(Brian. Wake up.) I heard Laura’s voice in my head.
I had asked her to wake me up at an optimal time, so I could open my packs before breakfast and all of that jazz. And we had to be ready to leave for the escort job at 9 am.
(Good morning, Laura. Thanks for waking me up.)
(Good morning.)
Now then. Last packs before we leave. I still don’t have a second Monster Reborn, so back to LoBY with me.

… well, Mystical Elf is a super rare, but it’s also a common in DB1. Well, I’ll still hold onto it as it is a SR. But a SR spell would have been better.
LoBY 9
Power of Kaishin, Spike Seadra, Dragon Treasure, Hinotama Soul, Drooling Lizard, M-Warrior #1,
Terra the Terrible, Swords of Revealing Light, Hane-Hane
See! Just like that. Swords of Revealing Light is super good. I can use it to hold my opponents in place for a long time. And it doesn’t even affect me. Perfection. I’ll need to shove that thing in a toploader.
Now just to get that Monster Reborn and we are golden.
LoBY 10
Two-Mouth Darkruler, Basic Insect, Monster Egg, Trial of Nightmare, Drooling Lizard, M-Warrior #1,
Dissolverock, Hard Armor, Goblin's Secret Remedy

LoBY 17
Beaver Warrior, Hinotama Soul, Nemuriko, Hard Armor, Basic Insect, Fireyarou, One-Eyed Shield Dragon, Hane-Hane, Raigeki
A second Raigeki. That’s nice, but it can’t resurrect anyone. Does anyone have a Monster Reborn to trade? I can offer a Raigeki for it.
LoBY 18
Nemuriko, Green Phantom King, Wasteland, Lesser Dragon, Petit Dragon, Misairuzame,
Silver Bow and Arrow, Metal Dragon, Monster Reborn
Yes! Yes! Yes! I got it! I have a second Monster Reborn. Victory! Thank God. It might have taken way too many packs, but I got it. And it was completely worth it.
Now, before I sleeve and toploader this thing, Dark Beginning 1 is waiting for me.

DB1 1
DNA Surgery, Skull Invitation, Mask of Weakness, Umi, Umiiruka, Chorus of Sanctuary, The Masked Beast,
Right Leg of the Forbidden One , Dancing Fairy, Minar, Senju of the Thousand Hands, Bombardment Beetle
The Masked Beast is strong, but it’s another nightmare inducing ritual monster. Why do so many ritual monsters look so scary? Are rituals evil? Probably yes.
Also, repeat Exodia piece.
DB1 2
Mask of Weakness, Shadow of Eyes, Backup Soldier, Mask of Brutality, Insect Barrier, Jam Breeding Machine,
Summoned Skull, Sword Hunter, Labyrinth Wall, Jinzo #7, Spirit of the Breeze, Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1
Summoned Skull is not bad. I do already have one, but one more won’t hurt. It being an archfiend (demon) does hurt a bit though. Sword Hunter is also nice. Had I gotten it earlier, I probably would have given it to someone else to use.
BD1 3
Magic Drain, Solemn Wishes, Fairy Box, Stop Defense, Toll, Luminous Spark, Mad Sword Beast, Gradius,
Feral Imp, Headless Knight, Hitotsu-Me Giant, Thousand-Eyes Idol
Well, after the first two, this is not as good. Still decent though. Magic Drain is not bad and I do want to try installing it at some point. Solemn Wishes is not bad either. Gradius is still too fast to give to someone else and Mad Sword Beast is sadly nothing special.
Well, that doesn’t matter. I got Monster Reborn and Raigeki from the LoBY packs, so that is more than enough.
Knock, Knock
I heard a knock at the door followed by: “Brian. Are you awake?”
Based on the voice, this is Alice.
“Yeah. I’m up.” I responded. I had already gotten dressed and everything. Sadly, Upstart and Emblem still had about 30 minutes on their cooldown, so I couldn’t activate them yet.
Alice opened the door and came in. She was dressed in an outfit that showed she was ready to go. Sturdy looking pants and high quality leather boots. A jacket that was basically leather armor. And her blond hair was tied in twin braids.
