Wake up, meditate, sleep. Most would not be able to live a simple life like this, but a man named Kuu carried out each day without complaint.

After all, he had a home. It did not have any windows and more extravagant furniture than a simple bed, but Kuu did not care.

He had a mostly intact roof, the cracks in it rather beneficial as he could convert the sun rays that peeked through them into energy that sustained him.

He even had a functional bathroom here, one with nourishing fresh water that provided him with all the nutrients he needed.

He did not need anything more than this.

clearwater gushing into the sink, Kuu cupped some of it and splashed it onto his face. Rubbing his tender skin, he froze momentarily and lowered his fingers, staring into the cracked mirror in front of him. And in those broken segments of glass, a rather handsome man appeared. As he blinked, the liquid that was caught in his feather eyelashes fell, making his inhumanly-white eyes gleam under the sparse light.

He… was indeed far from human.

Drying his face, Kuu walked out of the bathroom while braiding his navy hair. Without much enthusiasm, he dragged his feet across the dimly lit floor, dropping down into a lotus position when he made it to a round carpet under the crack of the roof that let down the most sunlight.

As he sat there for a few moments, his hair started to glow a pale white before the mechanism below him started churning. It sounded as if there was a disk below him, spinning ridiculously fast as it siphoned the excess energy that came off him.

He, as a moon plant humanoid, could absorb the energy of the sun and turn it not only into sustenance but also into internal power.

His mind emptied into a zen-like state, a familiar knocking brought him back to reality.

Uncrossing his legs, Kuu's hair dimmed back to navy. Soon at the base of the door, Kuu put his back against it as his eyes glued themselves to his fidgeting toes. “…I’m here, director.”

Kuu’s voice was low and scratchy, with a small awkward cadence.

“Haha, you made it earlier than me again today!” Laughed the man who was standing on the other side, “I won’t take up too much of your time, how are you doing?”

Kuu circulated a bit of energy through his arm while flexing his slender fingers, “All my levels are normal. There are no changes in my condition.”

“Good, good. Is there anything else that could be addressed?”

“No,” Kuu stated, his feather-like eyelashes brushing against his bangs, “I am fine.”

With that, the conversation finished. Kuu spun on his heel, quickly placing himself back into the lotus position as he focused on meditation once more.

Although he liked to have an extremely linear routine, Kuu always made sure to factor ‘visitors’ into his schedule. There were always a couple of them throughout the day, each coming to chat to him about this or that.

For example, the person he held a conversation with moments ago was the director of this laboratory— he was also his primary caretaker.

He was a very kind man, with the interest of both plant-humanoids and humanity at heart. Kuu was warmly enlisted by the director to come work here, the man taking years of his short lifespan to convince him to join him in an attempt to close the bridges between the two species.

He was a free man here, Even his door was constantly unlocked.

Kuu loved this place.

Or used to love it.

Because, Whenever the director came to visit, Kuu knew full well that there was absolutely no one across the metal.

Even the others' soft breathing was only an illusion, a thing he knew full well was just a coping mechanism stemming from his loneliness. And it was not only the director… he also heard nurses, janitors— even his annoying neighbor who called out to him through the thin walls. He heard thousands of voices, all of different volumes with the louder and more prominent ones being of the people he knew well.

In the beginning, when the voices were still more tame, he believed them to be real. But it just took a short venture outside the door to find out the terrible truth.

There were only corpses out there.

He was here alone.

After that, Kuu refused to ever go out of his room again. He was so traumatized by this incident that he even dared to start ignoring those voices of the dead. He shut his ears tight and crossed his legs, sitting on his meditation device as he tried to clear his mind.

His dismissal of their existence was only met with pain, however.

In his sleep, those voices screamed at him, begged him, and whispered to him. They wept, swore, and laughed. With each passing hour, they grew louder, more violent. They even blamed Kuu for their deaths— one of these verbal assaults coming from his precious director himself.

