolutely no idea just what their Power Level was but it was immense. Far more than anyone else I have ever met and that included all of the guardians.

“So what brings you to our humble abode Granddaughter?” He asked me with a knowing tone in his voice. My stomach did happy flip flops from being called granddaughter, then I frowned slightly before hiding it with my face pressed into Gramps’ chest. They couldn’t suspect something could they?

“Can’t I see my grandparents without any particular reason?” I hedged, as I stepped away from the hug I tried to look all innocent and cute, eyes open wide and arms swinging to and fro. From the grins on their faces I had only partially succeeded.

Grams grabbed my hand and dragged me into the room off of the side of The Hollow that they used for their nest. Just like every other fairy home it had a nest, basically a large bowl shaped object that you sleep in with pockets hanging off of the sides to store random important items. It was made from entwined sticks and leaves. The only other thing in the room, besides a few unimportant nicknacks, was a stand that held their armour on it. The pink and white one was Grams’s and the light blue one was Gramps. I always loved checking them out. They seemed to be made of some kind of metal, wood and leaves and looked very light even though they looked almost like plate armour but not quite. I stepped up to them and inspected them. I hadn’t been able to until I unlocked my class.

I gulped as I read the descriptions of the armour. I suspected either my inspection skill or my Power Level wasn’t high enough to glean any more information from the gear than what I could already see and what I could see was already enough to amaze me. I could see enchantments from several different languages all over them both, including in Fairy and it lit up like a beacon when I focused my magic sense on them. I would be willing to bet that something like this would boost the wearers Power Level by a lot.

“Wow these are amazing, even more so now that I can inspect them” I couldn’t help but say to my grandparents.

“Quit stalling kiddo and ask us what you came to ask.” Grams said as she stepped up and hugged me from behind. It was comforting, although there couldn’t be many hugs that weren’t. Unless being touched was an issue for you of course.

“I just wanted to see if you’d make me a new set of clothes, these ones seem to be already getting a little tight.”

“Hmm, is that all you wanted to ask?” She asked in a tone that implied she already knew everything and was just waiting for me to spill the beans in an effort to be in less trouble or something. Or I was just reading too much into it out of nervousness. Coming here had probably been a mistake now that I think about it. Anyone able to survive for as long as these two had to be hard to fool.

“You didn’t want to ask for your own set of armour, or perhaps how to become an adventurer?” Grams continued, holding my back tightly to her chest, although not too tight that it hurt my wings. I gasped and turned enough to look up at Grams smirking face. She knew! How did she know? Come to think of it, she did seem to be expecting me today. How she would know that I’d come, let alone today of all days, I didn’t know but I was curious to find out.

“How did you know?” I asked with a tremble in my voice, accompanied by a tremble of my lower lip. “And how did you know I’d come today of all days?” I asked, putting word to thought.

“We knew because of your class dear, it was only a matter of time and then after yesterday’s excitement we both knew it wouldn’t be long. Your grandfather said sometime in the next few days, but I knew, I knew it would be today. You were always too curious about the classes and too spirited not to come today. I see you got some experience as well, that’ll help a lot.”

I just stood there, my mouth opening and closing like a goldfish. Too stunned to reply as my brain froze, trying to process the turn of events. Finally after what felt like hours but was probably less than thirty seconds, I was finally able to respond. “I guess you’re going to send me home and tell me to forget about any of this nonsense right?” I despondently ask, looking down at my feet sadly. I barely got anywhere before getting caught!

My grandfather snorted as he put a hand on my shoulder in a comforting gesture. “Hardly,” he said with a grin on his face, “we’re going to help you escape.”

“I’m sorry, please don’t tell Mother. I won’t try to… Wait, what?!”