Compared to me in my jeans and hoodie, she was a lot more of an adventurer.
“Come on Brian. Let’s go eat breakfast so we can go.” Alice said.
“Yeah. Let’s go.” I agreed.
During breakfast, I had Laura go through the LoBY cards of the day to pick what to sack for sleeves. I had three spells I wanted to throw a toploader onto. Well, technically four, as I have two copies of Raigeki and neither of them has a sleeve yet. And on top of those two, Swords of Revealing Light and, of course, Monster Reborn.
5x Basic Insect, 3x Trial of Nightmare, 2x Dark Gray, 3x Nemuriko, 3x Dark King of the Abyss, 2x Fiend Reflection #2, 4x Turtle Tiger, 3x Hinotama Soul, 2x Flame Ghost, 3x Dissolverock, 4x Ray & Temperature, 3x Masaki the Legendary Swordsman, 5x Forest, 7x Wasteland, 4x Mountain, 3x Sogen, 8 Yami, 2x Tyhone, 6x Beaver Warrior, 5x Uraby, Witty Phantom, Larvas, Hard Armor, Man Eater, 2x M-Warrior #1, 3x Armaill, 5x Frenzied Panda, 4x Fireyarou, 2x Dragoness the Wicked Knight
100 sacrifices for the four spells. The one good thing about LoBY commons is that I don’t mind getting rid of them. Because most of them are just mediocre as anything.
I didn’t really even need to make this many sacrifices as I still had 5 sleeves left from yesterday, but I also didn’t even get rid of all of the LoBY commons I got today, so…
and this way I’ll still have 5 sleeves on hand if I need to sleeve something up. Or even get a toploader.
Well, now that I had the sleeves and toploaders, I applied them to four spells. Swords of Revealing Light, Monster Reborn and two Raigeki.
Perfect. My spell arsenal has improved. I still think two Monster Reborns aren’t enough, but I can still get more from the DB1 packs, so I can focus my normal tokens on something else.
(You can always aim for the ‘Spell Reproduction’ in Dark Crisis. It will allow you to reset the cooldown on your spell cards, so it effectively increases the number of Monster Reborns. And it can be used with other cards as well.) Laura reminded me.
(Yeah. I might do that.)
After breakfast, as I was picking up my magic backpack from my room, I activated both Emblem and Upstart. Upstart gave me 3 small silvers and two golds.
Laura also reminded me of another thing I should do. Setting a defensive card on myself. And the card of choice is Threatening Roar. I used my last 5 sleeves for the sleeve and toploader combo for it, before setting it onto myself.
The activation condition was being attacked with intent to harm or kill. And on activation, Threatening Roar would stun all enemies that were hostile against me.
The installed card was absorbed into my body, leaving a tattoo of the card showing where I had set it. I then took it out and set it again, just to see that I could.
Perfect. Now I’m ready to go.
“If Alice causes you any trouble, please leave her with my family and inform me. I’ll come and pick her up.” Christina told me.
“Yes. I will. But only if she causes problems.” I responded.
After some goodbye hugs between Alice and her mother, we were off.
We went towards the guild. Well, we did have one other stop on the way.
Lua and Alex needed to pick up their bags from their house, but it was almost on the way.
After that fast stop was over, we got to the guild.
The guild was almost entirely empty, like it usually was at this time of day, but our contact from Bakula company was here. I actually wasn’t expecting him to be, as we were early by over half an hour. On purpose, of course, as Lua and Alex were going to explain some details about escort quests.
And, you know, to fill up on water. I had two different magic flasks, but I agreed to sell one to Alice (Christina paid for it) for 50 gold. I think giving us the money was basically an excuse, as I did say I would let her use it for free.
Alex was looking at us with slight envy as Alice and I filled up our flasks. He had to fill up multiple smaller bottles. At least they weren’t the basic water skins. And calling them small is kind of funny, as their outside dimensions are actually larger than our flasks.
I could get you a magic flask from the dungeon, but not for free you know. And you still owe me for that magic fanny pack as well.