Such harsh words made Kuu face reality:

He… was insane.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

Kuu did not keep track of how many days he had spent in his room. Days were just too similar to one another, yesterdays bleeding into tomorrows so it was practically impossible to keep up with. It did not help that Kuu spent his waking hours in a trance-like state that made him seem like more of a zombie than a human, numbing himself of emotion by emptying his mind.

So when this trance was forcefully broken with a few simple words, it was as if his whole world had shattered.

“Hello?”

“I think I sensed someone.”

“Is someone there?”

Kuu choked on his breath— a thin layer of goosebumps formed on the surface of his skin as his entire being went into high alert.

This was a voice he had never heard before.

a hiccup in his perfectly repetitive days.

Kuu gulped… this could not be good.

“Hello? Can you answer me? I know you heard me, I can hear your heartbeat! It picked up a few paces when you heard my voice!” It said, happiness spilling out from its every syllable.

Kuu , in the face of such enthusiasm, only cringed. He bit his lips, trying to use the pain to make that voice disappear, tightly shutting his eyes as he did his best to block out any sort of thought.

“Excuse me! Please answer me if you can! You kno—“

With veins of effort flaring up on his forehead, he managed to force himself into a trance, his hair glowing a hot white with the effort it took to pull himself into such a state. This was an extremely temporary measure though, the moment his concentration were to slip—

Well— all he could hope for was for that small probability to occur and for that voice to disappear.

But even after hours passed, the voice remained.

“Ah, are you worried about how you are hearing me right now? I’ll explain later! But know that I mean no harm…”

It kept on rambling to itself as if talking to a wall, its enthusiasm curbed to Kuu's lukewarm attitude. Little did it know that that wall he was talking to was not even listening, rather, every single word he said only served to increase that walls spitting migraine/

Finally, sensing the almost exploding volcano below him, the voice finally slowed, “….hmmm? is something wrong? Your heart doesn’t sound healthy—”

Boom.

“—you…!!!! Shut the hell up!!!!” He snapped, his shrill words covered with the huskiness that came from his poor mood. “Can’t you tell you're unwelcome!!!!??”

“….” The voice was taken aback for a moment. It wasn’t expecting such hostility in response to its friendly chatter. “I’m… I’m sorry. I did not mean to upset you… umm... well I was just a bit excited…. “

“….”

“I thought… everyone was dead.”

Kuu snorted.

‘Because everyone is dead.’

The voice flinched at the noise Kuu made, but gritting its teeth it continued, “P-Please… can I just ask you to talk with me a little bit? Even if you don’t like it. I know it’s a bit selfish but… if I don’t talk to anyone, I feel like I will go insane…”

Kuu , who was about to shout at the voice again paused. Even the expression on his face that was morphed in pain and anger loosened.

Those words struck him deep into his being because those were the words of a a person afraid of being alone, a person afraid of their sanity slipping…

A being Just like him…

With such a thought, Kuu's sympathetic expression fizzled out like fire that met with a cold bucket of water. It not only froze over, but it descended a few notches into raw fury… some directed at the voice and some directed at his own naivety.

He forgot the cruel truth: he was a lunatic who couldn't trust his mind.

It was just like him because this was a facet of him. Subconscious thoughts morphed into an illusion of this pitiful voice with the same pains as him, almost as if to mock him. He dealt with these apparitions all the time, there was no way he would be fooled here. This one just was a bit more self-aware and animated, managing to fool him just for a moment.

hell would freeze over before Kuu entertained this delusion.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

But to his dismay, hell really did freeze over.

“Then, I saw the biggest rat of my life! It was bigger than my arm, you hear?! Gosh, I was so shocked I thought I would faint.”

“That… indeed is odd.”

Kuu secretly laughed to himself. A rat? He had never seen one in his life, what was his subconsciousness making up now?

