XH 258 - Da Bei, can we trade rooms?
"Okay, this looks exactly… erm, better than I imagine, but how do we get the demon in? The coffin interior is quite deep and she needs to fall in to get stabbed. She will immediately sense something wrong before she gets the chance to be stabbed."
"Throw her in?" The system suggested.
"Who, you?" Xiao Hua has no plans to approach Fu Chou, much less touching her.
"I don't have hands to throw her in!" The Rubik cube manages to sound regretful with its robotic voice.
Xiao Hua tightened her grip on her whip. "I can try to throw her in using my whip... Da Bei? What are you-"
Numerous sharp icicles were floating midair, right before the portal that Fu Chou was coming through. To be able to squeeze the icicles between the portals, they had to be made in short length, but they still looked sharp and deadly.
Da Bei was a snow wolf, which she had known to be able to use snow as their weapon, but she had never seen Da Bei using this type of ice attack before.
In a daze, Xiao Hua praised in a dreamy manner. "Da Bei, you truly are a miracle worker."
Da Bei had grown stronger too, even more than her. Yu Zheng had been kind to give Da Bei some pointers during his training.
Fu Chou will be walking straight into the iceles if she continues crossing. At the right moment, Da Bei will make sure she will be injured by the trap before she could retreat.
"...Why did he have so much of your tea?" The Rubik Cube asked dubiously when Da Bei pulled out a familiar bamboo tube bottle and poured the content over the icicles, enough for every of them.
It was Xiao Hua's tea that she had brewed for him today.
The system quickly slowed down even further of Fu Chou's portal speed so that Da Bei could finish laying down the trap in time.
After that, Da Bei used his spiritual energy to wrap around the icicles to stop the liquid from disappearing, just like the way Xiao Hua had done before with her whip.
"...I thought he had finished drinking it." It was nearly dinner time after all. "But good job, Da Bei!" Xiao Hua cheered. Perhaps Fu Chou would fear her tea as well?
"Ready? I will resume the original speed!"
"Okay! Return to normal speed!" Xiao Hua answered when Da Bei turned to look at the Rubik cube that was invisible to his eyes.
The speed that Fu Chou took to cross over the portal was back to normal. However, it still looked slow in Xiao Hua's eyes, as her heart sped up in fear and anticipation and her blood pumping fast. Her body unconsciously bent forward with her unblinking eyes that was afraid to miss out even a second when the demon finally walked right into the trap.
At the same moment, Fu Chou suddenly sensed danger, her instinct telling her to stop moving. It was telling her that there was something dangerous at the other side of the portal.
The injury made by Xiao Hua's whip was already healed, but Fu Chou suddenly felt pain coming from it. She touched her chest, but there was no sign of injury, just phantom pain.
Coupled with the fact she had been trying to reach out to the girl's location but failed several times, Fu Chou obeyed her instinct and retreated. The portal closed right after she retrieved her hand back.
Could it be that girl was already dead?
That could be one of the explanations why the array that was working as it should could not locate Xiao Hua and always sent her back to where she started.
And the danger she sensed from the other side of the portal could be a higher being that roamed at the other realm of this world. She has no intention to find out if the higher being would be helpful to her plans or not.
Fu Chou could not just confirm Bai Hua's death just from the failure to locate her. But she had to give up on the idea of killing her for now. Even without killing her, Liu Chu Chu's resentment will weaken as time passes, wearing it down and by then, Fu Chou will be strong enough to completely absorb her soul along with the remaining of her resentment.
She just had to be patient. After being trapped in the jade bracelet for sixty years, she can afford to wait a bit longer before reuniting with her precious daughter.
Meanwhile, she will use this time to find the gate and start unsealing it.
This rotten world should have disappeared long ago.
When they saw the hand quickly went back into the portal, Xiao Hua sighed in disappointment, even though she was relieved they were able to scare Fu Chou away.
Not letting the trap go to waste, Da Bei controlled the iceles to shoot straight towards the portal, only to find restrictions.
Ting! Ting! Ting! Crack! Crack!
As if they met a solid wall, some icicles were reflected back and fell to the ground, while some got directly crushed into dust from the high speed. Da Bei was still inexperienced in controlling them all at the same time, hence they moved at different speeds.
"It's one way portal!" The Rubik Cube said in realization. Only the demon could toss things in from her end, but the other side of the portal could not enter!
The trio waited silently, eyes darting around the room to see if any more portals would appear. After a long while without any portal appearing, they knew that they had successfully terrified Fu Chou and she finally stopped trying to intrude their base.
"Oh my God." Xiao Hua dropped to the ground like a puppet whose strings were cut. "I could feel ten years of my life had slipped away just from that crazy demon's antics."
Turning back into his wolf form, Da Bei walked to Xiao Hua's side and rubbed his furry head at her slightly pale cheeks. Groaning, Xiao Hua draped herself on Da Bei, sticking her sweaty body onto his chilly fur.
It was cold sweat from fear.
She will need to bath again, but not now. Darn it, that demon gave her a trauma!
"Da Bei, can we trade rooms?" Xiao Hua suddenly asked a strange question and rubbed her sore legs from the tension. "I don't dare to stay here anymore."
Today's exciting event will likely give her nightmares for days to come. That beautiful, slender, pale hand used to be an enviable sight, but now it only invoked fear from her!
"Huh, he hardly sleeps in his room anyway! What's the difference?" The Rubik Cube said.
Da Bei was always in his wolf form and guarded Xiao Hua's sleep on her bedroom floor… like a real dog.
Rubik Cube: Even a real dog gets to sleep on the bed with its owner!
The guards watched as Doctor Bai replaced Yang Ling's previous post and waited beside the main gate of the Yang residence. They wondered who the great doctor was waiting for and did not dare to interrupt him.
Anyone that Doctor Bai waited for would not be an average person.
When Yu Zheng finally returned in a carriage alone, since Advisor Yang needed to work, Doctor Bai signalled to follow him.
They stopped at a secluded area in a corner and Doctor Bai impatiently started what he needed to say. "The system sent me a message right after you had left for the palace, requesting for help. A portal appeared in our home and the demon is trying to enter. You need to quickly go back."
Yu Zheng understood why his lover could not go back and could only count on him to protect their daughter.
Bai Chuan was needed here to help out Jing Ke's recovery. He also wanted to figure out what happened between him and the demon by using Yang Ling's gossiping mouth to ask while he would listen at the sidelines. Bai Chuan's actions were limited in order to keep in line with his character's actions.
"I will leave now."
"Tell me if it's bad." Bai Chuan will immediately rush back, disregarding any OOC punishment he would receive.
At his lover's concern, Yu Zheng flicked his nose teasingly. "Are you not confident in my strength?"
Bai Chuan snorted. "Just don't go overboard and harm Xiao Hua too."
"That's our daughter, how can I do that?"
I am still convinced that Le Xiao Ting is Bai Chaun's original daughter