As we were filling our water, Lua made small talk with the Bakula company’s person that was there.
I overheard some of it, like Lua addressing him as “Mr. Timothy.” I did recognize him as the coachman that once took us to the dungeon when we activated it. I think he was also in the office with Zay when I went to get him for the wyvern attack. Based on that, he probably holds a decently high seat in the Bakula company.
“It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I’m Timothy and I will be in charge of Bakula company’s side of this trip. We have a total of four carriages that need to be kept safe all the way to Sawyer city.” He explained.
“What is our cargo?” Alex asked.
“The main cargo is lumber. We also have some other things, but they are all stored in magic bags.” Timothy answered.
“I see. I assume our travel plan is three days, correct?” Alex asked.
“Yes. With a heavy load, the horses won’t make it in two.” Timothy said.
Horses and their limited strength. If I could just hook up the carriages to Overdrive, I could probably just drive there at high speed. Well, the carriage would probably break if it wasn’t super well made.
We headed to the Bakula company’s carriage grounds and mounted up. There was a coachman and adventurer in each carriage. I was sitting in the lead carriage with Timothy. I wanted Alex or Lua to be there, but Alex said I would do best here with my summons. He went and held up the rear. Alice was in the second carriage as it had a female coach and Lua was in the third.
As we were about to leave, Christina appeared to say goodbye to Alice. She came with an entourage of five maids. Jenna, Nicole, Aneesa, Sana and one whose name I didn’t know.
After a (second) goodbye hug between Alice and her mother, we were off. And I got a system mission.
Mission: Complete the Quest |
Goal: Successfully complete your first adventuring quest. |
Reward: Opens Reprint set Dark Beginning 2. |
Opens the Promo Trades: Movie Pack (MOV) and Exclusive Pack (EP1) |
If the guild treats the escort quest as a failure, you will fail this mission. |
Well, isn’t that just great. Now I know something bad will happen. Why else would the system give me a mission?
For those that want to see the cards from the sets.
I don't suppose Return From the Different Dimension will let him go home... temporarily?
And an unrelated question - if he installs a Toon World card onto a book like he was thinking, could he just install the Toon Table of Contents onto the same book?
Probably yes. As in, unless the book used as a base can't take the power of two cards, I don't see why not. But at the same time, does it make a difference? Table of contents should just make a new toon card inside the book once per day, so it isn't that different from just throwing a toploader on it. I guess Brian would save a toploader.
For the return, possibly. It would return something from a different dimension, but would it return Brian home, or return something that has been banished from this world is the bigger question.
@nro_8 I suppose there wouldn't be a difference, besides an iota of convenience on Laura's behalf, for not having to auto use that every day for Brian. But if the book can handle the second card, why not, you know?
That being said, what, primarily, would determine how many installations a book could handle? Would the size / length of the book matter more, or the materials? Because I'm going to guess that a book made with paper from a magic plant, and bound in dragon leather would be just a bit more durable.
And speaking of the length of the book, what would happen if Brian tried to install a book card into a book that was far too long? Like, the card art shows a normal sized book, and it's on a concise subject, but he tries to install it onto a needlessly large several thousand page book? Would it just leave room for other installations?
@Dr.Smut Material is the big thing. Better materials, better results. And with better results, the installed card can bring out more of its power. And if the materials suck, the card and item both go bye-bye. Sadly, I haven't had a good opportunity to have the cards break something when installed, but I'd say it will happen at some point.
If the book is long enough to hold multiple books, sure it can be done. Like a real world book that has multiple books printed into one. (Like The Chronicles of Narnia that has 7 books.)
I would say the average spellbook (card) appears to be 600 - 800 pages thick. (just based on artwork.) And toon world is somewhere in the 300-400 range. Not that it really matters, but just to give an idea. Having a book 1500+ pages thick would get difficult to read, so multiple books is a good option.
I wonder if installing toon world into a dungeon would turn it into some kind of goofy cartoon dungeon full of inky nightmares
@UwUber At least a part of it, yes.