“Haaaah, Nothing impresses you, does it?” sighed the voice, slightly saddened by the lackluster answer but still not discouraged, “anyway, that's not the bit that had me floored— I think it was when…”

Listening to the others' lively voice, Kuu leaned into his lotus position as he immersed himself in thought. The voice— who he recently found was named Sunny— managed to beg him enough to the point that Kuu conversed with him.

Sunny was just too damn persistent.

For weeks on end, he kept visiting him, gingerly calling out to Kuu whenever he spotted a gap in his routine. He talked about anything he could. About his day, about his life, his feelings, his memories…. All of it in such a livid manner that even Kuu could not ignore it. He just felt too alive, dynamic, and like an actual person to the point that Kuu could only give in to his pleas.

Their first exchange all started with Kuu's silly question.

“Sunny….” he called out the name he heard the voice calling itself from time to time, “what type of name is that?”

Out of all the things, he wanted to understand why his subconsciousness gave itself such a stupid name.

“Eh?” At the sudden remark, he could hear an almost choking voice from the other side, “d-did you just s-speak to me?”

“...”

“D-Don't keep silent like that! P-Please, tell me! Or am I going insane…”

“….” Kuu frowned, cupping his chin in his palm, “you're not.”

“!!!” Immediately, he heard the sound of sobbing in his head. “S-So you finally spoke to me… T-thank you… thank you so much… it-it means the world to me….”

“…..” Kuu's lips straightened into a thin line as his teeth lightly bit down on them.

Hearing Sunny weep, he was a bit lost on how to proceed. He had never encountered such a situation in his life, so obviously, the ability to comfort a person was not in his skillset. But even if he had the ability to be emotionally supportive, he could only remind himself that those sobs were only figments of his imagination.

Comforting a voice in his head would be a new low for him.

Waiting for what felt like years before Sunny calmed, Kuu was yet again met with the voice's lively voice that was countless times more joyful than usual.

“Say what you want but I think my name is great!” Laughed Sunny, “and what is yours then since mine is sooo bad? Be mentally prepared, because if yours is lame, I will never let it go!”

Ah.

Kuu was not expecting to be asked back.

“Don't you know it?” he blurted out.

“???” the voice was confused. “Why would I?”

“Uh… never mind.” Kuu became slightly embarrassed, scratching his neck, “umm… my name is… Kuu.”

There was a moment of silence before Sunny exploded into laughter.

“And you're laughing at my name! How is yours that much better than mine!”

“It is.” Kuu's expression darkened. “The director gave it to me. Since I am a moon plant-humanoid, it makes perfect sense.”

“Oh? then it makes sense for me too! I am the sun plant humanoid!”

“!!!” Kuu shot back up, “there is a sun plant!?”

“Yep! I’m a few floors below yours! We’ve never met because well… I was restrained as I didn’t get along well with those humans. But I'm shocked that you are surprised, I mean, how do you think we are having a conversation right now? I’m using an ability!”

”...” Kuu, the person with voices in his head, found it hard to explain himself. But with such a statement, Kuu's excitement died as he brought himself back to reality.

This was dangerous.

He was getting too invested in the illusion called Sunny.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

Waking up sometime in the late afternoon, Kuu lethargically dragged his body to the meditation spot. As soon as he sat down, a dissatisfied voice chimed in his head.

“You… you’re late.”

“Mmm.” Kuu nonchalantly nodded. “Tired.”

“Again?”

“Mmm”

“This is not normal.”

Kuu shrugged, promptly killing off the flow of the conversation.

Sunny was worried.

Kuu… once again slept in during his normal waking hours. Recently Kuu seemed more of a husk of himself than usual, sleeping longer and longer. But despite this downward development of his body, Kuu kept dismissing his concerns— It would not be too far-fetched to assume that Kuu was even actually pleased with this development.

Sunny didn't know what to do because it made sense for this to happen. Time and time again he heard Kuu talking to himself, he knew the others' mental state was not the best. Sunny knew what the others train of thought was regarding this: the more time he was unconscious, the fewer voices he would hear.

