Brian POV
This takes place in the morning of the 2 Alice chapters
So as the timing is a little messed up, I’ll add it as a spoiler here. Brian took down the Sword-horn bull in the evening of the day they came into the dungeon. That is also when the giant ferret appeared and began making its way towards Alewatch. Then Brian took his sleep after that and we are now in the next morning. So Alice is currently registering at the guild.
As I was watching over the dungeon core, I realized that my founder’s terminal had changed slightly. Like the master’s terminal that Christina has, it also has one card slot on it even when not in combat mode. I guess that will be useful when I only need to summon one monster, like when I’m traveling on Overdrive or one of my dragons.
(Laura, when did this happen?)
(I don’t know so it likely happened when you were in level-up sleep.) Laura told me.
(Oh yeah, you also sleep during that.)
(I wouldn’t call it sleeping.) Laura said.
(Well it’s close enough to sleep.)
(If you say so, Master.)
I took another look at the founder’s terminal and activated the combat mode. And it had changed as well.
Instead of the DiaDhank that it was, it now resembled a GX era duel disk, but it was made of the same gold material that the terminals were made of. Well, it didn’t have the bulky arm part that holds the deck and graveyard, but the ‘blade’ of the duel disk was basically the same. That meant I now had access to five monster slots and five spell/trap slots. And even a field zone. Sadly activating combat mode removes the one slot I had on the bracer itself, so I didn’t get six monster zones, but perhaps once I acquire link monsters it will be my extra monster zone.
The duel disk also had five gems in the area between the two halves of the duel disk. They looked like small gems, but they were completely colorless. Perhaps they are something like monster cores.
[Kind of looks like this, but more plain. (If a gold duel disk can be called ‘plain’.) The bulky arm part is not there, and the large red gem is replaced with 5 smaller (about the size of the green gems) translucent gems. No other gems are present on the duel disk.]
(Master, I think you should also take a look at the Pack Opener skill. It has gotten something new as well. And you also have your daily tokens.) Laura said to me.
(Something new? What could that be? I don’t think I unlocked any new sets.)
[Pack Opener] |
[Collection] |
[Sleeve maker] |
[Summoning Challenge] (new) |
[Promo Trade] (new) |
[Instructions] (+1) |
[Set lists] |
[Open Packs] |
… two new things? I guess that’s nice. There is also something in the instructions tab to look at. But why does my skill tell me what is new?
(That’s not the skill, Master. I did that.) Laura said.
(... you know you could have just said to check them out.) I argued.
(I thought you would enjoy this more.) Laura countered.
… no, I really wouldn’t. I hate seeing +1 on the information brokers. It just means I need to stop what I’m doing and go over and talk to them.
(Please don’t do it again.) I said to Laura. (If there is something I need to look at, just tell me.)
(If that’s what you want, Master.)
Now let’s check these new things out.
[Summoning Challenge] |
[Summon unique Fusion Monsters] [⅖] |
[Summon unique Ritual Monsters] [⅕] |
Okay, so the skill wants me to summon fusion and ritual monsters. Why?
(It might help the skill to evolve faster.) Laura said. (Using a skill in lots of ways is a great way of improving it. Perhaps the skill doesn’t want you to just rely on the monsters you always use.)
Wow. I’m not even maining just Blue-Eyes and the skill wants me to add variety. Well I guess I can do it. Now what do these ⅕ and ⅖ mean? I mean they mean that I’ve summoned one unique ritual and two unique fusions, but what happens when I get to 5?
[Summon unique Fusion Monsters] |
[Unique Fusion Monsters summoned: 2] |
[St. Joan, Master of Oz] |
[Next Reward is given at 5 unique Fusion Monsters] |
[Next Reward: Meteor Black Dragon + Meteor Dragon] |
So I get a reward at five unique fusion summons. That’s nice. Wonder if I get the next reward at 10? And my first reward is Meteor Black Dragon. That’s good. Not that it is stronger than Master of Oz, but it’s stronger than Blue-Eyes and it can fly, so it might be useful if I have to fight a dragon or something. Let’s check out the ritual one as well.
[Summon unique Ritual Monsters] |
[Unique Ritual Monsters summoned: 1] |
[Performance of Sword] |
[Next Reward is given at 5 unique Ritual Monsters] |
[Next Reward: Black Luster Soldier + Black Luster Ritual] |
Ooh. I can get a Black Luster Soldier. It’s not the Envoy version, but that’s cool. But I need four more ritual summons for that. But really, getting a warrior with that kind of power will be super useful. Having both him and St. Joan will be super nice, and I can even summon them in the middle of town without being a Demon Lord or something. I mean they look human enough. Well, St. Joan is a fairy.
