Redcliffe was a undiscovered forest in Ferelden. Tiranon Guerrin was a third son of a noble family in Negara. In universally applied nobility system, a noble title holder upon his death, could only confer his title and properties to the eldest son. Realising he had no future in Negara kingdom, Tiranon went on an adventure to the other part of the continent. He only stopped in a forest in Ferelden, where he explored the land and built several houses. Sometimes, refugees from other villages stopped by and were persuaded to live there. After years, Tiranon Guerrin founded a  village, consisted mainly of fishermen.

Redcliffe village then paid tax and tribute to Ferelden royal and noble family.

As Denerim was frequently invaded by neighboring countries, the kingdom started conscripting freeman including those who lived in Redcliffe village. The village chief, Tiranon was conscripted as well.

As Tiranon was trained and experienced warrior since his days in Negara, he made notable military accomplishments that he was promoted to the rank of Knight. After further military success, Tiranon was further promoted to baronet and then baron, and finally Viscount. The area beyond Redcliffe village was granted to him as his demesne.

Viscount Tiranon Guerrin's eldest son came late in the viscount's life, and there was much hope for the young man to follow in the footsteps of his successful father. Unfortunately, Lornan Guerrin proved to be profoundly lazy in his youth, more interested in spending his father's fortune than tending to his lands.

In frustration, the viscount ordered a fort constructed in the mountains. He sent Lornan there, stating that his son could return to Redcliffe only when the bandits that lurked in the mountains had been brought to heel.

The constructed fort was then called as Winterwatch Tower. It was constructed by Arl Tiranon Guerrin, to serve as a temporary residence for his eldest son Lornan. As Lornan had not lived up to the expectations of his father, Viscount Tiranon didn't allow him to return and tasked him with cleaning the surrounding mountains of bandits. Lornan Guerrin didn't return to Redcliffe until his father passed away and inherited the Viscount title. The keep has vacated since then.

A cult has formed in the area, taking up residence in the keep. The cult exists until present day. The cult believes that one day a saviour will come, to take its faithful followers back to the glory. Additionally, due to the ongoing war between countries, some refugees have joined the cult in hope to be safe in the mountains, further away from the conflict area.

As this place was far from Redcliffe castle, two days of walking distance, it was ignored by Viscount.

Guerrin family made treaty with neighboring noble from Olga Federation to treat area along Winterwatch Tower as border between Federation and Ferelden. The people who resides in the area are treated as neither citizens of Ferelden nor Federation.

When Lornan's grandson, Rendorn Guerrin became the Viscount, various territories of Ferelden including Redcliffe were conquered by Federation. The Ferelden king, Brandel Theirin was assassinated and Federation installed a noble who betrayed the kingdom as a puppet king.

After her father's death, Moira Theirin was responsible for first inspiring the rebellion against the Olga occupation of Ferelden, personally leading it until her death. Charismatic and determined, Moira gained the support of some of the most powerful Fereldan nobles including Rendorn Guerrin for her rebellion purely through the confidence she inspired.

Moira was a widow of a prince from a distant land and she had teenage son, Maric Theirin.

Rendorn would be Moira's right-hand man and commander of her rebel army for the rest of her life with a pledge that Maric would marry his daughter.

Rendorn's first child was a daughter, Rowan. Two years later, he had a son, Eamon who later inherited his title.

The Rebel Queen, Moira was assassinated by nobles collaborating with Olga who initially pretended to defect to her cause. The puppet King, Meghren had her head mounted on a pike and displayed as both trophy and warning before the gates of the Denerim Royal Palace. Maric avenged his mother's murder three years later, luring her killers into an ambush by promising them amnesty in exchange for their support. When he killed Meghren, Maric put his head on a pike as the usurper had hers.

As promised, Maric married Rendorn's eldest child, Rowan. Upon becoming king, Maric conferred the title Marquis to Rendorn. Five years before his death, Rendorn got his youngest child, Teagan.

Upon his eighteen birthday, King Maric conferred him the title of Count.

Teagan is one of best fighter in Redcliffe. He is now thirty years old.

Eamon Guerrin has two sons from first wife who has passed away, Jeremy and John, both in their twenties.

Eamon has a son, Connor from Isolde, the young wife.

Eamon, Teagan, Jeremy and John participated in invasion across Arkland's border.

"John...John..." Jeremy is sobbing while trying to wake his elder brother John, who is no longer moving.

John suffered serious wounds from his opponents and seems to just die from blood lost.

"How could this happened?" Jeremy stands up.

His right hand is holding a sword but his mind is no longer in this world.

"Father. Where are you? John is dead."

Jeremy cackles as if he has lost all reason.

“Hyahyahya!! HYAHAAHA! Hya…hah?”

A damp sound is heard from Jeremy’s chest. Terrified, he looks down — and found a piece of edged metal poking out. A red stain is gradually growing larger. He realizes the lukewarm fresh blood is his own, and screams like a girl.

“Ah…ah…AAAAHHHHH!!”

“Hm? Oh, you’re still alive?”

It is a woman’s perplexed voice. Jeremy fearfully turns around and finds a navy-haired maiden, who is taller than him.

She innocently says,

“I thought I found a walking corpse, so I decided I had to do the merciful thing and send them to the afterlife…but you’re just a survivor, aren’t you. To point a blade at someone whose lost all will to fight is a warrior’s shame…that was careless of me.”

Jeremy's words are hard to come out,

“Y-You…are…”

Jeremy has seen the woman before: she is Irijina Wolls, a member of the Arkland Knights and daughter of Wolls family.

His father, Eamon Guerrin used to arrange marriage between Jeremy and this daughter of Wolls.

However, last year, the whole family was killed in a mysterious incident and without male heir, the Wolls family ceased to exist.

Then, Eamon cancel the engagement between Jeremy and Irijina.

With a sigh, Irijina pulls her spear blade out of Jeremy’s body.

“Ghah…!”

“Well, no use crying over spilt milk. I’ll pray for you, so forgive me, all right?”

“What…are you…”

Blood gushes from Jeremy’s mouth.

(NO!! I still haven’t become the Marquis!! I haven’t avenged him!! I can’t die in a place like this…!)

“N…no…I don’t want to…die…”

“Hmm, well, that’s a problem. The battlefield is the graveyard of those who do not want to die, though, as they say. Just imagine that you’ve bumped into a grim reaper and give up.”

“No…I can’t…”

Tears well at Jeremy’s eyes. Ambition, revenge, everything vanishes like mist, as life abandons the body of the young man, second in the line of succession for Marquis for Redcliffe.

After offering a silent prayer for Jeremy, Irijina walks to continue her search of the battlefield.

“This…can’t…why did I…”

(If it was going to be like this…I shouldn’t have joined the battlefield in the first place…!)

Jeremy Guerrin draws his last breath, his mind occupied by regrets.

Irijina, her back turns towards him, cocks her head.

“I wonder who that was, anyway. He kind of acted like he knew me…hmm, can’t remember.”

Irijina has taken the life of the mastermind behind her former fiance' — without knowing.