If Sunny wasn't here… would Kuu keep sleeping more and more until he was dormant forever?

Gulping, Sunny opened his mouth, “I’ve been thinking… you— I-I mean we should leave.”

“?” Kuu's lips yawned, “there is no reason to?”

“Don’t say that, there are many reasons why! Find new things, enrich your life, and meet people. Aren’t you curious? What life is outside the facilities?”

“I heard it’s all just dirt.” shrugged Kuu.

“No, there is so much out there! Like large bodies of water called lakes, and fields of sand called the desert… don’t these things evoke a sense of wonder from you?”

Kuu… he never saw the outside except for the small forest he grew up in and this lab.

As such, Kuu pouted, “a bit…”

“Hehe, I knew it, so let me tell you…”

….

As Sunny went into detail on his findings, Kuu's mind digested the information and promptly fell into shock…. The knowledge he was giving Kuu, he never heard before! How could Sunny, a reflection of his subconsciousness, tell him information that did not exist in his brain?

It should not be possible.

Could it be that his mind resorted to fabricating things out of nothing? But that was a bit far-fetched for Kuu to wrap his mind around, all previous voices he heard were always rooted in his memories. Unless… unlike what he has been telling himself— Sunny was not a creation of his demented mind.

Sunny was an actual person.

A person with his own personality, a person with ideals, dreams, likes and dislikes.

A man that could stand in front of him, next to him… a person he could see and touch.

Kuu tried to imagine it, though, he immediately thought such an idea was stupid as he did not even know what the man looked like. But, to his surprise, an image clearer than spring waters appeared in his mind.

The other's name was Sunny, so he should be blond and have a bright smile. His eyes should be like two bright spheres that let out joy to the world, curving whenever the man lets out a laugh. He would be a man full of positivity that would shine light on anyone who laid eyes on him. He would also have a nice figure, probably have chiseled abs… oh and have soft sun-dyed skin….

He imagined the other reaching out to him, stroking his cheek under the sunlight as his dimpled smile filled Kuu's vision.

Slap.

Kuu hit his cheeks as he furiously shook his head.

Flustered, Kuu keeled over as he wriggled, doing his best to hide his thick rouge cheeks with his hands.

“Kuu are you alright, your heartbeat picked up quite a bit!”

“Y-yes,” said Kuu with a cough, eyes slightly trembling, “n-nothings wrong!”

Kuu felt like dying as he resisted the urge to bang his head against the floor. What on earth was he thinking, h-he… h-he can’t be getting attracted to a voice his head made up, could he? Ah, his mind was slipping more and more by the day!

Confirming his status, Sunny continued as if reading his mind, “Want to see me?”

“!!!” Kuu almost fainted out of fright.

Sunny decided to ignore it as he continued his agenda, “if you leave, we can meet, you know!”

“Then, why can't you come to see me?”

For Kuu, this was the obvious solution.

“Err…” Sunny lost some of his momentum, “I… cannot come to the upper floors of the laboratory.”

This for some reason sounded like a lie.

But besides this little discrepancy, Kuu couldn't help but gaze at the door— one that lacked a lock so he could exit any time he wanted.

“…..”

“I said I’m satisfied here.”

“….” Sunny thought for a minute before he sighed.“T-That’s too bad… I recommend you leave but I can’t force you. But you should know, that I will be leaving soon,”

Kuu did not register Sunny's next few sentences.

Leaving?

Kuu's heartbeat picked up again, but this time for a completely different reason than before.

This time it was because of fear.

If he was left with those other voices again… if there was no Sunny…

Kuu trembled.

How terribly cold his world will be once again.

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

“I’m leaving— I’m not joking.”

Kuu, who heard this randomly first thing in the morning, snapped open his eyes. Then there was a sound of flesh twisting as the sleeping man's face contorted into anger, “What?”

“…” Sunny remained silent for a while before putting up a firmer stance. “You heard me.”