Oh yeah, there is also the sword of Black Luster Soldier to consider. If I get him, I can analyze his sword and recreate it with the dungeon. I’ve not made my own sword yet, as I don’t really know what style I want to go for, but having more options would be nice.
And if I got Buster Blader and Dark Paladin, I could analyze the sword staff of Dark Paladin. That might be nice for Alice. Then again, it might be a little much for her at the moment. Perhaps attaching a sword blade to get current crescent moon staff would be better.
Now then, time to check out the Promo Trade thing.
[Promo Trade] |
[Trade in cards of the same type to gain a promo card.] |
[Promo Sets Available: |
McDonald's Promotional Cards |
So I can get some promos. I guess that could be nice. But the wording for the ‘trade in’ sounds questionable. I wonder how much they cost.
I opened the available promos and checked them out. Most of them are … garbage, but Cosmo Queen and Millennium Shield are nice. The shield especially. I want one.
Trade in 5 ‘Warrior’ type monsters for one ‘Millennium Shield’? |
[▼][▼][▼][▼][▼] |
So I need to sacrifice five warriors for a shield. Let’s check the Cosmo Queen as well.
Trade in 8 ‘Spellcaster’ type monsters for one ‘Cosmo Queen’? |
[▼][▼][▼][▼][▼][▼][▼][▼] |
So I need 8 for Cosmo Queen. I guess it’s just equal to the level of the monster. Well I don’t really need Cosmo Queen at the moment, but Millennium Shield would be nice. A great defensive wall and I could use it to gain shield skills. I think.
(Laura, can you pick the five warriors?)
(Master, how about opening the packs first. That way I have more to choose from.) Laura answered.
(Oh yeah. I haven’t done that yet. I also need to check the instructions. Let’s check that out next, then packs, then Millennium Shield and finally some toploaders for the new cards I want to use.) I decided.
[How to open packs] |
[Summoning monsters] |
[Using Spells] |
[Setting Cards] (new) |
[Sleeves and Toploaders] |
[Installing Cards] |
[Card summoner] |
Setting cards? As in setting them face-down? That … Well, how does that work?
[You can set any Flip-Monster, Quick-Play Spell or Trap Card. Cards set must have an activation condition and will automatically activate if the condition is met. Cards that have been ‘Set’ can only be removed by a person with equal or higher level of ‘Card Summoner’ or by a person with ‘Pack Opener’.] |
So I can set a card and it will automatically activate. That sounds super useful. In some situations.
(It’s also great for defending yourself from surprise attacks, Master. You could set Sakuretsu Armor on yourself with the condition that it will activate when someone attacks you, or when someone attacks you with the intention to kill. Sakuretsu Armor would automatically activate and kill the attacker before they could hurt Master.)
(Yeah I guess. But I would need to be careful with cards like Sakuretsu Armor. I don’t want to kill some innocent person because they play-fight against me.)
(Anyone that wants to harm Master is guilty and should be killed on the spot.) Laura said.
(...isn’t that a little extreme?)
(Master is the most important person in the world. That means that people that wish to harm you, want to harm the world itself and should be dealt with.) Laura reasoned.
(Yeah, how about no. That’s not super reasonable.) I told her. (But having a defense against lethal attacks would be nice, so maybe I could do something with that.)
(Thank you for agreeing with me, Master.)
(I didn’t agree with you. Your take was a little too extreme.) I argued. (I just want to avoid anything that can instantly kill me. Actually, if I had quick-play revival, I could resurrect myself as soon as I died, couldn’t I?)
(I suppose you could, but Master doesn't have any.) Laura said. (I also don’t want you to die.)
(Agreed. Dying sounds like not fun.)
Okay, time for some packs.

But what set to open? I guess I should go for some fusion and ritual monsters since I got the challenges for them.
(Then Master should go with Metal Raiders. It has a large quantity of fusion monsters.) Laura said.
(What about ritual monsters?) I asked.
(There isn’t a set that has multiple ritual monsters easily available, so I believe it would be better to focus on the fusion monsters.) Laura said.
(Yeah, that makes sense. Rituals really were underused in the early days. And even these days.)
