After I confirmed that the strange talent was my fault, I started thinking. I then hesitated for a moment before attempting something.

"Grith? Are you there?" - I tried to call out in my mind.

However, it was soon apparent that he couldn't reply.

"Well, it was worth trying." - I shrugged.

Knock* knock* knock*

"Sir Mog, I brought you some water. May I come in?" - Borug's voice sounded from behind the door.

"Yes, come in! Thank you!" - I replied, discarding my thoughts.

At my words, Borug opened the door and entered with a clay jar and cup in hand. He then placed them on the table and turned to me.

"Here you go, sir. If there is anything else you need, feel free to call me." - Borug said and bowed servilely. However, I didn't miss that hint of disdain and cunning in his eyes.

If it had been before I opened my status, I would have been too depressed to notice this minor detail. If I didn't hear the mistress's words, I would not suspect him. I'm sure he's thinking about how he can take advantage of the fact that I'm now disabled. I have seen such things happen in the slums before.

Nevertheless, I didn't care what this lowly servant thought privately. He is just a tiny figure in this mansion embroiled in power struggles. He will get burned sooner or later, like a moth to the flame.

"Alright, thank you, Borug. I will call you if I need something." - I dismissed him.

After Borug left the room, I shakily stood up and poured myself some water(after spilling half of it on the table.).

While drinking, I checked the "Assimilate talent seed" effect.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Assimilation: Assimilate talent seed
Description: Assimilates a devoured talent seed, making it your own. As devoured talent seeds are devoid of energy, it requires nurturing. The stronger the "Lord of Adaptation" is, the faster the process becomes. The stronger and rarer the talent absorbed, the slower the process becomes.]

"I...see. So, stealing others' talents? No, not stealing. It's more like robbing. Anyways, now I know that I need to nurture my talents back."

I then went back and tried to check other things.

Although I tried to check the "Assimilate bloodline" and the such, It didn't allow me. It seems like locked abilities can't be viewed.

Since I couldn't read anything anymore, I decided to check the "Devour" ability since it is related to the Assimilation ability.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Devour
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation was an infamous glutton at birth, even for an eldritch space monstrosity whose true size was that of a red supergiant star in his peak. Anything he ate was left without a morsel, leaving a trail of stardust and death in his wake. He devoured so much, that it became his eventual undoing when he was besieged by countless enraged gods and even other powerful eldritch beings eons ago. This ability also allowed him to develop his hallmark ability, Assimilation. Now, for good or bad, this ability is yours.
Effects: Digestion, Sorting, Storage]

As I looked at it, I was surprisingly calm, considering I just read something so utterly ridiculous and blasphemous that I would likely be condemned and purged as a blight upon the land if someone were to learn I had this abomination of a skill. It was likely because I started turning numb to all of this. At least I was calm enough to casually comment on it.

"... Hah... Although I have no idea what a Red Supergiant Star is, I guess that's... big? Also, he ate so many things that he got besieged by countless gods?! Just how big of a fatass glutton was this guy?! Wait, I ate him, so what does it make me?!"

After blankly staring at it for a minute, I snapped out of it and started looking over the abilities.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Devour: Digestion
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation's stomach was so powerful that he could digest anything and everything that he devoured, turning them into things or energy that he could use. The speed of digestion and the items that could be digested depends on the strength of Lord Of Adaptation. The stronger and more complex an item is, the harder it is to digest.]

"... Does that mean I can eat rocks? Yeah, I don't wanna try that unless I don't have a choice. Anyways, I guess that this is what drained my talent, then?" - I guessed.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Devour: Sorting
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation can sort the things that he devours, allowing him to separate, extract, and store things that he wants to use and not turn into basic energy. You can only extract things that can be digested.]

"Well, that's... Useful? Is this how he extracts talent seeds?" - I thought as I checked the third skill.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Devour: Storage
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation can store all things that he digests into multiple isolated pocket dimensions only accessible to him. When he died, because he absorbed too much energy, he caused an explosion equivalent to the birth of a thousand universes, killing almost all of his aggressors with him, and inadvertently creating a gigantic mega universe containing a higher world the size of an entire small universe at its center. The type and amount of things you can store depend on the strength of Lord Of Adaptation.]

I selectively ignored that ridiculous tidbit of lore about Grith as I read.

"Ok... If this is the case, why didn't I store what I ate previously? You know what? Forget it. I will worry about this later. I'm getting a headache from reading all of this bogus. I should take a small break."

I decisively dismissed the information from my eyes and rubbed my temples, trying to soothe my aching head. After five minutes, my head felt better, so I decided to continue reading.

"Now, then. I'll start reading things in order from here on out." - I decided and started reading.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Full Self Status Reading
Description: Originally, it was an ability developed by the Lord Of Adaptation back when he was just born and the size of a small moon to view what he digested and assimilated, but later was used to pass time and stroke the one thing that was bigger than his size, his overinflated ego. You can view the status of self and everything that you digested and assimilated. Details can be adjusted at will.]

"Finally! Something useful AND convenient. At least there is no room for confusion here. Shame I can't read others' status, though."