“You can't…” Snapped Kuu, “you can’t simply leave!”

“.....”

Sunny was too ingrained in Kuu's life.

Kuu did not even consider the thought of him leaving— afterall it was his voice. Sunny was manifested by him, he can't just disappear!

“Kuu… if you hate me leaving so much… just come with me. I'm begging you, this place is not good for you, you need to meet people, do things… not sit here everyday like a caged animal. And I… I won't last— no. I won't be able to stay here much longer.

“....” Kuu merely looked at the floor, his hands shaking with anger.

“Our lives are meant to be out there, not here in the darkness but under the sky—“

“Sunny…!” snarled Kuu, “I said I’m not leaving!”

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

There was a knock on the door, “I’m here, director.”

“Good, good. Then how are you doing today? Anything that needs to be addressed?”

“…” Kuu paused briefly, looking down onto his shifting toes. “I… I have a question actually.”

“Oh? Do not be shy, please tell me.”

Kuu bit his lips, “Is it… a good idea to leave?”

“….” There was a stifling silence as the director completely disappeared.

Kuu stood there almost forever until he understood that he was not going to get an answer from his dear ‘director’. Because his mind… still couldn’t decide if he should leave or not.

It was clear that this was something he had to come up with completely by himself.

Leave or not to leave— or more importantly, should he go with Sunny or not?

He always convinced himself that Sunny was not real, but as of late, he started trying to convince himself that he was. Sunny was a unique existence. He didn’t act like the other voices. He could talk, he did not repeat the same thing every day, he did not come at set times, and he talked about things that he didn’t know.

He joked and laughed. Roared and cried.

But there was still a voice within him screaming at him, saying not to let down his guard. He still hasn’t seen Sunny, and as long as he has not seen the other with his very own eyes, this nagging would refuse to dissipate.

If he went outside, he could prove Sunny's existence to himself. However if Sunny was not there— he would only be proving his own insanity once again. And if Sunny did not ‘exist’ for him anymore…

He does not think he would be able to handle it.

The best case for him was to remain in blissful ignorance, if Sunny was really an illusion he would stay by his side—

“Kuu.” Sunny’s voice suddenly rang out in his head, its tone soft and pleading, “Don’t stay here… follow me.”

“…..”

“Kuu, if you stay here… I don’t even want to think about what will happen to you. I hear you talking to yourself, you need to leave this place… this place is horrible for you. I don't want anything bad to happen to you… I don’t want to ‘lose’ you.”

Hearing of all this, Kuu opened and closed his mouth like a fish.

His mind could not decide if it should let his face blush or pale at those tender words. Lowering his eyelashes, he bit down on his lips as he grabbed onto the door handle.

Yes, he should go with Sunny.

But…

He couldn't get any strength into his hand.

He could not open it.

He was just too afraid.

“Don't be a coward!” shouted Sunny suddenly, “open the door!”

Kuu trembled, looking up, “Sunny… I can’t—“

“You can!”

“I-I—”

“Do it!”

Clang.

Finally, under the forceful voice, Kuu's hand pushed down, slamming the door open with all his power. His hair glowed white as he subconsciously channeled his energy into his body, crushing the door under his palm as it dislodged itself from its hinges. Standing ramrod still in the doorway, it was not long before his breath started to speed up, his entire body trembling as he began hyperventilating.

“See was that so—” Sunny, sensing his heart rate, came to an abrupt stop. “Kuu! Kuu, it's alright! Calm down! Close your eyes…. Just listen to my voice…”

Following Sunny’s instructions, the other tightly shut his eyes, calming down soon after.

“Sorry…” said Sunny, “are you alright now?”

Kuu nodded.

“Okay… follow my voice then.”

Sunny leading the way, Kuu quickly made his way down. He made his way down full well knowing that he was walking over the corpses of the laboratory employees, all of them tangled and ripped apart by roots and yellow flowered plants. With each corpse he passed, a face in his memory emerged in his mind. Each new step made him sicker. If not for Sunny’s calming voice talking him through it, he would have vomited bile long ago and ran to hide in his home again.

