Registration

 

I follow the directions and quickly make my way to the Golden Gate Pavilion. It's only a single building but I guess there aren't many safe places here.

 

I open the door and a small bell rings, nobody seems to react so I don't know if it broke my Stealth. I walk up to the counter and a lady with long blond hair and brown eyes that looks to be older than me is relaxing in her chair. I turn Stealth off.

 

"Excuse me."

 

She jumps to attention before seeing me and relaxing again. 

 

"Tch. What do you want? We ain't got nothing for you."

 

"I don't want anything... I wanna stay here."

 

"You can't afford it little girl. Go to the west end or the guild space." Wow, are they that expensive?

 

"Are you that expensive?.. I can't believe it… you cost over… a platinum coin… I'm sorry…" I head outside. I knew he said it would be expensive but I didn't think it would be worse than the sword. I guess it's the price of safety.

 

"W-wait… what did you say? Platinum?" I turn back.

 

"Nnn. How did you know how much money I had? Skill? Peek?"

 

"N-no. A-aahh. U-umm…"Oh god what did you do now Nora." A very pretty lady that looks just like 'Nora' but older comes down the stairs next to the counter. "I'm very sorry for the trouble she caused Miss. I'll take it from here, Nora, go do something useful." 

 

"Tch. I bet she's lying." Nora goes to leave but the lady hits the back of her head.

 

"Are you stupid? Look at her. Her clothes aren't the best but you can tell they are new, probably brought today. Her Sword is perfectly clean along with the expensive dagger on her waist. I'm assuming she had some trouble and had to buy everything new today. Not to mention the very expensive Magic Bag she has on her. Apologize. Now." She loudly whispers into Nora's ear and the more she says the more Nora's face goes pale and she starts looking scared. She gets on the ground after the talk.

 

"I'm very sorry for my rudeness Miss. Please don't blame my Mother or this Inn for my mistakes." Wait, this got so serious so fast. I don't know what to do.

 

"It's… ok?" Nora gets up and quickly shuffles away. 

 

"Now, I'm assuming you wanted to stay?"

 

"She said... I couldn't afford it though?"

 

"She didn't know how much money you had. She was being superficial. I apologize for her."

 

"Nnnn. How much then?"

 

"250 Ran a night, Not including food. Plus a 100 Ran deposit for the key." That's all?! She didn't think I could pay a few small silvers. I pull out the money and pay her.

 

"Name?" "Yui." "How long are you staying for?" "Don't know." "That's fine. As long as you pay at any point tomorrow you can keep your room." She writes it all down and hands me a metal key. "Yours is number 5 at the end of the hall on the left, Second floor. The doors are open all night so you are welcome to come back whenever."

 

"Thank you. Where is the Adventurers Guild?"

 

"Just keep following this road until you see the biggest building on the street. That's the guild." I thank her again, turn Stealth on and head out. 

Eventually I saw the building she told me about. She wasn't kidding. There are only a few two story buildings but this one is 4 stories high and it's wide as well. 

 

I open the door and it's very quiet inside. There are alot of tables around but only about a few of them have people in them and they are all talking quietly. I see a room in the middle with windows, they look like a weird version of the counter at all the shops. There are 5 of them but only one person, so I turn off Stealth and approach him. 

 

"Excuse me… I'd like to register."

 

"Ahhh yes. Follow me to the other booth please." He shuffles to another window while I follow. "Can you read and write? Okay fill out this form." After I nod he hands me a small form. Name. Age. Hometown. Job. Skills. Personal Experience. He sees me being shocked at the personal questions. "Don't worry. This form won't ever be leaked out of guild hands. Us guild staff take a Magical Oath that binds us to not leak anything outside. I can guarantee you your information won't be leaked outside." I guess I have no choice but to fill it out.

"W-well I can see why you were nervous about telling. You have a lot of Skills. The Guild does acknowledge Scouts but it would be best to call yourself a Warrior in front of other Adventurers. Now I need to check your Records." He places a Glass Ball in front of me, I don't get what he wants so I Analyze it.

Apparently when you do a criminal action or a meritorious deed that has been acknowledged by others it gets recorded in your 'Soul Records' and this Crystal, that is provided by a God, can read them. Apparently if you do enough good deeds that don't get seen it can also erase some of the smaller bad ones. I haven't done anything bad so I put my hand on it and channel magic power like Analyze told me too. It glows for a second then settles down.

 

"Wow. Nothing huh. This has to be the first time I have seen someone with a clean record. You must be a good girl 'or' locked up your entire life'." He whispered the last part to himself but I heard it. 

 

"Ok. You're good to go. I'll need 1000 Rans for the Guild Card." I tilt my head. "I'll explain while making it." I hand him the silver coin and he pulls a black slate out of a draw and places it in a machine. "This box is a Gift from God that makes the Guild Card. The Guild Card records your Name, Alias, Rank, Place of Registration and can even show you your own Status and Skills. It also records the Monsters you have killed, It does do Humans too but only the ones with Criminal Jobs. The others will be in your Records. You will be required to do a record check once every 6 months or before an important request. You can choose what to show or hide on your guild card but Name, Age and Place of Registration must be shown to be used as a form of Identification."

 

Ding. The box makes a noise. He goes and grabs the slate then hands it to me. It's about 5cmx10cmx5mm. I Analyze since I'm curious.

Wow. The worst Analyze ever. Nothing comes to my head either.

 

"Now would you like some water?" I'm being served? "Hahaha don't be so confused. We know the process can take a long time including the coming up rules. We would prefer to keep your attention."

"Ok well. You are now Rank G. It's more of an introductory Rank than anything. After you do 1 Request you'll go to F. The ranks go from G-A, After that is S Rank but they are all classified differently after that. You can raise your rank mainly by doing requests but you can also get raised based on the monster recorded on your guild card. You get paid for any monster on your guild card depending on the rates of the city you are currently in. We also will buy any monster materials or medicinal herbs you may have at the purchasing counter behind us. When you accept a request posted on the boards over there, you bring the paper or a tag of the paper to the requests counter and we will verify you. When you have finished a request that requires the client's consent just get them to insert magic into your guild card and we can tell what it means. You must act in a way that does not embarrass the guild while interacting with clients. Any criminal acts will be dealt with by the country and not the guild. Once you have committed a criminal act over a certain degree you will no longer be affiliated with the guild and your guild card will be canceled. Any guild cards found either lost or from dead or criminal cases should be returned to us for rewards depending on the rank of the card. Any questions?"

 

Wow. That's a lot. Ummmm. I don't know.

 

"It's ok. I told you it would take a while. If you ever do have any questions please ask at this counter or for anything else please use the reference room on the third floor. Ahh I forgot, the reference room has a lot of books on monsters, herbs and basically anything related to an Adventurer's work. I would recommend spending a little time there to research to get some knowledge."

 

"Thank you very much."

 

"Yes I look forward to working with you Yui."

 

I leave and take a breath. I can see some people peeking at me so I activate Stealth and take a proper look around the first floor. It is my new workplace now. There's tables all over the place in the front half of the building but behind the counter room in the middle is the purchasing counter he mentioned. On the right side is another counter that looks like a shop selling a lot of different things. On the left is another counter but it looks more like a bar and they are selling food. 

 

Alright. Time to check out the requests...
