Oddly this is the first time I've seen a male lead say they like both men and women in a novel I've read. For some reason my preference in genre and plot specifics doesn't lead to many homosexual or bisexual male leads. Even ones that gender bender to female. It's usually something like "I still like girls even if I'm a girl now!" that usually divulges into them being a lesbian, or their body changing their preference do to genetics or whatever. Seeing a male characters thoughts saying he liked men is refreshing for some reason...
I think this a societal thing weirdly enough. You really don't find many "bisexual" men. It verges on brainwashing. Men are raised with so much "treat women right", "man of the house" and worst of all... "if you were a real man" that you delude yourself into such a strong "I am a man, I must be a MAN" mindset you can't see outside it.
99% of the men who manage to see past that box they've built themselves into only do so because they are so bloody uncomfortable being confined to that box that they can't stay inside it... One of the biggest triggers for that, as it so happens, is feeling nothing for the women that all your friends say is insanely hot... Then popping a boner at the sight of another man.
... At least, that's my take on it.
@Magmaggeddon I appreciate this comment, it speaks to another thing like how so many novels have protags that are deemed as yuri even if they were males previously, logically I don't think them changing s*x would change their orientation. So the thing about that is it makes sense in that they would still like girls and from a societal standpoint of how people accept or feel about things it tallies. It's why I like novels like Silver Coin and others the sexual orientation and gender follow a logical progression and fit the character and aren't altered to suit the narrative.