Thankfully, it did not take him long to find the exit.

“!!!” With a blinding light shooting through his eyelids, he knew he was outside the Laboratory. It was almost disorientating as all the foreign noises flooded his system. There was the rustling of trees, the calls of birds, the stream of wind passing by his ears… it was all so much that Kuu panicked and forgot to open his eyes.

It was only when a chuckle cut through all the alien noise did Kuu's eyes snap open.

A couple of meters away on a half-rotted park bench, the owner of the chuckle sat with his legs crossed. He was looking at Kuu with joyfully curled golden eyes, his hair peacefully blowing in the wind. Spotting that the other was gawking at him, Kuu gave him a wave as his smile widened tenfold, “I told you I’m real, didn’t I?”

Kuu didn’t wait a second before he broke into a run, stopping just shy of jumping into the other as he stood about 30 centimeters in front of Sunny. Being this close to the other, all of Kuu's newfound Confidence disappeared into thin air.

Yes, Sunny was right here but…

Kuu was afraid that if he touched him, he would disappear…

Before such dark thoughts consumed him, the man in front of him reached out his hand and wrapped it around Kuu's fingers. He lightly stroked the skin of his palm, bringing it to his chest to let the other feel his heartbeat as a soft smile adorned his face.

Kuu gasped, nearly not believing it himself.

Sunny really was alive.

“Ah!” Confirming this, Kuu pretty much dragged the other man into his chest, holding onto the other for dear life. He nearly crushed Sunny in his grasp, but Sunny did not say anything and let himself be held in such an awkward way. He felt the tremors in the others flesh way too well, how heartless would he be to disturb him now?

Letting out a helpless chuckle, Sunny gently stroked the crying man's back as he attempted to calm him down.

“It’s alright now…”

⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾⋆⁺₊⋆

Hands together, the two promptly started moving.

According to Sunny, just outside the forest, they would meet civilization.

While following Sunny, Kuu almost did not have time to blink as he greedily absorbed his surroundings. He looked up, down, left, right… he even was mesmerized by the fallen leaves below him for half an hour as he smiled from ear to ear. Of course, Sunny who was peeking back at such a Kuu could not help but smile brightly too, enjoying the others innocent expression.

The two chatted and walked, stopping only about a week later when they came face to face with a cliffside bearing a bridge. Sunny, who was leading their entire expedition, refused to go any further.

“You go first,” he said, “I’m… I’m a bit afraid of heights, I’ll follow in a bit…”

Kuu was not afraid to show his disapproval, “what on earth are you talking about? You are the one who told me not to be a coward and now you are acting like this?”

“...” Sunny took a step back, “this is not the same. Just go first.”

Kuu rolled his eyes. Snorting, power circulated through his body causing his hair to glow as he easily scooped up the man into a princess carry. He even laughed, finding this stubborn side of

Sunny funny, “no need to be a drama queen about it. This is not a problem. Just close your eyes as I did and I'll take you acro..s......s.....”

His words trailed off as he gazed down in horror.

Once he took a step closer to the cliffside, Sunny’s limbs dispersed into glowing pollen that was scattered by the wind. As if burned, Kuu pulled himself away from the cliffside, placing the man in his arms down against the nearest tree as he checked his condition.

While Kuu nearly started to hyperventilate again, Sunny did not give much of a reaction. He gave a brief look to his now regenerating limbs before using his intact hand to pat Kuu's cheek, ”please go across.”

Catching his breath, Kuu's brows raised, “What do you mean?! Instead of saying that, explain what just happened!?”

“Please...”

Kuu grabbed Sunny by the collar as his expression was somewhere between anger and worry, “Sunny!”

“….” but the man did not answer.

