I’d read many stories of people reincarnating in other worlds after death. While I’d never believed them to be anything other than fanciful tales that could never be, it was an entertaining genre for me to read. Lots of stories were clearly author wish fulfilment, while others focused on comedy, or pointing out issues in other works. So while I was surprised to meet a god after dying in a car accident (damn driver ran a red light!), I wasn’t so surprised by the question:

“What do you wish for in your next life?” (god?)

“I want to be a god!” (me)

“Excellent! I can finally retire! Here’s the introduction book, and guide on what to do. Make sure to read it all properly, before you get started.” (ex-god?)

“What?” (me) I just stared dumbfoundedly at the massive pile of paper he just called an introduction book. This “book” is as thick as I am tall. I have to read this? I didn’t want more desk work!

---

I was barely done with the first page, when another pile of paper showed up, inside an in-box, on top of a desk, along with an empty out-box a chair, and a pen. I made the wrong wish.
