A Pokémon Potential determines just how high of a 'rank' it can reach, as certain potentials only allow it to reach a maximum level. Once reached there is very few things a trainer can do to increase the Pokémon's potential. With very expensive and rare items, trainers can increase their Pokémon's potential. Along with evolving a Pokémon, the possibility of it reaching another potential.
Potentials also determine the Pokémon's stats quality as well. The lower the potential the less stats improve with each level. Stats can be increased in Rank through a combination of training and items but are still limited by the Pokémon's potential. Overall, a Pokémon's potential determines if the Pokémon is even worth training or keeping in most people's eyes. As bad potential Pokémon are released, or in most cases, frequently used for food and other purposes.
Stat Ranks: (meaning the defense, attack, special attack, special defense, etc.)
F Rank - worst stats.
E Rank - below average stats.
D Rank - average stats.
C Rank - above average stats.
B Rank - good stats.
A Rank - very good stats.
AA Rank - great stats.
S Rank - amazing stats.
SS Rank - God level stats.
Potentials:
White - worst potential and usually food for other Pokémon or people. Can't level past 10 and Stats can't go beyond F Rank.
Yellow - most common potential. Plus, mostly found in common Pokémon like Rattata, Pidgey, and other very common bird and rodent Pokémon. Can't level past 30 Stats can't go beyond D Rank.
Orange - uncommon potential. Can't level past 40 Stats can't go beyond C Rank.
Red - very uncommon potential. Can't level past 50 Stats can't go beyond B Rank.
Green - rare potential. Can't level past 65 Stats can't go beyond A Rank.
Blue - very rare potential. Can't level past 80 Stats can't go beyond AA Rank.
Purple - almost never seen potential. Can't level past 95 Stats can't go beyond S Rank.
Black - one in a billion-chance potential. Can reach God Rank Stats can't go beyond SS Rank.
Honestly hate stats and potential in pokemon. They're not what made the series so huge, it was the adventure and seeing yourself as the Mc. It's kind of hard to do that when you start introducing stats and potentials, just makes all the pokemon so much of an expendable object. If the pokemon have hard talent limit so should the people.
It's just making it more realistic. Like athletes or people wanting to be athletes while training can make a big difference if you don't have the genes for it you can't go far. Talent has always determined upper limits in everything and hard work determines the lower limit
@Dagger7246 You can make a good pokemon fanfic without giving a single F about stats. I Will Touch the Skies is a good example. Just like what the previous dude said, it's never the center of what made pokemon good. It's the journey and growth. And if you really want to, a level 1 rattata with focus sash can solo a team of 6 legendaries with enough set up. It's kinda funny actually
@PlatDragon didn't say you can't make a good one I just said it makes it more realistic
Stats. tsk might as well go play the game then read about numbers
Terrible choice to add stats and potential systems to a series where its fun to watch the creatures go beyond what their estimated capabilities are. I'll read a few more chapters before dropping. Bye.
I have a feeling you could merge these two systems, like instead saying a Rattata starts at E rank and maxes out around B rank
Yeah that seems like it would simplify it a lot, it also would mean that you could give different stats different max potential ranks.
Can a god level stat ratata beat the worst stat rayquaza?
I used to play some rack rooms and the stat system is common if you got an s tier attack on a physical pokemon you're gonna burst your opponents
I could see the stat system but the potential system🤢🤢.
