What is this? When I was marching back, I saw something buried under the cut grass. It was a hole in the ground. It was big enough for me to go into, and deep enough for me to be unable to see the second end.

I decided to investigate and entered it. It was dark, but my spider senses were strong enough for me to see inside. I could see a tunnel leading somewhere, so I decided to go in and search it for any enemies. On my way I met something, and it was another mouse.

There wasn’t enough room for me to swing my thread, but the mouse had no room for attacks either. I went with headbutt at the confused mouse, and when it was momentarily stunned, I sunk my fangs in its neck.

[Obtained enough experience. Level risen to 9]

I extracted the mouse from the tunnel, and left it in my base, since it was close enough. Then I ventured back, to see if there is some more of my precious experience, and I wasn’t disappointed. I repeated this action 3 times until my level have risen.

[Obtained enough experience. Level risen to 10]
[Maximum experience reached. Evolution possible]

Okay, no more food needed, I can retreat from here. I returned to my base and secured my prize, now I only had to evolve. Show me the options please.

[Possible evolutions:]
[Weapon user albino Tarantula (Young)]
[Albino Tarantula (Young)]
[???]

Why is this third option still there? Shouldn’t it be earlier on the evolution tree? Why after I evolved, I can still choose this? I think the system really might be bugged. This time I don’t want to even try it, because if I got a bugged evolution, things might go bad.

Let’s appraise them.

[Weapon user albino Tarantula (Young)]
[Small version of albino Tarantula that adapted to the use of weapons. Its front limbs are displaced slightly to make use of items easier. It is said that a spider can evolve into this form if it has learned how to use at least one weapon. Since it is intelligent enough to use items its danger rank is higher than bigger spiders. Danger rank: D]

[Albino Tarantula (Young)]
[Adult version of albino Tarantula. The main strength of this spider lies in ability to command other tarantulas. It’s also big, has strong webs and poison. Its danger rank is decided by the amount of its followers. Although it can lead an army, it can’t create nests. Danger rank: E-C]

If the second one is an adult version, why does it still keep the young status? Another bug in the system? Or is it related to my age rather than form? I had no idea.

Again I didn’t care about the second evolution since I had no one to command, and I wouldn’t benefit from its abilities. I was really curious about the first evolution, did really a spider like that exist? From what I know, monsters don’t use weapons, and spiders just like them, rely on their racial abilities.

Is it possible that this is a new race? But if this was new, why would appraisal give such a detailed results? Who even writes these descriptions? Are they embed in the system, or are they written by humans?

I have to remember to ask about this, when I reach the top. Now I have to worry about the results of my actions, not about something that doesn’t concern me. Now give me the first option.

[Chosen evolution: [Weapon user albino Tarantula (Young)]. Proceeding… ]

This time it was a bit more painful, since it felt like my front legs were ripped off and then attached again, but this time a bit different. My skin thickened again, but internally there wasn’t almost any change. Maybe all evolutions are underwhelming? Overall I felt stronger, and my mass center was kind of different, but it was all.

[Gained skills as evolution bonus: [Thread mastery lvl. 3] [Thread techniques lvl. 2] ]

Now it was time to eat again, and my whole storage disappeared in a flash. Since I was a bit more hungry I decided to visit the tunnel again, and since my size didn’t increase I could easily enter it. This time however I didn’t meet a single mouse. I traveled deeper and deeper and finally reached a single room.

I heard multiple squeaks. They were weak and scared, they were children. A single mouse, a bit smaller than the ones I met, was guarding them. It was trembling in fear. It was fearing me, and yet it did not abandon the kids.

I didn’t hesitate even a second. I turned my back and left. I didn’t know there were children in here, I am not monstrous enough to slaughter them. In fact I felt bad after killing the mice in their nest. They were family and I killed them, even if they weren’t intelligent enough to care, it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

I wasn’t hungry anymore so I just returned to my house and went to sleep.