Seeing his silence, Kuu descended into thought. He thought of all of Sunny's actions so far and then something clicked. “Were you going to cut the bridge as soon as I crossed it? you… you are trying to get me away from here— without you. you never intended to come with me did you?”

“….” Sunny sighed as he avoided Kuu's intense gaze, “on the other side of this bridge… there are humans, and you like them don't you? I can hear them well. On this side however, other than me and you, there is not a soul. You don't belong here, and I… can’t go past this point. We are… too far from… my body.”

Kuu, horrified by what he was saying, looked at the man below him, “Then…”

“This body of mine?” Sunny smiled bitterly, flexing his fingers, “it's part of my abilities… the only reason I did not show up like this earlier was that… this is quite taxing…”

“….”

“Kuu, you need to leave from here. Despite how you act, I know you hate it here. And I won't be alive much longer. The least I could do was get you to a place where I know you would be better off—”

Kuu, without warning, stood up. He quickly started backtracking from the way they came, his objective clear… he was going back to the laboratory.

Sunny promptly followed, “Don't you dare! You think I told you that for you to return!”

Kuu ignored him as he walked even faster.

“Do you even want to be here with someone like me? You saw those corpses in the laboratory before, you saw how they died… you know perfectly well what that means. they were impaled by roots, my roots. I murdered everyone here. Think about it, am I not the reason you hear voices? That you are crumbling away right now?”

“...”

“I-I don’t even look like I look now! I lied! I fooled you!! You think I'm nice and everything, but you don't truly know me, Kuu. you don't know the things I've done in my life.”

“….”

Sunny’s voice became slightly shrill, “Have you gone fucking deaf?”

“….”

Kuu stopped, turning around. “Shut up Sunny!”

“!!!”

“You think I will leave you here by yourself, you asshole!? And about what you did, I don’t care! Do you not realize how important you are to me...” the corners of Kuu's eyes turned red, “did you think you could just lie to me like that and let me leave? Did you consider how I feel in this situation??”

“I did consider it.” said Sunny, “but it's too late. The best thing for you now is to move on and leave.”

”Still—”

At the other man's objection, Sunny's face turned cold as he spat out his next words without mercy, “go now. If you don't, I swear even if you're beside me, I will never talk to you again. Never.”

“Very well.”

Like so, in utter silence, Kuu made his way back to the laboratory. He walked again through the lifeless halls filled with corpses, making his way to the bottom floor with ease.

He found Sunny soon after.

Covered in sunlight that leaked from the roof was something closer to a dead man than a living one. Veins and roots sprouted from his body, making it seem as if he had exploded from the inside out. All but one of his arms was missing, with his organs hanging down to the floor while they squirmed and let out a faint glow. He had no jaw, his head flopping down as his golden eyes bore into Kuu, eyes that even from here he could tell were filled with anger, helplessness, and disapproval.

“….” There was a choking silence, a silence that was so alien to him that it made Kuu's stomach tangle into knots.

Kuu, knowing the other was mad at him, could only come closer as he gingerly held his only remaining hand. He sat down next to him, his hair glowing as he tried his best to transfer some energy into that husk of a body despite knowing it was probably a useless endeavor. But as he was supplying energy to an almost dead husk, his lips opened.

“You're so cruel, Sunny…”

Author's Note:

Hello all! Thank you for reading and i hope yall enjoyed it!

As an after credit, ill just briefly cover some context bits that weren't able to make it into the story due to the word limit. first of all, Kuu… his name means Moon in finish! Hence, the sunny is not very impressed by it!

Secondly, let's talk about sunny. The reason he was in the lab was not because he was enlisted like kuu. Rather, he was captured as he was a violent plant humanoid that lashed out on humans. They succeeded in trapping him underground and injuring him heavily but sunny managed to unleash an attack that killed most people there. Of course this exhausted and further injured him that he was dormant for quite a while. Of course, he eventually comes to and starts looking around with his abilities and spots that Kuu was still alive in there.