Use a ‘Pack token’ to open 1 pack of ‘Metal Raiders’ |
[Yes] [No] |
Labyrinth Tank and Cannon Soldier. That’s two pieces of a fusion summon. Now I only need a Giga-Tech Wolf for that. And Giga-Tech Wolf is common. Then again, I know my luck when it comes to getting commons.
Well there is the wolf. Guardian of the Labyrinth is a material for Giltia. And Niwatori for Punished Eagle.
Summoned Skull? That’s cool. Or nice. Or amazing. Well, it’s good. And I think Black Skull Dragon is in this set as well.
And now Gate Guardian.
(Do I even have the parts for it?) I asked Laura.
(You lack Sanga of the Thunder, but you do have the other two.) Laura said.
So almost there.
Heavy Storm. That’s nice. And with Protector of the Throne, I now have the materials for Giltia the D. Knight. I need to Toploader another Polymerization to fusion summon all these monsters. Or get something like Fusion Gate.
Well, I got some fusions from the packs. Or perhaps a lot of them. I think I have enough to go for the first reward already. Probably for the second as well. If the second reward comes at ten unique summons. But before I worry about that, Dark Beginning 1.
Use a ‘Reprint token’ to open 1 pack of ‘Dark Beginning 1’ |
[Yes] [No] |
Imperial Order and Delinquent Duo? Those might do something stupid. Might need to test them out. Ground Collapse is good to have as well, now that I know a little about what it does. And Gaia the Fierce Knight is the last piece I needed to summon Gaia the Dragon Champion.
Time Seal... I should experiment with that at some point as well.
And along with Summoned Skull, Gate Guardian and even Heavy Storm. Having them is nice.
I guess next up is getting my Millennium Shield.
Brain has many great new options. Can’t wait to see what other promo card sets he unlocks and how he’s going to use the new set cards option. I’m also interested in seeing him summon a lot of fusion and ritual monsters, hope he uses Hungry Burger soon.
I'm just worried that we'll eventually get to the packs that contain my favorite archetype(s), only for none of the cards to get any limelight, and only be used for sleeve and toploader fodder.
My favorite archetype/s is/are the spirit charmer archetype, and the familiar-possessed, and etcetera that go along with them. There's several versions of the "monsters" that goes along with each attribute, and they even have LINK cards added down the line. Each attribute has a spiritual art trap card, and there are spell and traps that are related to the whole archetype.
That reminds me, though; how will you deal with cards like the familiar-possessed series that can be special summoned through sending their corresponding spirit-charmer to the graveyard? It's clear from the name and card art that they're the same "monster," so it's essentially an "evolution." Would they keep the equivalent of any skills corresponding to their lower level's effects, if they have any? And, although the card required isn't specified beyond attribute, the same goes for the awakening of the possessed series that goes with them as well.
Or what about cards that are clearly "evolutions" of other cards, but don't have special summoning requirements or effects? Like the cataclysmic charmer series in relation to the previously mention archetypes? Just install them on to "upgrade" them or something?
Oh, and what would the effects of the card Awakening of the Possessed (not to be confused with the "monsters" that all have that in their name) be? I assume it would increase the strength of all allies based on the different attributes he had summoned, as well as increase the defenses of all charmer and familiar-possessed "monsters," forgoing the draw card effects?
Wait, how would any draw card effects (besides the pots / jars, obviously) work out / what would they be replaced with?
Hm? What's that? Most of this comment is me shamelessly trying to get you interested in my favorite archetype(s)? Yeah, what about it?
Sadly, that is always a possibility. And the Familiar-Possessed have the added difficulty of being spread out over tons of sets, some of them very new. They also aren't an archetype that I know very well, so at least Brian won't be using them, but perhaps someone else might.
Draw effects really go by what card gives them. For something like Awakening of the Possessed, it could give one random archetype card. That would also increase the power of the person that uses the Familiar-Possessed, without relying on Brian to give them more cards. And if they don't have access to Brian's pile of cards, that would force them to use the ones they have in more creative ways.
Master is the most important person in the world.
She isn't wrong 😑. If Braian dies, we wouldn't be able to follow the story anymore… Well not from his point of view… @nro_8 Also: Niwatori!! Get Braian to raid that fluffy bird! I am dying to see that happening!
I now the materials for
You ate the word "have".
Hoshiningen is also a good card in this world. It gives more attack to light monsters. Also Little Chimera for fire types.
