My Detective Story Is Dull As I Expected!

It was Kogoro Mouri's second day as a transmigrated person, and he was definitely loving this version of his life more and more. If not for the fact that he was still dirt poor, he would be content.

Kogoro's short venture into the world of literature was nothing to brag about. He posted a thousand words of prologue, and the view count of the story was so low, the prologue had more words than views. The first official chapter he planned to upload today could change that, of course; but he didn't even have a draft yet!

'Man, I don't know how those web novel authors who could update everyday do it!' Kogoro lamented in his heart. If only he was as cultured as that comrade Zhang!

Meanwhile, Kogoro already finished all the requests he received from his clients. Even though his last investigation went smashing, his past record was so bad that one home run did nothing to his image as a detective. It would take a few more successful cases to make his name spread across Japan.

'Oh right, I forgot about Conan! When will that smelly kid shrink, again? If I take that kid in, I won't have to twiddle my thumbs waiting for cases!'

In truth, Kogoro was very reluctant to let that snotty detective in his house. It's not even that he didn't like the brat, but that his daughter did, and it was driving him nuts!

Kogoro was an avid follower of the series, but seeing it on tv and being inside it were two different concepts. He needed to take into account his influence on the timeline. Just him dating Hinata was enough to change several episodes of the show, so you could imagine what would happen if Kogoro didn't take Conan in.

"Ugh… I am trying to save it for later, but whatever… Baa-chan, use the random gift draw chance now! It will be dandy if I receive something that can help me increase my income."

[Ding!]

[You use the Random Gift Draw (1x)!]

[Congratulations for obtaining: Lucky Incense (1x)]

His eyes lit up, Kogoro muttered,

'This is it!'

***

[Lucky Incense (1x): When used, would double the luck of the user for 5 minutes.]

Reading the description of the new item, Kogoro knew he should've read it before using the damn thing; because it's 5 minutes already, and not a single thing happened!

Was it defective? Or did the System lie to him? He didn't know what's going on, and it irked him more than he let on.

Just when Kogoro was about to file a complaint to the Grandma that swindled him with this cheap knock-off, someone rang the doorbell at his office! He hurriedly galloped to answer the door, when he heard the voice he faintly remembered from the show.

Brows furrowed, Kogoro grabbed the handle of the door.

'If it's who I thought it was, then I'm afraid a lot of things would be massively different compared to the anime or manga!

He opened the door, and sure enough, an out of this world beauty who dressed like an Idol stood in front of him. By her side, a slender woman with the manner of a manager was carrying too many bags, which Kogoro knew were likely all owned by the other woman. She bowed slightly, before asking,

"Excuse me, but are you Detective Mouri?"

Even though he was happy that they appeared to be here for a case, Kogoro couldn't stop the mixed feelings he had after confirming the woman's face.

"Yes, is there something that I can help you with?"

The manager-looking lady sighed in relief, and then smiled at Kogoro. She introduced herself, before she pointed to the young woman slightly sulking beside her.

"My name is Rukia Kazumoto, and I'm the manager of Yuko Ikezawa-san beside me. We are here because Mrs. Hanaoka recommended your name."

That's right. In front of him stood Yuko Ikezawa, the bitter rival of his old-self's beloved Idol, Yoko Okino!

***

"Please have a seat first, Kazumoto-san, Ikezawa-san! I'll be back shortly with some drinks. Do you have any preference?"

The manager responded with a worried expression.

"No need to trouble yourself, Mouri-san, We just came back from a dinner party!"

"Haha, it's not a problem at all Kazumoto-san, it would be rude of me if I don't serve drinks to my guests!"

Kogoro then went to the pantry, before he came back with three glasses of orange juice. He put the glasses down from the tray, then sat across the pair of beautiful women.

"I assume you need me to solve a case? Can I hear the details?"

Hearing his question, Miss Ikezawa started frowning, and her manager smiled bitterly.

"It's like this, Mouri-san. For the last two years, things have been difficult for Yuko-san. The offer we received was getting fewer and fewer, and a lot of the ones that we did get and accepted were suddenly rescinded by the other side without a clear explanation. We have our suspicions, but we don't know what we can do to solve the problem, so we hope Mouri-san can guide us to a solution!"

Miss Kazumoto then detailed the descent of her artist's career. Of course, Kogoro actually already knew the general public version, but listening to the manager's explanation on how things turned out the way they were now really opened his eyes to the minefield that was the entertainment industry.

Yuko Ikezawa didn't say a word during the entire meeting. She glanced at Kogoro once in a while whenever she thought he wasn't looking, and then sipped her drink when he turned his gaze to her. And truly, it was impossible not to look at her when she was this close. While her manager was charming in her own right, Yuko Ikezawa's beauty was on a completely different level! The way her leopard-print clothes hugged her curve was too stimulating, he had to force himself to focus his attention on her manager instead.

After Miss Kazumoto finished speaking, Kogoro got a pretty clear picture of the possible culprit that hindered Yuko Ikezawa.

'Let's see if I can get it right this time!'