[Lord Of Adaptation: Self Obscuration
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation, due to his gluttonous nature, created an unbelievable amount of enemies, even making other primal chaos lords want to kill him. Because of that, he developed the inherent ability of the eldritch race of unfathomability and took it to a whole new level, obscuring him from all augury and divination in an attempt to prevent them from surrounding and killing him. In the end, he only died because of his arrogance. You now can manipulate what others perceive your status to be, and obscure and even block all attempts of augury at will. It has some effect on soul-binding oaths. Currently, Lord Aiuc'thougrith is actively manipulating this ability to prevent you from dying an untimely death.]

"Hm... Isn't this good for tricking the guards into believing your someone else when they appraise you? Also, it affects oaths? Is that a good thing? Well, that aside, Grith is manipulating this skill? Why would I die if he didn't?"

I started thinking about it, and the more I thought, the paler I became, "Yeah. If I learned about Me, and If I were to be a god, I would kill Me too. Thank you, Grith, your not such a bad guy after all."

Shaking my head from these morbid thoughts, I continued checking the abilities.

[Lord Of Adaptation: Chaos Affinity
Description: As a Primal Chaos Lord, The Lord Of Adaptation has a natural affinity towards Chaos. This Affinity now belongs to you. The stronger Lord Of Adaptation is, the stronger the affinity becomes.]

"Useless, next."

[Lord Of Adaptation: Eldritch Affinity
Description: As a Primal Chaos Lord, an eldritch being second only to the Origin Of Chaos itself, The Lord Of Adaptation naturally possessed an affinity with other eldritch beings. However, as he ate others' prey, and even other eldritch, he was naturally a being they all hated, feared, and loathed. Now, this affinity belongs to you, and hopefully, you won't repeat his mistakes. The stronger Lord Of Adaptation is, the stronger the affinity becomes.]

"Does it look like I am going to interact with other eldritch beings?! Also, Grith, GET A FUCKING GRIP OF YOURSELF! NEXT!"

[Lord Of Adaptation: All language affinity
Description: The Lord Of Adaptation had a special hobby. Whenever he came upon a Life planet, instead of instantly devouring it like he usually does, he instead assimilated some of the local lifeforms and enlightened races and started communicating with them and even mating with them, even producing a few generations of descendants. That is until he grew bored and ate them all. In any case, he has mastered an incredible amount of languages, and by doing so, he developed a natural affinity towards languages. Now, this affinity is yours. The stronger Lord Of Adaptation is, the stronger the affinity becomes.]

"Wait... He ate his own children?! Just for the heck of it?! What a cruel piece of garbage! Ugh... I'm now regretting assimilating this guy into me even more. Anyways, this is useful if I ever decide to leave the Lamarian empire."

[Lord Of Adaptation: Predatory Instincts
Description: All eldritch beings possess predatory instincts, to hunt the weak to survive. The Lord Of Adaptation's predatory instincts, however, were born abnormal, even for an eldritch. The Lord Of Adaptation's instincts did not possess combat instincts and hunting prowess and instead focused on two things. Distinguishing prey and Distinguishing danger. Through his sixth sense alone, he could tell the beneficial properties of eating potential prey, and he could also recognize potential threats to his life. Now, this ability is yours. The stronger Lord Of Adaptation is, the stronger the instincts become.]

"Is this guy wired to eat the weak and fear the strong?! Will I become a Useless + Horrible + Coward + Glutton + Bully too because of him?!"

[Lord Of Adaptation: Transformation
Description: All eldritch beings are born as undefined monstrosities that constantly mutate. However, some of the stronger eldritch possess the ability to perfectly transform themselves into defined and stable shapes. The Lord Of Adaptation, a being with countless faces and identities, a known pansexual, and a being able to shrink and expand almost without restrictions, could be said to be unparalleled in this regard. Now, you possess this ability. The stronger Lord Of Adaptation is, the faster and more controlled the transformations become.
Effects: Change color, Transform Aura(Locked), Transform Flesh(Locked), Transform Skeletal structure(Locked), Transform bloodline(Locked), Transform gender(Locked), Transform Race(Locked), Transform soul(Locked), Transform size(Locked)]

As I saw this, my eyes lit up!

"Wow, now THIS looks awesome! If a thief had this, and he was careful enough, he could avoid being caught for his entire life! I don't want to change my gender, though. I am perfectly happy being a male, thank you. Hmm... Ok, I see that I can only use Change color, so I will check this first."

[Lord Of Adaptation: Transformation: Change color
Description: The ability to change the pigment of your body parts at will.]

"So, I can change my skin color? Let's try! Let's go blue!"

I raised my hand in front of my eyes, and I tried thinking about changing its color to blue. And then, without a sound, my hand slowly turned blue! It took only ten seconds for my hand to turn completely blue!

"Awesome! I can change colors! Now, turn back..."

And my arm turned back to being greyish-green.

"So awesome! Wow, I wish I could show this to people, but then they would think that I am a monster. Oh, well. At least I have this ability."

After checking the entire talent, I got tired and decided to take a nap until lunch, so I got up from the chair and lay on my bed, and fell asleep like a log.