Hoshiningen and Little Chimera are basically Luminous Spark and Molten Destruction on legs.
Also I found the 'have'. It was just a bit shy.
Speaking of setting; wonder how Mysterious Puppeteer's effect would play out. IIRC, it regens 500LP for every monster summoned -- Remember it because I had it combo'd with spear cretin; eg. Would get 500~1000LP every time spear was flipped + destroyed, as long as he was on the field. Too bad I didn't have a fire princess, would also net the same amount to opponent/s.
Meatbun Delivery~
Thank you for the chapter ( ●w●)
*looks at your reply to ruiso*
Oh.. so you did thought of repurposing time seal card..
Too bad MC and Laura didnt made the connection when reviving people..
Nice pulls.
How do you keep track of all those cards lol?
YGO pro has a neat little collection feature. I learned about it watching Chaos Draft (a yugioh series on youtube that actually gave me the idea to use yugioh cards like this). With the collection feature, I can just add all cards in the pack to collection and then go from there.
@nro_8 Nice!
thanks for the chapter. Im surprised he dindt coment on gaia the fierce knight, he do have a early fusion with curse of dragon?
Yeah, he probably should have, especially given that it was the final part for summoning Gaia the Dragon Champion.
(Yeah, I went ahead and changed his reaction to the DB1 packs.)
Didn't Brain fuse a maid with a card before? Why didn't that count as a unique fission summon? That seems like exactly the sort of thing the system would want him to test.
Especially sense I'm fairly positive he's going to fuse DMG and Alice.
Because it's not part of the skill it doesn't count. It's a function the cards have, but it's not directly part of Pack Opener.
It's really just a technicality. Sorceress Jenna is a fusion, but not a fusion Monster. The skill only counts fusion Monsters summoned.
@nro_8 That's fair, though I hope the general release version of the skill acknowledges the support capabilities built into it. Being able to install and fuse people with cards is a huge buff.
What do you mean you didn't get anything, Imperial Order (UR) and Delinquent Duo (SR) both in the same pack, what is that luck...
He needs to get a Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, to become un-attackable as he negates attack and set's itself back down, so if it Top Load, he should be able to survive any direct assassinations.
Brian doesn't see it that way. But yes, they are good cards. And Ground Collapse makes areas that monsters don't want to enter, so that is powerful as well. Install into the ground and monsters no longer want to come to that area.
And Time Seal (depending on how powerful I allow it to be) could be insane. If it freezes time for everyone but the caster (or even slows time down significantly), it could allow for some BS things to happen.
@Ruiso Also, what would Delinquent Duo actually do? Make someone drop things they are holding? Brian has other cards that would achieve the same goal in combat, like Disarmament, Armor Break and Armored Glass. I guess Delinquent Duo is good for mischief, but it might not be so OP in the real world.
@nro_8 well Delinquent Duo is one of the OG banned card, so maybe drop something more untangible, like a random Skill level from two different skills of a person, maybe make it so that it can only affect a person once. If a skill is level one they loose the skill. Maybe banned discard cards could be like that, Card Destruction wipes an entire skill off of someone. Maybe it can only affect the person once two, maybe some can have the efects to manipulate level.
@Ruiso I was almost like, 'Oh god that's OP', but then I realized that Brian has Skill Drain.
@nro_8 Skill Drain, Disables all skills while in a specific area?
@Ruiso Well, what else would it do? And if it is installed, it would be a permanent 'f*ck your skills'.
@nro_8
@nro_8 would Skill Drain affect Brian's skills, maybe not Pack Opener as Skill Drain is activated through it. He needs to farm that card, would installing Imperial Order inside someone prevent them from casting Spells?
@Ruiso There are other cards that prevent magic use, so probably not.
Imperial Order (if activated) will (likely) do just that, give out an order that would be equal in power to be coming from an Emperor or other high ranking noble and if installed would give a skill like 'commanding voice'. Yes this is not what the card does, but I think it might fit better.
And an effect like that would also show it's power of being a forbidden card.
@nro_8 hope it isn't used to mind control the masses though. Though I see him using the card to do legal stuff, and meeting important people, maybe he should install Imperial Order onto himself to have the commanding voice.
@Ruiso Getting an order and following that order are two different things. Under mind control, people will follow your orders no questions asked. Under imperial order, they would likely follow orders, unless the orders are too extreme. But they don't exactly have to follow the order.
